You be better mounting the motor to a plate welded to another post 5' deep,since you have to do the others anyway...it won't move...

Hi Larry, Great job!!! May I ask what gauge and size square tubbing you used? I need to build a gate to cover a 20' drive way and from reading the comments below I'm thinking I will need a 10' counter weight. Does that sound about right? Thank you so much for your help!!!

A good rule of thumb is around 30% of the original gate. But the weight of material used factors in as well.

Hey Larry I’m trying to make one of these but a 24 foot I’m not sure how long to make the counter weighted side you used 18 foot gate and 9 foot for the counter weight so I’m guessing you split in half. How long should I make the square tubing set apart from each other? If I could get some information that would be much appreciated. Nice video by the way. You do good work.

A lot goes into it..You need to start with weight of gate and how far you plan to space the post out..the total weight is real important to begin calculating

Add 40% to the width of your gate for minimum counterbalance

40% is a good number to start with, but it also depends how heavy the actual gate is

There is a part in video where it shows the tag of manufacturer.i don't remember the name, but they were around a $100 each

I got it online at ebay and it is for a 3300 Lb gate..
