I’ve always given up on skating because seemed too difficult to learn but a bunch of girls from a skate group recommended your videos so I bought some skates. I’ve been practicing and I’m slowly getting better. I struggle with keeping myself busy (depression) but now I have something to look forward to doing every day! Skating! First thing to do when getting skates - either out of the box when you get your own or if you rent from the rink - check them out and make sure all parts are there! LOL People have lost toe stops and never claimed them. My local rink has a toe stop "wall" - all lost stops are kept up there for people to claim. How do you not know you're missing a stop?

Hi Dirty Deborah Harry! I love it when you introduce yourself… so does my family! It’s so catchy! All 6 of us are really getting back into skating or just beginning. We’re in each age group under 40…next year my husband and I will be in that bracket, Yah willing. We have 21, 16, 10, and 6. My husband dances so it’s super easy for him to skate… he’s now chasing tricks and is pretty good at it lol. He’s a huge inspiration for myself and our “yungg’ns”. Your videos are extremely helpful. I was able to pop this on while my older crew were around and now we all can maintain our own skates… and not just mama doing all of the work lol. Interestingly enough, we have each kind of toe stop plate style. I have and prefer the Allen Screw type Thank you and many blessings to you and yours! 💞 from 🌞 FL.

I got new sure grip skates and tried to skate in them, yeahhhh I didn’t know about cushions until a few weeks ago and my new cushions are on their way! Turning just wasn’t happening. I got yellow sure grip cushion and I weigh around 120lbs. I’m average in skating so I think i got the right softness/hardness but later I may get the purple just in case. Can’t wait til you make more in depth videos!!💕

@@insertwhimsicalnamehere4398 I loosened the trucks a bit too. Just as Deborah suggests, but I was a little more conservative. I tightened them, and then did quarter turns with the screw at a time. I'm relatively new to skating. I bought Sure Grip Boardwalks initially, then added Moxi Ivy Jungles just recently. I think my Sure Grips are the better deal for the money. I have no complaints about their performance so far. Like you, I also bought the purple cushions, but now I can't remember if they are harder or softer....I think harder. Like wheels, there is so much that is just down to personal preference. I made my trucks super loose like Deborah had them. Whoa! That did not work for me at all. I discovered this PDQ! Try it really loose and see if you like it. Its just a few turns to the right to bring it back.

I have an old pair of Chicago skates. I think they're from the 70's - plates look like they're steel, the axles are a hair over 7mm, loose ball bearing wheels. Anywho, I know there are more like me out there with these sturdy old antiques that we want to rehab. Any tips/tricks for swapping in new parts on them would be fantastic in the upcoming videos. For example, I found out the hard way I can't get Qube 7mm bearings on to the axles and had to buy axle sleeves to use 8mm ones. Btw, I'm not only relearning how to skate from your videos but also using your tips to teach my kids. Thanks for all your hard work! If we ever make it from PA to your neck of the woods we will come to the rink for sure!

Chicago Skates is still in business! I would reach out to them for advice and parts. I find that rinks usually have several people knowledgeable in servicing old skates as well. Good luck 👍

Nice video. Everyone should own a 3 way tool. I took 15-20 minutes to adjust my trucks to how I liked them and they felt comfortable. Looking forward to your video about cushions. Thx for what you do.

Nice entrance ! I use CRC or WD40 and spray it into the bearings while they're spinning to flush out dust and dirt from street skating, after lubrication they free spin forever. I replaced my cushions on my old skates a while back, now I need new wheels. Tightness and looseness of trucks is ridiculously important, if it's not right even good skaters can be totally thrown off, took me ages to get them right when I replaced the cushions.

I have the cheap-o skates you mentioned in another video. They are my training skates to get me back into skating. I have changed out the wheels and the toe stop as the stock ones were too cheap! Anyway, the wheels were very tight, and I didn't know how loose they should be. Your videos have helped me understand what they should be doing. I am excited to try them out.

Ordering my roller skates on the 28th when I get paid can not wait I haven't skated since I was about 11 I'm now 19 this time I decided I'm going to get quad skates rather than blades I figured it might be a bit easier as my balance isn't the best!

Great! Start out easy and practicing consistently. You will have hard days as balance is a skill that must be mastered. You can start now off skates with balance exercises.

If you want good action, you have to make sure your nuts are adjusted. If you want movement, your nuts can't be too tight. Too loose nuts and you're out of control. Your nuts are important. You need the right cushions for the pushin.

Hi! I’m a beginner skater and just got my first skates (Impala’s). I’m a bit concerned at how much my front wheels/trucks twist when I lean to the side while standing still. I’ve checked everything you’ve talked about and the trucks feel tight when I try to move them with my hand, but they seem very flexible when wearing them. I should note that I’m overweight to maybe that’s putting more pressure on them... I dunno. Anyway, thanks in advance for a response, and thanks for this video! 😁
