This is one of my favorites. No matter who does a cover, none will ever possess the same emotional depth, grit, and intensity as the original. Even though some more vocally experienced and "perfected" vocalists have tried to reinvent this song, none can surpass the delivery of Mick's vocals and Keith's guitar.

Showed a a bunch of notebook paper with scribbled down songs that the “Stones were to start off playing in each set in the movie portraying their lives in between each few songs and the amount of songs and lists and lists on the front and back sides of each page was tremendous!!!!!!!!!!! Just saw my post from 9 years ago, wow. Was watching this, and one thing is for sure and it is that more than ANY band I can think of, The Stones have sure the hell stood the test of time, and it is completely amazing that they were playing on the bill with acts like Bill Haley and Little Richard waaaay back in 1963, and they are still around now. Along with the music what I like is they own it. I have never heard any one of them complain about the harshness of the rock n roll life or their drug problems, and they were right in the epicenter in EVERY era. Now that's something!

I was in that very control room at MSS some years ago. It's very small; this was just before it was repurchased & renovated by MSS originators Jimmy Johnson & David Hood, leaders of the original Swampers. In 2013 the studio/building was set up for recording - after being unused since the 1970s but was still in the original unrenovated condition. A few years after c.2014-15 was when it purchased and renovated by Johnson. I toured the entire studio, vocal booth, drum booth, main room, basement & hung out there for a few hours with two other musicians - just us. The original control room was basically intact as seen in the Gimme Shelter film - which is what we're seeing here. The original walnut wall siding, 1960s-70s furniture & photographs were still in the studio probably in the same place they were left in the 1970s. Many of the chairs were the same chairs that had been in studio for decades. The two musicians I was with brought in & set up vintage recording equipment & console - some of it used in 2009 lp Brothers by the Black Keys, which was then the last #1 album recorded at MSS. There is a small bathroom just off the main studio room next to the drum booth. Above the bathroom door is the original toilet seat used by all your favorite music legends in the 1960s-70s. Oddly just off the small control room is a tiny entry way with a door that opens directly out to the parking lot. The place is very small. The vibe is very large. Quite amazing experience.

I love this version from Gimme Shelter. Of course I love anything from the Stones. This one is cool because it is early in the production process and they haven't dubbed in the backing vocals. It's just Mick's single lead vocal throughout. Kind of a unique sound to it. Also, you gotta love Keith's boots. Long live Keef!!!
