No Brian Jones, no Stones! What a great talent! So missed, so loved ❤ So good looking!

Brian Jones was a savant. He could play any instrument. He was also an alcoholic and a doper. And when he got drunk, he liked to beat up on women. This is the main reason Mick and Keith drove over to his house one day and told him he was out of the band. Beating up on women. Not good.

Keith played lead to all Chuck Berry. Brian played slide and harp on early tracks, plus played other instruments, composed nothing, Mick did write with Keith, sang, played harp, danced and whipped the crowd into a frenzy, Charlie and Bill were probably the best rhythm section in Britain at the time if not ever. Imagine a Stones without Brian Jones, you don’t have to as he’s been gone for over half a century. Now imagine how far the Stones would have gone without Jagger and Richards……. Not much father than when this video was made in 1964.

I was intrigued by the opening sequence, where the Stones were walking towards Hull. Where was the location? There are some clues a) They are on a major road b) Behind them to their right, is a major right hand road junction. c) Behind them to their left is a steep wooded hill d) Behind them the landscape is wooded e) They are walking up hill. Consulting some sixties maps, indicates that they are walking away from the South Cave junction on the A63, 14 miles from Hull. That is the only major junction of that type in the vicinity of Hull, and the steep wooded hill is nominated “Cliffs” on the Ordance Survey map of the period. The coach they try to flag down isn’t a clue, as it is not in regular service. It is a Bedford OB/Duple, in “Southdown Motor Services” livery, and most likely an excursion coach. Google Street View is of some help, although the A63 is now a dual carriage way, the road has been leveled, and the junction is more complicated. The wooded hill appears less steep, but that may be due to the change in the topography of the road. In the sixties electricity pylons crossed the road further on (still do), but maybe they are obscured by the brow of the hill.

Er, yes. I remember the popular ''Marples Must Go'' stickers you'd see on the back of so many car rear windows at the time. For the life of me, I can't remember why he was so unpopular though. I do, however, remember seeing the Stones at the Watford Gaumont in October '64, just before they went to the States. Usual story - screaming was so loud you couldn't make out the music at all. Main impression was of Keef in the glare of the bright white light, thrusting his guitar from the hip at the crowd in a very sexually suggestive way.

Unlike the Stones, the Beatles didn't have a dancer on stage, like Mick Jagger seen on the footage.
@lilmissrockchick49624 жыл бұрын
At this point, I don't think Mick could play any instruments, so he sang. This gave him a chance to show off his 'James Brown' inspired dance as he didn't have to hold anything. Here the Stones had only 5 members (Mick, Brian, Bill, Keith, Charlie) and the Beatles of course had only 4 members, so I would say having a larger group would obviously have room for a dancer.
