Dimebag's solo in "Floods" by Pantera is typically heralded as his greatest and I definitely feel it easily cracks this list. Dude, you're on the money with Tightrope.... that solo at the end is ferocious! In Step was a - no pun intended - a huge step forward for SRV. Would have loved to see what he would've have done next. And his solo(s) on Life Without You (on Live Alive) are gut-wrenchingly beautiful. I certainly would have a different list, but for WatchMojo, not terrible. I mean.... no Boston?

It's crazy during the Randy Rhoads Mr. Crowley part you talked about re-listening to songs specifically solos OVER AND OVER as a youngster, because that was one of my fondest memories as a young musician was that just crazy passionate love that I had for specific parts to music. I also have a distinct memory of re-listening to The Wicked End by Avenged Sevenfold on my CD player and i remembered the time stamp for when the solo started. Do yourself a favor and go to 2:48 of the Wicked End by A7X (i mean the whole song is great but the solo specifically was an underrated masterpiece).

Really ought to be a Boston song on the list. I suggested another but I agree with other comments here “Hitch a Ride”’s dueling 6 strings capture such a transcendent uplifting vibe.. which is archetypal electric guitar. 3/4 of the way in they find a whole new gear which has to be the sound of the spirit breaking free from it’s chains, the sound of pure human liberation!

I know a lot of snobs hate this solo because it “doesn’t fit” but the solo from “Like a Stone” is amazing. Sure it’s not as mellow as the rest of the song, but I would argue it still fits quite well. A perfect solo in so many ways 2) Blackmore - Burn. (good call!) 3) Johnny Winter - so many great ones. 4) Synyster Gates - Buried alive. So good and so hard to play 5) Jim McCarty. Cactus - No Need to Worry 6) Robin Trower - Too Rollin Stoned 7) Of course Gilmore and EVH, but never saw the attraction for Rhodes or Dimebag...

Your assessment of EVH's "Beat It" solo is arse about face dude. It's cart before the horse. The reason it sounds like a composite of Eddie's solos is BECAUSE it's Eddie soloing with all the flair and technique he created. All the techniques and melodies in that solo influenced a whole generation of guitarists. To this day it is one of the few solos that is a pure song within a song. You can hum it from beginning to end.

What makes the Van Halen solo in Beat It so great to me is that Eddie was asked to do a feature, and he was sort of reluctant at first cause it was a pop song and he wasn't really that into MJ and didn't really know a lot about him. He went on to do it in a short session, thinking no one's going to hear it anyway. Little did he know. That, coupled with the absolutely raw sound of it, the incredible close feel and how it just fits perfectly in the song makes it great. It might not be the most intricate or impressive solo, but the sense of melody, pacing, and phrasing he translates through it is astonishing. Seriously, it even sounds great isolated, which is really hard for a solo to do.
