It's pretty interesting that Jamey is paying other companies small development fees to develop realms based on their ip and is looking to include them in the future. He said he has the first outside realm submitted last week

TM was a promo available at Spiel I believe! Didn't know it was going to be continuing. That is actually fairly exciting!

A positive from my perspective is that the decisions you make in the game are surprisingly interesting. It's a small decision space: use both dice, one each in 2 of the 3 realms. Very focused decision, but with surprising depth. Adding in, of course, the option to modify the roll or create virtual dice with the resources. Another positive I think is that even though there are only 9 turns per round, there is a surprising amount of variance in terms of making tactical versus strategic decisions. Some realms really favor planning (Charterstone, Pendulum, Viticulture) whereas some encourage tactical strikes (for example, your 1 and 4 roll in Scythe meant you could get a pumpkin from Charterstone with the 1 and spend it right away on the bottom row of the 4 in Scythe). This example also illustrates that sometimes you try to get a resource so you can spend it right away, whereas in other turns you might be getting resources just so that you might have them for some future turn (My Little Scythe and Between Two Cities especially favor hoarding resources early). Personally I like the graphic design and that the art is minimally distracting.

The solo variant on this game is excellent for sure! It combines the realms into really well balanced combinations and provides unique goals! Was surprised to see Mike cover just the multiplayer version of this one. Maybe another video is coming? 😬😃

Potentially. I’ve been playing through the Solitaire Minigolf course.

@@michaeldilisio557 I'll really like to know what you think (and if you agree with me that it is fun)! Although I do wonder if it'll expand in the future like the normal game has expansion plans for!

Stonemaier: The Stonemaier Game I totally would like to try this sometime

Agreed about the minimalistic look and lack of compelling graphic design on the front side of the cards. The backs of the cards and the box cover looks a whole lot better than the rest in my opinion.

Nice review Mike. I initially had no intention of buying this game as I enjoyed the print and play experience already, but I'm very glad I did. The quality of the components are great, as simple as they are, and one of the best things about the game you didn't even memntion "The Mini Golf" style campaign. Yes, technically it is intended for solo play only, but as many roll n write games are almost multi-player solitaire anyway, it is a great challenge. Play it solo, or in parallel with others, it's just a good thinky time.

I purposefully didn’t mention the Minigolf campaign, since this was specifically a review for the multiplayer game. There’s a possibility that I cover the solo game in the future.

One thing that I'm interested to see if it pans out is: I own quite a few SM games and since Rolling Realms could get into my lightweight welcoming game bag there's a non zero chance that it piques some players interest in trying out some of the games. If nothing else its like a little advertisement to get them to play. Hey, wait. Advertisement?! Jamey got us again =O

I've been waiting for the review! I really like it, it's a really fun puzzle every time

Interesting comment about it feeling prototype like. I think the look feels finished to me, but is just a lot more simple than Stonemaier's other products.

I didn’t think it was a negative at all not knowing how one of the original games played in relation to how the card it’s based of is played. I also think there’s an insane amount of potential for new card sets. They already have a planned “ROLLING REALMS card” expansion as well as one for Terra Mystica (through Feuerland who publishes SM’s games) which opens up the possibility of collabs with a other publishers or boardgame content creators (a Dice Tower card set?!?)

I know all the games here, but I never the less are bored with this theme to the max. I also played the free version and it was so uninspiring and all over the place. Not for me...

This is probably my favourite roll and write. I like how simple it is, but also its almost every kind of roll and write in one. Every game will have different puzzles and scoring mechanisms. This also makes it easy to expand. Just really all you need for a fun puzzle with dice.

Is it just me or is the audio strobbing from left to right at 2:57 or so
@boardgameknight27913 жыл бұрын
I listened closely, and don't hear panning from left to right. Might be your setup? You don't hear it before 2:57, though...? That's definitely weird.

The dice we had felt they donenbelong in there and the numbers are harder to see. Would prefer regular dice to be honest.

Sorry Mike but I found the game / rules description very unhelpful. Too rambling. Didn’t get a good understanding at all.

I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. These overviews aren’t meant to be comprehensive, but if you feel like you don’t have any understanding, then I apologize.
@chukniloc3 жыл бұрын
Why you mean too rambling? Each card has it's own "rules". You just assign dice results to a card and then it tells you what happens. Your goal is getting more stars than everyone else.
