Dear Katie, love your explanations. Allow me an important correction: You should ALWAYS use a spacer on the wheels. This is not to prevent rotation but to prevent you from damaging the bearing when tightening the nut without a spacer. You do not want loose wheels or nuts, so you should thighten. These bearings can only take light pressure from the nut side so it generates pressure and high friction on the bearing balls making them fail much sooner. Use spacer and tighten them well. (im an industrial mechanic)
@Skatie6 ай бұрын
For inlines they are 100% required for quads they are fine without. Unfortunately they cause more issues with beginners transferring incorrectly sized spacers between wheels which makes the bearings not seat correctly in the wheels. Speed skaters and artistic skaters will tend to use spacers as they skate at a higher level but for beginners they are safer without. Lots of starter sets ship with spacers because it protects the bearings from the machine tightening. I still roll bearings from the 90’s. 🦖 without spacers.

my experience with suregrip and impala: absolutely love my suregrip fame. they have a nylon plate and being a light skater i find it alot less demanding on my body when extending my free leg. especially having sacroillitis which often gets irritated while skating. i've had to swap the cushions they came with to softer ones as i noticed how loose my trucks were to make up for the lack of movement. i had impalas that were in a uk5, and found them super super heavy. the plate, and being 3 sizes too big for me. the boot ended up ripping up after 6 months of skating. my suregrip's have been skated on almost everyday for a year and they're still firmly attached. they're more maneuverable than impala and more responsive. my outdoor rollerdance set up: suregrip fame, moxi cheetah laces, better bearings in purple, radar crush wheels in 84A lilac and black bionic mirage toe stops. my indoor set up: the same but wheels are swapped to suregrip fame wheels in purple, and the suregrip carrera toe stops which i absolutely adore. i skated on impala 82A wheels for a year and a half and recommend them for beginners. i found i outgrew them as i progressed but they're still in really good shape and have given me no issues apart from just being not my preference

Most skates have an 8mm axel so any 8mm washers will be fine. I’d recommend purchasing skate specific nuts as they have a little locking nylon ring which stops them from working undone as you skate.

@LeapThroughTheSky3 жыл бұрын
You should do a video for wheels! I feel like there's a lot of videos, but either people have one favorite or it's via Moxi and so they don't discuss anything else. I want to get into artistic andeventually try freestyle specifically, but only have access to crappy ground. I have two indoor wheels, and one outdoor set (78a), but I'm small and light and think I need something with easier manueverabilty. Currently skating Risport, looking at Komplex 88A ghibli and Luminous. But I don't see a lot online about wheels that could potentially be used for artistic on a bad surface.
@Skatie3 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good idea. Thank you. Lots of artistic skaters use Roll-Line Helium wheels outside. They’re very good. Artistic is hard on a rough surface as your wheels need to have the ability to slip. If I’m doing tricks outside I’ll go for a 57mm 80D wheel for manuverability.

@@NathaliaSouza1971 the plate is an entry level roll-line so good for a beginner skate. If it’s a good price it sounds like it should be a good starter skate. I wouldn't know if there's a difference between a boot for ice and a boot for rollers. If not a custom pair of Harlicks are heaven on earth. I had them for ice. You would have to go to a shop that has a knowledgeable fitter. You also need patience. It can take 6 months or more to get them. I'm still waiting on the Reidells. It's been 5 weeks now for semi custom. This is from the U.S. I didn't have much choice in a boot like you would have overseas. I wanted the Moxy's but they don't come in white.
