Thanks for making this video, best comparison I've seen of the old and new subs. I have a 114060 and I had the chance to try a 124060 last weekend. I agree with almost everything you mentioned in your video. Overall, the changes are VERY subtle. I like the slimmer lugs but I'm not a fan of the wider bracelet and larger clasp on my 6.5" wrist. Also, shout out to DavidSW. I traded in a watch with them last month and it was a seamless process. I'd happily work with them again.
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! So you decided to keep the 114060 then?
@mpikers3 жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish Yup, sticking with the 114060 for now. I like the new one and I probably would have picked it up if I didn't already have a sub but there just wasn't enough there for me to "upgrade". The 114060 is almost 3 years old and it still keeps nearly perfect time (+2 secs over a two week period). For me, the only changes I care about are 70hr power reserve (which actually isn't that big of a deal because I usually rotate through my watches) and the slimmer lugs. But I REALLY didn't care for the larger bracelet and clasp of the 124060 ( have a flat 6.5" wrist), if felt more like a cuff than a bracelet. I know we're talking millimeters here but when you have a small wrist, they make a big difference. That's what ultimately made me stick with the 114060.

The last generation is with the ceramic bezel started from and the maxi case. However, they have discontinued that so it is a rare commodity. I have the 116613LB which I love and also I have the new 126610LN which I also adore. They are both Keepers in its own rights. Who would agree???

I own the 114060 and 124060 (finally after a 2 year waiting list), 114060/116610 wears a little more comfortable than the new one but I have 6.7' wrist so take that into consideration. On a side note, the great thing about the no date Sub is no one ever ask me about it, unlike owning date Submariner or GMT where I get a lot of comments about the watch. Just something to think about.
@rooterman26192 ай бұрын
I picked up my 126610ln 3 years ago in 12/21. I love the watch but I always felt my 116710 GMT wore a lot more comfortable but never liked the polished center links. I just recently purchased a 116610LN and I can say this is a one and done watch. It wears much more comfortable on my 7.5 inch wrist and it is better proportioned for most wrists. The wider bracelet on the 126610ln needs a slightly larger taper to the 116610 sized clasp. It is hard to explain how much better the smaller 40mm/20mm bracelet and clasp feel vs the 41mm/21mm bracelet and clasp. The case sizes feel the same but I also think the 116610 looks more masculine. The movements are different but they both keep the same +1 seconds per day if I wear them every day.

Rolex absolutely addressed everything from the super-case “31 series movement” Sub model I found a bit off when it was introduced. Honestly the Sub41 looks like a direct modern replacement from my 5 digit Subs but built significantly better and tighter. Because of this “perfection in the details”, the Sub41 will be the most sought after model for a long, long, time. 😵💫. There is no getting around this. It’s going to be a real world $15k+ model maybe forever. I just won’t let the AD games and acquisition cloud the actual watch because it’s a innocent victim in the wallet flexing game. The dial to bezel ratio is perfect. I also love the new lugs, fatter hour hand and wider clasp. The clasp now looks in proper proportion and scale to the head of the watch. Previous Sub the clasp looked a little diminutive. Everything about these changes complete the look. I compare this to what Rolex did between the first gen DSSD and second gen DSSD with new bracelet. I also find it interesting that the dial and hands of the Sub 41 are now the exact same size as the SD43. Now the GMT line looks a bit dated.🤫

A very comprehensive 1st time review Guy, you can only make a 1st impression once. I pretty much agree with most of your observations and comparisons between this and the last model. I'm a symmetry nut so needless to say I'm not the biggest fan of the date and cyclops as to me it just keeps drawing my eye to the date when I look at the face. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike the date version I just prefer the one without. I was on the AD list for the 11 series but last September it was replaced by the new 41mm version, I then registered interest for the new one and ultimately got the call that a no date sub 124060 would be available if I was still interested. The outcome of that is obvious and to my mind money well spent. The bezel action is a significant step above any other diver watch I've owned, the finish is superb for the price as well. The biggest surprise was that this watch is so comfortable on the wrist and in my mind actually wears smaller than the dimensions suggest. Now, If I'd got the call earlier with the 11 series would I consider changing (I'll not call it an upgrade) to the newer version? Probably not, the extended power reserve is nice but not a deal breaker as my no date version does not need the date resetting if not worn for a few days, a quick wind and a twist of the crown and all is well. From a clasp perspective the glidelock is great but if I'm honest I prefer the push button extension on the Omega Seamaster more but that is really picking at nits. Thanks again Guy for a great review.
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the feedback Anthony I appreciate it. I tend to be a little obsessive about symmetry as well actually, but weirdly the date on the Sub doesn’t bother me. Dials with offset power reserve indicators and sub dials tend to bother me tho. 🤷🏻♂️
@anthonystevens86833 жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish I agree with you on offset sub dials as they just off balance the dial. I came close to a purchase of a Grand Seiko Snowflake with gold markers last Christmas but although I loved the step less seconds I had trouble looking past that power reserve indicator. I guess it's just as well as I recently got the call for my Oyster Perpetual 124300 silver dial for a lower cost. If I'd purchased the GS it would probably have very little wrist time now that I have the OP. The OP has perfect symmetry and the same 3230 movement as my sub. I guess I was very fortunate on this occasion.
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын

The longer minute hand that now finally reaches the markers, the thicker hour hand that now looks more cohesive with the minute hand and the slimmer lugs just make it more streamlined compared to the "boxy" feel the supercase gave me. It is the first Submariner I would like to get
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, glad you had time to check it out. The new streamlined profile on this one is definitely a move in the right direction, but at least for me, the new slightly bigger bracelet does make it feel a bit bulkier - not that it’s significant or necessarily even bad.

I wish they would size down the whole thing, like pre ceramic proportions with a ceramic bezel. Or introduce a smaller line like Tudor. I love my maxi case sub, but in all honesty it looks very large on my and most people’s wrists and the whole big watch trend seems to easy off a bit in the last years, with a lot of sub 40mm divers showing up on the market.

Thanks a lot for this video. I’m contemplating getting a sub and I may actually go with the older due to the fit/size of the bracelet and clasp. I appreciate the honesty.

is the submariner any more water resistance than explorer?
@JustBlueFish Жыл бұрын
Yes, a lot more. The explorer is only 100m WR. The Submariner is 300m.
@leeonr Жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish i had to ask because i heard that many watch companies claim their watches are ____m water resistant but are not, and some watches actually do better job at keeping water out than others.

Oh, and the bracelet taper is so much better…..👍. The 32 series movement issues were and are reported but not as significant as other new issues movements always seem to have that pop up.
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын
I've heard some complaints from people about their 32xx movement based watches. I don't own one yet so can't really back up those claims with long term experience but it's concerning to hear more and more complaints for sure.
@TheMystro19713 жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish I am going chalk my previous 32 series movement slowing down to early introduction tweaks. Obviously Rolex has always addressed their movement issues silent behind the scenes. Mostly during routine services are the movement issues fixed silently.

Own both and of course both are fine watches . I do like the changes . Wasn’t sure about 21mm bracelet when first announced but the extra mil I feel gives it a little more uniformed look . The bracelet also just makes it a little more planted on wrist. Although it has to be said the 40mm is also a good wearing watch but the 41mm is fantastic wearing ..
@JustBlueFish3 жыл бұрын
Ya the new model is very nice, I like it, it feels like it's just a bit better in terms but the design. But I'm happy with mine and will sit on it for a while with no regrets.
@4034miguel3 жыл бұрын
Of course it is just my opinion: I think 4omm is the best size for all wrist size. In my particular case, it is the maximum I can wear (small wrist here). Another consideration is the design: I tried different watches of 41mm and while some looked big others give the impression that they are smaller. But knowing that a watch is 40mm, I am sure it will fit me perfectly. Thanks for a great review.

where is a good place to sell a Rolex? I have a 114270 M- series I`m interested in selling to get this Sub
@JustBlueFish Жыл бұрын
You can sell directly to DavidSW, Exquisite Timepieces, or any other reputable watch dealer. While you won't get top dollar you will get a secure and hassle free transaction. If you need to get top dollar, you accept risk, but places like Chrono24.com are watch selling marketplaces.

I enjoyed your impressions and comparisons to your previous model submariner. I have the new 41mm no-date Sub myself. For me personally, the biggest everyday noticeable improvement Rolex made was adding AR coating to the crystal. I like looking at the dial. It's good being able to clearly see it. I look forward to more of your videos.
