A great video. I enjoy your calm, slow demeanor. Your video views on setting up your rigs and baiting are the equal of any; we see it all. In some kayakers you just see their feet when rigging up! You had contact with a very good, understanding Fish & Game enforcement fellow. And you landed and gently released and very big, tired fish. I have to give you the best of maybe all awards for responding to almost every one of your "commenters". Some top fisher UTubers answer maybe 1 of 50 questions they receive. Too busy, forget their roots of fellow fishers, or WHY???

Get a box of the cheap plain Knox gelatin. Mix it into juice from canned corn with a couple drops of yellow food coloring. Use enough so it gets pretty hard after it sets up. Chop it up into little cubes and you have a TON of artificial corn. It keeps a long time in the fridge and stays on the hook a lot better than real corn. Nice fishing video! The officer was ok. At least he told you other places to try. Hit those guys up for info! They see a lot of guys fishing, and know all the good spots. - Joe

Nice video! In my teens I used to bike from Hillsdale/Almaden to that dam in the Guadalupe with a telescoping spinner rod and reel and a multi pocket fishing vest stuffed with tackle from the Banana Republic catalogue (back when they sold foreign military surplus and safari clothing/gear). I would fish at the base of the dam in the pool between the dam face and the raised concrete lip downstream of the dam, which used to coral some pretty big carp. Managed to take three carp that ran 26”, 17” & 15” with corn. Lots of fun back in the day, as was fishing the perk ponds behind Pioneer HS (one largemouth bass, but usually bluegill and crappie). Hadn’t fished in decades, and I’m sure the license is expensive now. Cheers!

When we were kids, we'd just take an old fishing rod, get on our bicycles, and go anywhere along the river, out of sight from the street, and avoided being too close to anyone's house, and we were OK ! We didn't even keep the fish, we'd remove the hook carefully and put the fish back in the water, we just wanted to try fishing once in a while ! All I'm seeing nowadays is people in trouble from strangers, from game wardens, etc. Now you need to know soooo much about licensing, about what's in season, what isn't, what size is legal, and what's not, how many, if your child needs a license if accompanied by a licensed adult, etc. etc. Do I need to study law I order to fish legally ? Fu*k, it's not like I have a 100 ft Chinese trawler and I'm fishing off the coast of Maine !

Yep, it's BS. Not sure when this type of overzealous policing began but in in 2011, I was 16 or so and got a $50 ticket for having a 5 year state license but NOT a local permit. This jerk-off ran my license over the radio too to make sure I wasn't a criminal on the run or something.. At 16, when a lot of kids are out smoking pot and getting into trouble but they decide to mess with the kid doing some fishing on a little 20 acre pond? Really ruined the experience for me and didn't fish again for years after that. But I did start running around my with friends that got in trouble for a couple years after that because it didn't seem to matter if I was fishing or underage drinking.

An unfortunate end result of massive irresponsibility by a faction of the fishing public. Many, many folks are still being totally selfish in their actions by taking undersized fish, allowing fish to die and then throwing them back into the water, taking over limit, taking out of season..., the list is almost endless. And, unfortunately, attempts to correct illegal behavior without law enforcement is generally met with abusive responses from the rest of the public. Much like people claiming that they teach their kids values like honesty and the same people labeling someone a "rat" when they report a bad actor, many fishermen dislike the abuses by a few but also do not act to stop it. 20 years ago I was practically chased off the Belmont pier for having the audacity to confront a guy who was about to cut up a halibut that was about 6" under the size limit. Even the boneheads around me knew that a halibut that size has not spawned yet and there is no better way to destroy a fishery than to kill off the potential breed stock. But rather than back me up everyone else either ignored the event or criticised me for interfering with another fisherman. Regulation is annoying but the end result of a combination of simply too much fishing pressure and too much abuse by a part of the community. Sad, but without it we would probably have no fishing left at all.

I case you haven’t noticed they’ve militarized just like all other members of the SS. It used to be no problems with game wardens. Now a lot come up with an attitude right off

Is this rule for all rivers? Including Tracy rivers? I was never aware of the rule.
@ItGetsReelFishing2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know it's for certain rivers not all but u would have to look up the rules and regulations for your local rivers
@sykesgeo1322 жыл бұрын
I fish the San Joaquin county and there are some fish if you catch them don't be caught with a barbed hook I know salmon and sturgeon are two of them for cat stripers and bluegills I believe you can have a barbed hook though.

Can someone tell me where in the Californian fishing hand book it says anything about it being illegal to use barb hooks in rivers. I've checked the book left to right up and down???
@G3Steve3 жыл бұрын
That SPECIFIC creek requires you to use barbless. Doesn’t apply to ALL CA rivers
@ItGetsReelFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it only applies to certain creeks and rivers.
@mikeshuck27603 жыл бұрын
All the creeks in Santa Clara Valley have special regulations. Close Nov. to April. As he said. To protect steelhead and the occasional salmon that go up these creeks. The Ca fish and game map works great. apps.wildlife.ca.gov/sportfishingregs/#skip-to-regs.

Man I’m watching ur video cause I’m scared of the wardens and I’m literally boutta go carp fishing on that exact rod
@ItGetsReelFishing Жыл бұрын
Fun fight for sure. It may take a while to get the fish in because the drag system isn't that great but overall u won't get a fight like that on any other rod.

When DFW say artificial, they mean straight plastics, no flavored/scented baits like gulps or even salted Senkos so Berkleys artificial corn isn't legal for restricted streams/rivers.
@PHUCKyoutube689 Жыл бұрын
I have never heard of anyone e being busted for Senkos. I fish Lake Barret which is an artificial only and DFW never says anything about my senkos even though they look right at them closely when examining my barbs. Gulp they will bust you for using.

I used to do a lot of fishing when I was young but then the government started to add all kinds of unnecessary over controlling regulations so I quit fresh water fishing. I understand the need for regulations to protect fish during their breading and having some size limits but some other regulations are over the top with control issues. I see a lot of people fishing from bridges and wonder what happened to the law that made it illegal to fish from a bridge? I also see so many fishermen throwing their catch back and wonder why fish at all if you do not want to eat what you catch?
@ItGetsReelFishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree some laws are a little outrageous but it is what it is. I often fish to eat but it really depends on the species and the water quality as this river has a lot of trash and sewage that I would not dare to eat anything from it.

nice fish,, i fly fish for carp on some lakes,, hard to catch, but when you catch one on a fly rod... its a great fight to get them to net..nice of the dfw to spot out a better spot for you..i always fish barbless. easier to release the fish, or pill the hook out of you body ( happen alot when fly fishing big flys, like for stripers, we call it ' chuck and duck ' ) anyway..its not really the barb hold the fish on, its the curve of the hook and the pressure you put on the rod/ line that keeps them on
@ItGetsReelFishing2 жыл бұрын
Nice!!! I have yet to fly fish, it seems like it's a good fight when you hook up.
