That's amazing that they can carry this tempo and play so well. I can't believe someone gave this a 'thumbs-down".

It is obvious that this Band program must have a history of great leadership and consistency in high caliber performances...these students are playing well above average and should be commended for their fine playing...kudos

@blantsq Thank you for your comments. I am also a trombone player and it took me forever to be able to play this. Also thanks for drawing my attention to those other comments, as for some reason I didn't see them before.

We're playing a slightly harder version of this in 7th and 8th grade honor band. Like at 0:25 the flutes and clarinets keep playing the shrills and stuff but it isn't that much different. Plus we can't play nearly as fast as these people. :D

haha this is gonna be fun. i'm in my middle school's varsity band and we're playin this for UIL. i feel sorry for french horns. i have the fun part (bass clarinet has same as trombone). i've gotta say. pretty good, although during some of the points in the song, it sounds a bit rushed.

I am researching this piece for my Ensemble literature class at my university, and was first a little skeptical when I saw the size of the band and found myself thinking "I don't want to hear a tiny high school band" I quickly put my foot in my mouth. This band sounds quite good, I'm very impressed, I play trombone and I know what that part demands, I'm disappointed in this strand of comments. Were this a terrible performance, which it is not, music education should always be constructive.

...dayum...lol That goes for the woodwind section, too. The flutes especially... don't know what they had before but in the first half of the piece they're playing louder than everyone else... But what's fuked up about it is that they're not at all supposed to be playing that loud... But must be nice to have a strong WW section. 5 stars *****

Amazing! Very very cool. I dont know why people are attacking the trombone technique! Its all there, just not as clean as the DWS, which is understandable, considering the group is a high school band. Theres an old trick the pros would use when playing crazy circus marches at tempos 200+ : Have a phenom bone player tounge every single note The bone next to him, play as written Bone next to him, if possible, play legato. That way, you get both the meat and articulation of all the notes.

I'm pretty sure that's not true, given that Henry Fillmore was a trombone player who only hid his trombone playing because his dad considered the instrument "uncouth and sinful." That's what I read somewhere, anyway...

Technically, damn near flawless.. But I felt hardly any musicality in the piece, marches can be musical too ;)

that was to fast for that band. anybody can play a song fast and slur everything. no separations in the phrasing. just one blah sound.

hey, troops HAVE had to march at this speed. i remember when this was played in band in high school. mr. hand. (one of our former band directors, that drunkard bastard) kept telling the audience how hard the trombones had to pracitce...240 cut time!!! i played tube, so that wasn't my problem, lol. but very good job, though. it looks like i remeber our band playing the end differently. hmmm...
