Should have watched this before my first outdoor skate. I swear, stretches that aren’t even “hills” give you speed so fast!! I ate it five times and then decided to watch this video. I was able to verrryy slowly go down the hills on the way back. Thank you!

Tried to skate down a multi-story car park, on that grippy paint they use, with my shiny new soft outdoor wheels... Never had so much grip on anything in my life! A plough was completely out of the question (and I reached the bottom of the ramp with considerably more speed than was sensible) Turned out it was a great slope to practice going backwards with a toe stop in though 🙂Thanks again Katie, might be having a play with t-stops outside next time I get out, and heel turns next time I skate inside before taking them out...

🌸💜 Thankyou so much Skatie Katie for sharing so many helpful skating tips, your videos are wonderful, well explained, easy to follow. I am 57 years old, I have improved so much in such a short time in 2 months, I have gained so many skills. I am even skating down hills now (but very carefully, im scared to go fast) , I was terrified of hills (I wouldnt even go down the smallest gentlest of slopes) but your downhill video has given me confidence and taught me the skills needed. I have blades/ inline Skates so some things are a little different but I can still apply most of your skating techniques . A big thankyou, you are such a wonderful lovely person to put your own time into creating these videos and share your skating skills with everyone 💜🥰

Carving is so challenging on a narrow path (like narrower than a car lane), and I'm not super confident with backwards skating, especially on one foot. I can skate backwards okay, so I was wondering what you think of facing sideways and going from one side of the trail to another, alternating skating forward and backwards, to zigzag down a hill.??
@Skatie
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
It’s a similar tech to carving and would work in the same way. I’d just say be careful during the transition from left to right and vice versa as your wheels will be facing down the hill whist you make the turn as you may pick up speed quickly.

Hi Katie! First of all thank you so much for all your videos, me and my gf are watching every single one to learn the most about skating 😁 but we are really struggling to stop (sometimes we have to go with the hands to the ground 😂) I think already master the carving but sometimes I'm affraid to get out of space on the road and go straight to the grass 😅 So now I'm trying to own the backwards but I'm really really struggling to get on the backwards position, how do I turn my all body back in one momentum? Sorry for the long text! Once again thank you so much for your amazing work please keep "rolling" 😂

Try just getting a backward bubble first. Then try one leg at a time to get the motion of your legs. Then the hard part... dun. Dun. Dun. Duuuuuuunnnn. Get your favorite song and put it all together. Find the beat. Tip: Think backwards use your butt and lead foot to direct you. While shifting your weight from one leg to the other. Don't forget to use your shoulders. Right cheek, arm, and legs hold the weight. Shift. Left cheek arm and legs carry the weight. SWITCH! Right cheek, arm and leg! SWITCH! Left cheek, arm, and leg. Hope this helps! I just got it, got like yesterday.
@missalpha_essence3926
@missalpha_essence3926 Жыл бұрын
O and use some thing to push you off at first if you need to just build speed to do the backward motion. By then you should pick up on which leg you are pushing off with going backward (not using your toe stopper). Don't forget to look over your shoulder. And watch skating videos like ATL, Detroit, Cleveland videos; check dey footwork and invision yourself doing the steps. How it feels. How they may be distributing their weight to do the tricks. Trust yourself.

You could try practicing going into the grass. There’s nothing wrong with smoothly transitioning into a jog on the soft ground, and sometimes I have to when I hit some really bumpy ground that I have to go around. Then you can stop, turn around, and stay on the path backwards. That will hold you over until Skatie’s transition videos click for you!

Hi I'm back. So when I went to skate in front of my house I realized that the road has a bit of an incline which I don't really notice when walking. So I was very thrilled to see this video. I have found that I do currently prefer to do carving to slow down and turning to stop. I'm hoping to be able to turn backwards quickly and stop but nowhere near that happening yet. I had skated on our road before seeing this video. I noticed going side to side was causing me to speed up, kinda scary but figured it out. I'm glad I found this so I can make sure I'm using the carving technique properly. Thanks again for the awesome tips. Gonna watch hills part 2.

Stairs are nasty. I tend to hold the hand rail but also go onto my toestops. That stops the wheels from moving and gives you more control. Don’t be shy to also go down on your bum (like we all did as kids!) it’s a very safe option xx
