I'm now convinced Tom just throws all his components into the box at random in regular life as well.

The key to success in board game reviews is producing enough child laborers to play all these games with :P

Playing this for the first time at our NYE White Elephant party tonight. Thanks for the review, Vasel family. BTW, your kids are adorable, Tom!

I wasn't expecting this to come out as a Vasel family review, but on second thought sure, why not. The game is simple enough to warrant that. We played it three times in a row and had our fun with it. It was especially interesting to see how the pacing of the game may vary depending on how everyone at the table is playing - if everyone's rushing to build wonders it's gonna be a much quicker game than it would be should you go for war, points or science. Still the "if you have the resources to build a stage of the wonder you must do so" rule keeps the game from dragging, which is vital with such a light rule set. Very enjoyable, and great components too.

One point I really like is that box and card holder. That made setting up a game super quick. No need to count number of cards like in 7W or laying down cards like in Duel. This will for sure get a lot of play time in my opinion. The actual wonder piece also a great addition, being able to see your actual progress is neat.

Allright, I thought I could skip this since it is lighter than 7W, but well you made me want it :)

I now inform some of my game purchase choices on the fact that I have a nephew, who is under 10. My sister, his mom, just got this for me for my bday, and I can't wait to play it with him. It is very nice to have a bunch of lightweight games in the collection that I am confident pulling off the shelf, knowing that the family will have fun playing them. Thank you for these reviews, Tom, Violet, and Ruby! I trust and appreciate your family-oriented reviews!

Looks like even though it is simpler there is still a decent amount of strategy and decision making to do. Might look at picking this one up.

Thanks Tom and family for the review. For more experienced players, would you consider this as 7 Wonders the filler game?

Man, you almost had me. I was a click away from the purchase. Luckily, I woke up and realize the wife and I will play this once, then it will collect dust with the other super light games on my shelf of mistakes. Looks good for families though.

As someone who wants more out of their drafting games than 7 Wonders, I was never too big a fan of the original. This? This doesn't occupy the same niche at all, being much closer in spirit to any number of collection race games like Splendor, and I like that on that front I now have something one step up in complexity to share with young people and family members.

I thought this was another expansion which is why it was below my radar. But as a standalone it looks pretty neat

It’s not a ton shorter, but the tech tree aspect of some of the cards is gone which simplifies some of the complexity of the game, which streamlines the thinking significantly. I quite enjoyed it, though.
@g8kpr30003 жыл бұрын
It looks interesting and I can see it’s value as a light game. But I have taught 7 wonders so many times that I can do it in my sleep and feel that if I am going to play a 7 wonders game, the original will be the one. However I can see why a quicker play time would be beneficial.

This version will work well in my casual group and maybe in the future I will get the regular 7 wonders.

A lot of the value in this game is in the 8 and up age recommendation. Heavy/serious gamers are not the target demo for this game.

For two players only, would you choose this or 7W:Duel if you could only buy one? Price point doesn't matter. Let's just say these were the only two board games on the planet and you had to choose one or the other for a 2 player game.. which is the better?

my brain must be tired, I can't imagine how three player game works, where do you put the decks? side note: the cards should be linen finished for the up marked price. deluxe pricing for small casual game with just decent cards.

Not sure how streamlined architects is. It has its own identity from base 7 wonders, but neither ia particularly heavy to wrap your head around.

This seems more like "7 wonders pandemic edition" were drafting games are played less due to all the switching of hands, now each player has it's own contained stuff. Seems cool but maybe too simple
@rb45513 жыл бұрын
Good thing for the review. It should have been called 7 wonder junior or something like it and will likely piss off a lot of people and get mixed reviews but these reviews may help prevent that.
@terrytoriq3 жыл бұрын
Art wise - the wonders look amazing. On the other hand the art on the cards is worthy of gum wrappings. Mechanics wise - for me (who entered the hobby with 7 wonders) this is not a desirable product. It’s nice that exists and can be used as welcoming to the 7 wonders franchise, but definitely is a no- buy for me. Good review. And yes, a lot of mic noice lately. You should look into that. 😉

I might be mistaken, but I don’t recall the designer being mentioned once. And, for the ‘impersonal me’, I’m not the biggest 7 Wonders fan in the world, but I like the art and the family appeal of this game independent of the larger franchise. We love it.

I have played this with all types of gaming groups and it has worked well with all. When I explained it to heavier gaming group they were very resistant. Thirty minutes in they had ordered it online for themselves. They agreed it was very light but thought it was quick and fun an would work well as a filler. Funny thing is we probably played it for about 2 hrs as they kept wanting to have another go and try a new civilisation😆
