I can't speak as to why people pick one over the other. I got the Panda because I have a black dial Rolex Submariner 41mm and I wanted something that looks a little different so the white face it was. I will never have 2 watches that look the same.I like that it looks a bit more like the classic Paul Newman Daytona too. Choice is good.

The white dial has always appeared more feminine. The preference looks to have shifted to the black dial.

Black dial better. Easier to read day or night. The lume offers natural color contrast to black dial.

I owned the black and now own the white. The white is much sportier and feels special. The black reading time is very difficult, the white reads better. The black feels like just another Watch. It really is more luxury then it is sport. The white just hits differently and is the ideal way to go if you have to choose. If I could I would have both but I’m glad I sold my black one and got the white. Much happier

I like them both but I personally prefer the Ceramic one just because the pre-ceramic bezel always got super scratched. That bezel can't be polished too much because you would polish off the numbers also. The Ceramic bezel is much more durable.

I call the 116520 black dial. Luke Skywalker or Jedi master Luke (RoTJ) because it has green indexes (light saber), black dial (black suit), steal bezel (right metal hand)

The only thing I'd add, is that the monolithic black dial, in person, can LOOK a little bigger than the whtie dial, and considering it's a smaller watch, some may perfer that.

I m a girl. I like both but I go for the black one as the first choice. Found it more fashionable. The white one is more classic in my opinion. If I will buy the second Rolex I will then go for the white. Haven’t seen a girl wearing it, but anyway I have ordered one for myself. Can’t wait anymore! 😍

Based on your rationale a white Submariner and a GMT would be more popular. Black is for me; I do not like white dials but the latter can be more legible and is irritating in tropical sunlight. The white dial loses its luminosity quicker overnight: black harnesses the power of the lume longer..

I don't think it's that complicated. Both are gorgeous, but the white dial looks sportier, more fun, pops up more. The black dial is dressier, sharper. It depends on the types of clothes you use and your skin color/size of your wrist.

The black dial is nicer and is much easier to read than the white dial, but the black ceramic bezel looks out of place on a black dial, and makes the Daytona look like one big black watch. Would much prefer the Daytona with the previous steel with black dial. No reason to use ceramic on a fixed bezel.

the problem with the non-ceramic bezel is how scratched it would get. And because the numbers are etched and painted into the old steel bezel it was hard to polish scratches because you would polish off the numbers as well. If you had a deep scratch you would basically either have to live with the scratches OR just buy a new bezel.

Sometimes a slightly scratched (or faded) bezel may be desirable (as in the case of the pre-ceramic GMT Master or Sub). But ultimately, the SS bezel can also be changed if necessary That being said, the Daytona ceramic bezel has it's good points, but it is not entirely indestructible. It may be scratch-proof, but a sharp side impact could crack it too. It would be nice, however for Rolex to offer the Daytona ceramic bezel in 2 different colors, to better match the 2 color options for the dial. Say, black ceramic bezel with white dial, and perhaps silver/gray ceramic bezel with the black dial.
