What marks a true professional is that you do not just pick up the wreck, but you do your best to pick up all the bits that fell off (and that other-wise pollute the local environment) at the same time. Respect.

That would make good demonstration about the importance of the center of gravity on bigger jobs. Lift it from front set of doors and then back set of doors and show the difference between the two with the way it leans forward or back depending on where you grab it.

Man in my state drop offs like that would have guardrail's... especially on a two lane highway. Great work!
@christopherlovelock91047 жыл бұрын
What's everyone complaining about, - after all the vehicle is intended for "off road" use. Seriously though a 'guard rail' on a drop like that would be sensible, but on the other hand show me a 'sensible' road authority, - in our Country (UK) they put 'rails' where they are not needed and don't put them where they are..... !!!!!!!! Always enjoy your videos.

Great channel Ron. Think I've watched them all in the last 48 hours. One suggestion- Ever thought about buying your guys a harness that you could hook on to the boom? Ron great recovery ,I notice that different tow company's have different types of hooks on the winch lines .there's one that stays closed when you apply pressure to the winch line,have you ever used that style or have you ever considered getting that style on any of your recovery vehicles ?Thank You for the great video ,and you and your crew please be safe .
@RonPratt8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I actually have that style hook on our Ford rollback and I love it. They are much safer and don't get snagged on anything. However, they are very expensive. On the rollback, it doubled the price of the cable just by ordering it with that hook installed. Eventually, I would like to swtch all of my hooks over.

Just wondering if you know what a shackle is. I have watched a couple of your vids and you seem to some hard pulling on a continuous loop attached just to the cable hook. Try using a triangle shackle so the loop can flatten out like its supposed to and you may save yourself some heartache.
@RonPratt8 жыл бұрын
Actually I use shackles quite frequently. Probably not as often as I should... Thanks for the suggestion though. Keep watching and you will see me using them. God Bless
@jaratt854 жыл бұрын
You know, in occasions such as this, you really should have a climbing harness and make Talon put it on and clip him to the cable and just hang him over the edge and slowly lower him down to rig it up.

Have you ever had a roof crease from lifting a vehicle like that?
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have. I use wider straps or a different lift point if I think there is a chance the vehicle is not going to be total loss. If, as this one was, it appears to be a total loss, this is the quickest method of recovery.
@Quadflash8 жыл бұрын
Solid, safe lift. That would have been tough with a "normal" rig.

Ideally people shouldn't be driving vehicles off the road but i suppose a guard rail wouldn't hurt.
@thephantom14927 жыл бұрын
The other day I was following a river. It mostly didn't have any rail because you could see that every time there was more than maybe 10ft between the road and the river there was no rail, so as soon as one section wasn't 'needed' they didn't installed it. I found that to be very ridiculous and very dangerous, specially at 80km/h... And I'm in quebec, so ice.

don't mean to criticize, but why wouldn't you use two slings to lift that svu by the roof. it seems that would have had greater stability and would have put less force on the a pillars. two slings would have distributed the load across all of the pillars. just asking.
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
No problem. We already knew that the vehicle was a total loss, so we used the quickest way possible to recover it. More time on the roadway creates more risk. You are correct that two straps or even one wide strap, which we use at times, would have less stress on the roof. Thanks for watching and God bless.
