Omega also got me when I was a kid. I hadn't even heard of Rolex when I knew I desperately had to have an Omega. I'm 49 now, and many Rolex's have come and gone from my collection. I still own many Omega's, and just one Rolex.

Well said Tim. I often find it an interesting point to either “love” or “respect” Rolex. It’s a hard concept for folks new to the watch world. The robust nature of the “crown” can’t be denied (and marketing prowess). The watches you introduced today for Vacheron were truly interesting. How about a show on just Vacheron? They seem to get lost in the conversation. They can do everything in the watch complication space but have no iconic pieces that set them apart. The question often is “why Vacheron vs Patek or AP?” Maybe you could answer that question. There have to be pieces that rival or exceed the other two of the holy trinity. Sure marketing may hamstring them, but true collectors seem to shy away also.
@the1916companywatchreviews4 жыл бұрын
I would go with Vacheron for value, quality, and variety. Consider a watch like the Saltarello or the Sputnik; Patek would never make a watch like either. And given unbroken production dating back to 1755, you are guaranteed to find a Vacheron that speaks to you. Finally, Vacheron quality gives up nothing to Patek, but look at how a 47112 Malte perpetual calendar chronograph (mid- $40K) in yellow gold compares to a Patek Philippe 5970J ($140K!!) with the base base movement finished to the same standard. I have a NEW SD-43 126600 that I acquired at Christmas time. I personally think this is the best dive watch available at the moment. For other Rolex people, don't be surprised if submariner get bigger. "We are all living longer and our eyesight is getting worse" and this alone is enough reason for big brand companies to start working on the future. I agree with you about the Ceramic Bezel and I think we will see more Rolex examples coming soon. Some of the current shortages could also be explained by retooling of workshops, although i wouldn't know what goes on in Rolex. I assume though that Rolex like any company will lead us into the 2020's with new exciting things to spend our money on.

Hey Tim, The Longines Legend Diver actually does not meet the ISO 6425. It doesn't have an indication that the watch is running in total darkness as well as the internal rotating bezel can't be used without compromising water resistance (confirmed by Longines) so it can't really be used to dive but it is 300M WR when both crowns are screwed down.

The GP constant escapement is sort of my grail watch for that maker. I have large enough wrists to wear a watch that size with no concern. The Zeitwerk is likewise the watch I'd most want from ALS (not that I'd turn down any of them). I like interesting mechanical innovations like that. It's unlikely I'll ever own either, but they are neat to see. Conversely, that Patek just falls flat.
