I used to ride only inline roller skates. After watching your videos I really wanted to try out quad skates. I thought it would be the same thing, but yesterday I got my new skates, and now I am realizing I can't stop, because the stop thing is on the front, and I am used to it being in the back. Hey Indy I love your videos they are so rad. I was wondering if you can do a video about the plates because I heard that the nylon plates could really hurt your knees overtime and there is no video about people talking about aluminum plates or magnesium plates just to upgrade from the nylon and I would really really really really love it if you actually did a video about that and gave us like more insight about what could happen if you don’t replace the nylon after a little while or the cushions in the plate. Plates are also a consideration when getting sizes. I have a Lolly 7 boot, but the Avenger plates I have pull the small toe cap further forward than when I had the original Thrust plates mounted. So I lace my boots under and then up and cross them over the cap, because otherwise I can't pull the laces tightly enough to get the cap to completely cover the toe of the boot and line up with the eyelets. So they crunch, but they fit better, haha.

Hopefully we are going to be visiting Abbey's family rink in the next couple of weeks (I grew up skating in Ducanville) with my littles to give the gift of skating to the next gen. I’m nowhere NEAR as good as you guys at skating, but I am pretty good. I can skate on streets, sidewalks, rocky grounds, and smooth ground, all while going a nice speed. I started skating “regularly” after a skate birthday party when I was 11, ( im 21 now lol) but I wish there were more skating opportunities where im from. I live in Houston TX and there’s no communities like this here. I’ll have to buy a plane ticket to visit this store one day, maybe learn some tricks too! Love the videos!!!

Through the eyes Of Jupiter if you’re still wondering impalas probably aren’t the way to go because I’ve heard from a lot of people that their boots come off of the wheels. I recommend candy girls instead.

you won’t be able to skate everywhere you go as there are restrictions but it depends on where you live, it’s a cool idea and it could work out for the most part. but make sure you have backup shoes in case you aren’t allowed to skate in a certain area.

Hi Abby … I have a question. I am interested in decking out my black Riedell 120 skates. I have a pink suregrip 65 mm outside wheels with a pink Sunlite plate. And pink laces. The pink plate turned out a weird color of pink- looks orange ish in the bedroom light. I haven’t taken them out yet, but I’m not crazy about how this is (not) coming together very cute. So now I have a hodge lodge of pink that I’m not crazy about. Do you have any examples of how to style a black leather boot with pink plate. I’m frustrated with the choices I made. Thank you- Thora

Obviously these are the large toe caps (6 rivets each side), what size skate are you putting these on? I'm also wondering if the inside of the rivets will rub on the skate underneath and cause wear? If so, would it be less wearing if the toe cap was a tight fit or a looser fit? My Lolly's are size 8 and I'm trying to decide which way to go......I don't want them looking like a baggy pair of pants but I don't want the skate underneath to get worn because the caps are too tight.

Leah yep! The first few months I was skating my back hurt until my core muscles built up and my squat got deeper. Solution is to keep skating and stretch!

Depends on how you lace your skates. For higher boots, most outdoor skaters (as well as those who skate JB style or shuffle), they only lace their skates up to the last eyelet...not up through all of the "hooks". So, if you only lace them part way up, you don't feel them as that part of the skate doesn't usually touch your leg. I would assume you probably would feel them if you insist on lacing your skates all the way up to that top hook, though.

A few months....maybe. The synthetic boot and nylon plates do make me a bit nervous when it comes to derby since your skates can get pretty beat up just learning how to fall properly. The wheels are AWESOME! However, they might be a little TOO sticky if you're on a flat wood track (i.e. rink). If your derby league skates on a banked track you should be okay as you want a little extra grip to keep from "slipping" down the track while skating.

@@cap_patek1277 At your age, the nylon plate could actually work to your advantage. A lot of derby girls do prefer them, since they're so light-weight compared to a metal plate, but you do want to keep on eye on them. Inspect them closely after every practice and bout to make sure they're not cracked. The boot does still worry me a little, though. When you're able to get new ones, go for a leather boot. They'll last a lot longer. Also don't forget toe guards or toe caps of some sort if you don't have any yet. Due to the falling - and you will fall - plus derby being a contact sport, you will definitely want them as your skates will end up getting scuffed. Once the toe gets too scuffed, your toes will slide through the hole that is created from that scuffing. Honestly? I'd get a couple pairs just so you have an extra on hand. Also don't forget an extra pair of laces! Laces always seem to break at the worst time. Good luck and roll on!
