Ive opened viper many times and during block check we can enable the touchscreen display and release the train, each train gets cycled a minimum of 6 times per train before we check the blocks if it's a 2 train op day. The last block we check at viper is station to lift then test to see if it'll dispatch with unlocked harnesses and open air gates, each train to test blocks has to sit for 10 seconds before the computer can pass it. For the most part yea you've nailed vipers block check, and matniance is standing with us for a just in case of an error.

Me: Puts coaster in full manual mode, pushes train near top of hill, stops it, puts coaster in automatic mode. Train rolls back and fourth until it runs out of momentum.

Tying into your comment about B&M block setting -- the rides are nowadays smart enough to automatically detect (via PLC) if the train has stopped in an unsuitable position and will potentially roll back. That said, the B&Ms at Cedar Point will never need maintenance, and will automatically clear as soon as the next block is available.
@CoasterCollege

nice, figured B&M would have all that figured out.

I used to work for carowinds/Cedar fair for 8 years as a full time IT associate and closing IT manager for the park before being moved to the Corporate office at cedar point and helped the rides department at carowinds when they needed 18 plus year olds for controls as they where short staffed most days and didn’t have enough 18 plus so I would help in the mornings before my IT shifts and was certified on all positions at all rides in the park. All of the B&M rides and all of the coaster at carowinds would auto detect train positions and also auto advance mid course sections. The B&M rides would also auto restart the lifts after a setup once the next block cleared the ride would sound the lift start alarm again then after 5-10 seconds would auto restart the lift but only if a setup caused the lift to stop If the lift was stopped by a ride stop or lift stop on the main panel it required a manual restart by the start lift button at the base of the lift as well as the lift start on the main panel. All the non B&M rides required a manual lift start at all times when a lift stop occurred. Where you mentioned pushing a ride we had to do this with the gold rusher ride in the mornings at times at these trains sat on the tracks in the station all night and would develop flat spots in the wheels and needed to be given a hand to roll them out as carowinds only allows maintenance staff and full time employees to do train transfers or any kind of ride resets that clear faults ride operations does not do any of that at that park

To be fair, NoLimits 2 is designed with creativity in mind. The maintenance procedure is secondary to that and it assumes that the coaster is running at peak efficiency. Even the effects of weather on the ride are not simulated at all.

There is actually a way to simulate block clear interval in NL2, you just set the extra block length to a certain length which tells the ride system to not let the previous train advance until that extra length is clear too, even if the train has left the brake run. Good for spacing out trains and preventing multiple stacks as you said.

@Owly123 ok but I refused to ride roller coasters when I was younger because I broke my nose on a stupid kiddie ride. Then I learned that coasters aren't supposed to do that. I still wonder what was wrong with that ride. Old age? Bad design? Drunk and/or high operator? (This was at a fairgrounds that got shut down for similar things, including an op that sexually harassed a guest)

Yep! That's exactly the way it was done. I ran an old Arrow coaster. I sure do remember the roll backs in cold weather with maintenance standing there to catch it. If it did roll back then they had to get a crane to pull it out. I always did the block check every morning. If I worked a double on another ride and there was a shut down I would always get pulled to run the block check because the afternoon/evening crew never did them.

um just to point out something, the mid course brake release is actually about 3/4 the way up the lift hill, i know this due to have been a ride attendent and got to close viper one night and i got sent up the lift hill to release those brakes. so that maintenance could pull the trains into the storage area.

*popping a vertigo/anti-nausea pill to get through this video* Excellent explainations tho. I would love to see the actual daily walks & checks each ride goes through from the very beginning of the morning. Does someone really have to walk to the top of Millenium? #legdayeveryday And what are they looking for? And do the employees get to take rides before the park opens to the public that day? Lots of questions...
@undgcat6767

i know i am 3 years late and work at six flags instead of cedar fair but a certified operator needs to check to make sure maintenance has signed off for the ride to be operated, then they do a perimeter walk around the ride area making sure all the gates and doors are properly locked, then we turn on the ride, make sure our stop buttons work and do block check, then we do a safety ride (each train must be ridden by a certified operator to make sure the ride experience is normal- no unusual noises, smells, sights or vibrations. can't tell you about millenium force but some rides require someone to climb to the top of the lift to test an E stop, but not all coasters.

That was cool, and I learned some cool new things. I'd love to hear more on beak checks and other procedures done by parks. As a good example Maverick @ CP. When it stops at the top of the lift hill. What is the procedure to bring it back to the bottom? Or when Top Thrill Dragster rolls back, how do they get it to clear the tower? Anyway, great video and thanks.
@coaster_dude22
@coaster_dude22 4 жыл бұрын
With Top Thrill Dragster they have brakes that engage after the train passes over them through the launch, if the train rolls back the brakes catch them and something pulls the train back to go through another launch. The computer system has recognized this and the next launch will have a little more umpf as I like to call it
@CoasterCollege

@@coaster_dude22 Close, dragsters launch track is angled upwards, so the train will roll back to the launch position.

As for maverick, that ride cannot stop on the lift. From what I understand they test if it will start to launch when the next block is occupied. I could be wrong though!
@andrewking2193
@andrewking2193 4 жыл бұрын
@@CoasterCollege I don't know the procedure or why Maverick dose it, but I was on it once and it made a digital sound and stopped at the top of the hill. We sat for a few seconds and then rolled back about 3 feet, stopped, moved up the hill about a foot, and rolled back another 3 feet. This happened all the way down. Once at the bottom, the ride made a sound like it was connecting to the internet through dial up and then tried the relaunch. After three times of trying the ride operator closed Maverick and called maintenance. Since it happened I've been really interested in knowing why it happened and what caused it.

Would I be correct in guessing that some block sections are intended to only be triggered in emergency, and require a manual restart, but others which are intended to be employed more routinely (e.g. because a passenger takes too long disembarking, causing trains behind to get backed up) and include safety equipment to allow for routine automatic restarts?

Can you provide more detail about warming up trains? What purpose does it serve? Potential obstacles are there for cold trains? Do you ever heat the trains before warming them by running them?
@TinkSalsa
@TinkSalsa 2 жыл бұрын
Cold weather increases friction, making the trains move slower. So they start by running them a bunch to decrease the chance they valley or otherwise get stuck due to slow speed. Running the trains warm up the wheels so more momentum is conserved due to less friction.

How does a ride fail the block checks? Block brakes fail to activate and the (empty) trains crash into each other? Does that ever happen? I imagine that would be really bad, but of course much better than if there were riders on it.
@flatfingertuning727
@flatfingertuning727 4 жыл бұрын
If one were to do a block check using two trains, and kept the block ahead of the front train clear, then even if the next train blew past its block brake it would still be many seconds from the train in front; if someone is present to release the one in front, the brake that had successfully stopped it could stop the one behind.

Hello there GP2E: hey maybe you could come up with some of your own creations in this sim. I mean you could even build your own coasters and i have seen some pretty insane layouts in this sim with TONS of theming with some of them (a lot of it is really well done and could work in say Universal or Disney) while some just great looking coasters that would be fun to ride if made real (most are just fantasy coasters cause they look like that they would be WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to build. What i am trying to say is that you could come up with some pretty awesome creations of your own. Like you could build your dream B&M floorless coaster in this game or say your dream RMC.
