I know everyone is collectively fuming about Celine Dion's exclusion, but can we just talk about the fact that Mike Patton wasn't on here? Mike Patton is possibly THE most versatile vocalist in rock and metal, the way he can essentially change voices on the fly on songs like Mr Bungle's Squeeze Me Macaroni and Faith No More's Land Of Sunshine is genuinely mind blowing, and as much as I love Serj, listening to Mr Bungle shows that he was clearly taking a lot of his style from Patton.

@craigcharlesworth1538 Жыл бұрын
Mike Akerfeld too. Lists like these generally ignore any metal subgenres outside classic 70s metal and maybe NWOBHM which is a shame because there's some incredible vocal work in the extreme subgenres. Even if they'd just included one or two as a nod to those styles I'd have been okay with it.
@AmazingMrMe123 Жыл бұрын
@@craigcharlesworth1538 yeah that's true. But lists like this are inherently impossible to manage, Sissel Kyrkjebø is one of the greatest Norwegian singers of all time, but it feels unreasonable to expect the authors to know who she is, even though her vocal ability is much better than many of the people listed, but if you haven't lived in Scandinavia then you've probably never heard of her. I feel like this problem will always exist, but that it's better to make lists in narrower categories. Like most important singers for rock and roll history, or just singer-songwriters.

As a New Orleans dude, I don’t think John Fogerty was specifically borrowing from black Louisianan musicians. His style and CCR’s aesthetic is like a vague pastiche of black and white/Cajun Louisiana musicians that almost becomes its own thing. Even though his style is a bit appropriative, I still love it because it became original in its own way.
