If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Gary Richrath would be flattered to death with so many people playing one of his greatest songs ever. People don't imitate mediocrity, they imitate greatness.

Perks to you! You did a great job, but no one seems to be able to do it or sound like Gary did. Gary was the R in REO, after he left they never sounded the same. Thank you my friend for keeping his playing alive!

Great lesson. Richrath was all that and seeing it layed out like this is great. The mix of major and minor and those little squeal things he did, brilliant. Always playing for the song. He had that cranked sound but made it fit. REO was an amazing band. We all know where it went. Thank you for posting this. I got some practicing to do.

An under rated rock tune by an unfortunately under rated guitarist. The bend passage starting around 00:47 is unlike any other that I know of. Great job. Gary would have approved.

I clicked on this with reservations because this song not only kicks MAJOR ass, it also has my most fav Richrath riffs. I must admit, my fears were unfounded. If I could "Like" the video twice, I sure as hell would. Rock on, brother...I'm sure Gary approves :-)

Yes, the best rendition I’ve seen as well. You and I hear important things that either aren’t in the song or most all covers over look. The rakes that start a phrase, the octave jump to the subtle scale up, all as important as any note. Would have loved to have seen/heard you split screen the main solo. GREAT JOB!!!!! Thanks for this!

Love songs that start off at TEN. This one is a great example. Larry Carlton's playing on Don't Take me Alive is another. Not sure if those are octave bends everywhere around the neck, but they look painful. Nice job!

After I learn it sometimes I punch in and record one line or another and see how it compares with the original. Then I make adjustments and do it over again... And just repeat this process. Also as far as effects.. www.leadsolo.com/lead-solo-blog/what-effects-am-i-using

And there you have it folks. When you can rattle off stuff like this without even trying , you know you’re starting to get good! Sad story about REO . They were an excellent band throughout the ‘70s with a large cult following but that all changed in 1980 when they sold their fans up the river to produce bubblegum pop. Their new brand of lame love songs put them on top of the chart and provided the band members with healthy bank accounts and countless underage female fans while their original fan base disposed of their albums and concert ticket Stubs embarrassed for ever liking REO. Their wimpy new bubblegum style dealt a heavy blow to their image as a serious rock band and negatively impacted REO’s place in rock history
@redcopenhagen18215 жыл бұрын
Dont hate... I know your stating facts but to some people thats an opinion... Reo will still go down in history as a great 70s rock band
@patrickferrara66684 жыл бұрын
I LOVE REO's stuff from the 70s trust me. But Hi Infidelity is still a great album even though a bit softer. Don't Let Him Go is rocking hi-energy. REO plowed through TEN YEARS of great rock from 70-80 If they changed in your opinion to softer rock with Hi Infidelity ... well, they paid their dues for long enough and it was time for them to get paid financially. Just because they decided to "produce bubblegum pop" doesn't mean they automatically become successful - the songs still had to be really good. And Gary still made his mark on the "lame love songs" especially Keep On Loving You with a piercing solo. You cant say Take It On the Run is a much different style than many songs on Tuna Fish - just because it had the success it had doesn't necessarily mean it was a sell-out song. And ... Kiss had Beth, GNR has November Rain, Journey has Open Arms, Motley Crue has Home Sweet Home etc... on and on. Why is REO the only band that seems to get wrecked because of their softer songs but not bands such as these??
