The rawest and best performance of Gimme Shelter ever. Every member of the band is to thank for this one, Keith's guitar is sounding dirtier and deadlier than it ever did, the tone he's getting out of that guitar is absolutely ferocious, sounds like its going to crack every bone in your body. Bill Wyman's bass is launching a deep and murderous vibration cutting through the music. Charlie is smashing his drums like he had never done before, the symbols crashing almost every beat is amazing. Mick T's guitar sounds like a banshee whaling over the top of every other instrument and Mick Jagger is screaming like it's the last song he's ever going to be able to sing... it's chilling, not many songs and performances can capture a time and a place quite like this particular performance. I'd normally say this song is heaven on earth but this is hell on earth and I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Altamont was rock's darkest day. It closed the 60's with destruction and death. The greedy Glimmer Twins wanted to make a movie, hired the fucking Hells Angels, and watched as their fans were beaten by the thugs they hired. They took no responsibility for any of it. Richards planned this terrible idea with a friend of the Dead.
@ten10strips856 жыл бұрын
Guitar Player That's a bunch of bullshit, Hells Angels had been doing security in N. California since the very first outdoor festival when they escorted Jefferson Airplane to Mt. Tam, which was a week or so BEFORE Monterrey Pop. It all started when Kesey had them up to La Honda for a party, dosed everybody up and let the freak unfold. Very different politically, a shared outlaw spirit nevertheless developed between the Hells Angels and the Haight Ashbury freaks. Shared neighborhoods too. Jerry Garcia sums it up nicely in the documentary "Hells Angels on Wheels," I think it's called, from 1973 or 1975, thereabouts, look it up yourself if you give a fuck, I can't be bothered. Regard the cover artwork of the Big Brother and the Holding Company album. No bands trusted cops or wanted them at their shows. tl;drp: ~298,000 people had a good enough time at Altamont. AT NO TIME WAS ANYONE FORCED TO STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING STAGE WHERE THE HELLS ANGELS, AS SECURITY, WERE REQUIRED TO BE. The black guy drew a .22 revolver. He lunged toward the stage and was stabbed twice by a member of security. Had it been a cop, there likely would have been a fucking gunfight in the middle of the crowd.
