Brother Curtis was a poet and a visionary. This is Curtis' open letter to young black men to not let those who denigrate us be right. _("Are we gonna hang around this town and let what others say come true?")_ AND it's also a call against black on black violence. _(But there's the joker on the street, lovin' one brother and killin' the other. By the time comes we are really free, there'll be no brothers left, you see.")_ He even addressed color-struck behavior within our community that was much more prevalent 50 years ago. _("High-yella gal, can't you tell, you're just the surface of our dark, deep well. If your mind could really see, you'd know your color same as me.")_ Finally, Bro. Curtis was telling us to be real with ourselves. _("Pardon me Brother- as you stand in your glory... I hope you don't mind if I tell the WHOLE story.")_ In other words, not just what you "want" to hear, but what you "need" to hear.

These men are true musicians not so much entertainers. I’d see him and other artists live back in the 70’s. Each instrument speaks to other instruments. Each holds respect for all instruments. Best part were the “solos” too! Watching a story in motion.

Nothing wrong with electronics - there are a bunch in his guitar and amp. Also, I don't think electronics did George Clinton any harm!
@dme10162 жыл бұрын
@@bencolemanart Who the fuc* is talking about Clinton? I'm old school, but since you brought it up.... I know that Clinton was a dude who let the great musicians around him, create all those iconic songs, & many went broke, while George claimed the music as his, while he snorted-up the popularity....THEN...sold the song rights for cash $$ years ago...for MORE coke, & stiffed the actual creators. Now he wants the courts to give him the song rights back, even though the deals were legit....bcuz he needs more coke $$.

Did anyone notice the number of Blackmen with their women, children and families in the park footage? Walking with their sons, dancing with their girlfriends or wives, playing baseball. The early 70's. Brothers were, for the most part, still in the homes and lives of the Black family. Warmed me up inside to see this.

Thanks for your complement ! .. the words you speak are more than 250% correct .. all the percussion sounds played by "Master" Henry on the recordings were played simultaneously without the need to overdub !! .. He should be in the "Hall of Fame" for percussionist .. I really miss my bandmates ! yeah, Craig McMullen (original guitarist w/ Curtis Mayfield "live" and recordings)

Thinking of days wen protesting for equality in racist america and knowing by 2015 both Blacks and Caucasians will live in harmony. James Brown holler, 'we black and proud but a forgotten brother, Mayfield ' We the people who darker than blue', don't stand around town......sadistic behavior of policing Black america, racist manager of public housing, slumlords needs to held accountable. No one should be above the law! Black folk be proud of your kinky hair, dark skinned; if you are a black man, you are from Africa. WE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DARKER THAN BLUE......
