I spent most of my life now learning to play piano and studying theory. I’ve encountered many musicians from all walks of life and I’ve learned this. It’s not about being better than the next guy, its really about the music. When musicians become skilled, they tend to become assholes. Especially towards people that don’t meet their precious expectations or impress them at all. That reminds me of this comment section. Every comment is about how he should’ve learned theory or taken lessons or the title says an ACTUAL pianist or they didn’t like how he played the intro and a million other things instead of the actual product. No one here has one these. No one even knows how to fully play the damn thing. Nobody cares about the sea lab board or whatever the hell it is. I feel like I’m literally the only person that could care less about this dudes credentials and just wanted to see some footage of this piano of the future looks and sounds like. This is why I can’t stand other musicians.

I am pretty sure he stated "An Actual Pianist" as way to indicate someone who plays piano well who can properly review a piece of tech like this. The pianist doesn't refer to himself as a professional in the video, rather a self-taught instrumentalist.

Did you come to hear Amelie Poulain or to see a review about the keyboard? A good pianist doesn't play everything perfectly in one try, it takes effort to play anything perfectly, the fact that he can't play one song with perfection doesn't make him any less of a pianist or his opinion less value. I can't believe that so many stupid people in this world exist as to confuse the meaning of what a pianist is or what makes an opinion less valuable.
@xinaesthetic7 жыл бұрын
Well, it seemed like he choose to describe himself as "an actual pianist" _in the title to the video_, and the main purpose of that performance at the beginning of the video was to demonstrate that... actually, I notice he's a friend of the person who runs the channel, and he doesn't come across as having any particular pretension about his status as "an actual pianist" when he talks. For someone like me who's an intermediate / fairly basic pianist at best and clicks on this video on the basis of its title, it's a bit jarring when what you actually get at first is not the Rise but a rather clumsy rendition of a fairly simple and very familiar piece. Also, I was a little bit skeptical initially about the notion that a pianist would somehow be in a privileged position to review this device, which is really much more of a keyboardist/synthesists plaything it would seem... and I'm sorry to say that I didn't glean much insight. Indeed, his comment that he's not really played much with synths doesn't really add to his credibly in reviewing this. Anyway, not wishing to be too hard on anyone here, all seem nice and well intentioned, but I'm afraid this seemed less as "A Review By An Actual Pianist" and more "a guy who dabbles with a bit of music sharing some thoughts off the top of his head". Which still probably puts it in the top 10% of KZbin gear reviews, but hey ho. Not sure why I felt the need to review the comment on the review, but there we are... a few minutes of my life I won't be getting back.

Roll choose the keyboard format because it is easily understood, not because they were trying to replace the piano. I couldn't care less what a 'pianist', professional or not, thought. Does it have the ability to bring out more expression in sounds both synthetic and 'real' (violin, sax and horns, etc). Looks like the Roli might have to join my toolkit...

He said himself he is a self taught instrumentalist. You can easily hear that. So saying it's a review by "an actual pianist" is leading people on, you don't expect to hear the opinions from someone who isn't actually a propper trained pianist. I know a guy and it would be a direct insult to him and his years of training, saying this guy is a pianist...

You're an impressive player, but you really put a lot of people off by calling yourself an "actual pianist". It's a silly and pretentious distinction you made that communicates to your audience that you think your position as an "actual" (which by the way is totally meaningless, everyone who can play is an actual pianist) pianist puts your opinion above others'. I won't pretend you're untalented or that you don't make good points in your review, but if you wanted a better response to the video you probably shouldn't have used a self-agrandizing pretense to introduce your points.
