The kicking the stall thing comes from Muddy Waters. And it's "a big bass drum." Though "big red drum" might be even better.

@@Frisbieinstein Mick doesn't always use the same lyrics ... in this song it's bass drum ... but I've heard him use red, which is better ... "Girl w/ the faraway eyes" and "Can't always get what you want has lyric enhancements" also some lines are inaudible on purpose according to Keith's book "Life" ... He said the listener can fill in his version or maybe we just forgot the lyrics, which is understandable considering their catalogue ... lol .. thanks for responding

As usual, Keith was late to a recording session, and the rest of the band was working on a riff that was going nowhere fast. @Leebo Leigh honestly as much of a Led Zep freak as I admittedly am, Jagger invented the band “front man” as far as I’m concerned. There are solo artists as dynamic, with Bowie, Tina Turner and many others being absolutely captivating. That opening riff kills me, and they can't leave it alone. Why would they? It remains in my blood to the end. It is perfect 'Bitchcraft!'

Mick Taylor's influence on this song is subtle yet you can't have the same experience with out it..Keith's lead riff is one of my favorite s of his.

Yeah same here. The only Beatles album I can really get into still is Revolver. I just gotta playthrough that one every once in a while. Great weed-smokin album.

The best band on the planet, Charles at the back driving the song. Bill just stands knowing he is the man, Mick and Keith on those axes playing the best stones sound you’ll get. Jagger got the beat at his feet. As Pete Townsend said” it will always be the Stones for me” make that two

I wonder why Mick Taylor left the band. He certainly was an excellent guitarist. Love the Rolling Stones. This song is a real mover, shaker, full of energy and great musicianship.

Taylor has cited various reasons over the years. Initially, he left to join Jack Bruce’s band, which was more jazz-rock/progressive and antithetical to the Stones sound. In interviews, he said he was, musically, bored with the Stones and not growing as a musician, referring to being tired of playing guitar like a saxophone. Later, he claimed the lifestyle was too much and that his drug addiction was going to kill him. (Ironically, Taylor spent much of the 1980s strung out on heroin.) Lastly, some have asserted his increasing disgruntlement over his lack of songwriting credits, especially on tracks Keith Richards had no involvement in writing. My guess is that there's truth in all of the above reasons, but Taylor had also become unbearably difficult and arrogant. Glyn Johns had this to say about Taylor following Exile on Main St. (1972): “He turned from being a quiet, softly spoken, charming young man into a raving egomaniac junkie.” Taylor likely thought the Stones were on the brink of collapse heading into 1975, especially given their drug problems and growing disconnect. He purportedly loathed how they worked in the studio and found it “laborious” to get the entire band together.

For moments like 2:30 is that I adore Charlie. Those times were amazing, weren't they? The whole band gave everything there, and it's one of my favorite eras from the Stones ❤️
