A quick and simple tutorial on how to create a rolling fog with Axiom! This was built using Houdini 20.5.410 + Axiom 3.3.068 + Octane 2024.1.0.2. Gumroad link: oiolli.gumroad...

Hello, thanks for the great video! Can you tell me what version of MOPS you are using? I can't seem to install them correctly :(
@oiolli9 күн бұрын
Hey! I can't recall the exact version I used at the time, but right now I'm running one of the latest versions (1.9.0) and it works just fine. I do also have a license for MOPS+, but the shape falloff should be available in the free version.

You're in luck! I have a companion tutorial just on that. It's focused on Deadline, but the process with a local scheduler is identical. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5vEnKSGd8usmtE

how long it took to cache? is same cache time if i use houdini pyro?
@oiolli2 ай бұрын
On the demo simulations, it was less than 5 minutes. On the example scene, it took 20 minutes per cache. That is with a 3090 GPU. Houdini Pyro is much much slower than Axiom, you can totally use the same principles but I have limited experience with vanilla pyro.

What do you think about Octane?
@oiolli2 ай бұрын
Octane is great! It's my longest running GPU render engine, it certainly has some quirks running in Houdini, but once you get accustomed to it, it runs great. I'm not sure if I'll stick with it forever, depending if I fully embrace Solaris and how Karma develops, but I'm hearing octane support in Solaris is improving all the time. So we'll see! Regarding volume rendering, Octane / Redshift / Karma work about the same.

@@oiolli Does Volume Motion Blur work for you with Axiom in Octane? The last time I tried it half a year ago or so there was a problem specifically with volumes from Axiom Solver, couldn't get good looking motion blur, meanwhile MB works good with the regular Houdini pyro solver, need to test that again, but I doubt the problem fixed itself

@@vladyslavlavrenov9167 It's been a minute since I looked at it closely, I remember I needed to multiply the velocity post simulation to get it to show up with octane, but if I pushed it too far I got artifacting. I'll keep an eye on that.
@vladyslavlavrenov91672 ай бұрын
@@oiolli That's what happened to me. Multiplying the vel will bring artifacts out, that's the case, doesn't do that if the volume comes from the regular houdini pyro.
