When Cole started backstroking on his own, I teared up. A quadriplegic who became so as a result of a diving accident...SWIMMING INDEPENDENTLY!!!! I'm so inspired by how this young man has turned his tragedy into triumph as he continues to conquer his fears and embrace life with gusto. I couldn't be prouder of Cole and Charisma if they were my own. Love it!🥲

I've been a paraplegic for 37 years, since I was 21, and there is nothing more freeing to me than swimming and floating. It's the one thing I can do without a wheelchair. And I imagine that it's even more freeing for a quadriplegic. It was so exciting just watching Cole floating and backstroking!! I'm so proud of him. And happy he and Charisma enjoy traveling and going on adventures together! They are such a beautiful couple. ❤

I'm glad to see how much fun you are having swimming! Though it would have been helpful to see how Cole got out of the pool. Reverse of how he got in? My husband is hemiplegic and we also go to the one pool in town that has a lift he can use, but when we're traveling, a lot of pools don't have one so he doesn't swim.

Great job Cole. I'm a C6 quad that loves time in the pool. I use 20 inch inflatable pool rings. I put my arms through them and they rest in my arm pits keeping my head above water and my feet and legs keep me vertical. Water gives me the freedom to move easily and the rings let me float for hours unassisted. I've been doing it this way for 25 years and my family trusts me in the pool by myself. Keep exploring. I'm a huge fan of your channel and Shane and Hanah.

If this was Cole's first time in a pool (eventually floating totally on his own ) BRAVO !!! I always thought that the freedom of fully floating outstretched in a pool of water would feel exhilarating for a quadriplegic .!! Was this first time for Cole in a pool ? For starters there needed to be a much ,MUCH longer conversation between Charisma and Cole as to how ,when and what precisely they would do as a team for Cole to feel as confident as possible. This had to be terrifying for him. At first the entire process was not well thought out and I'm pretty sure Cole was terrified. he immediately wanted to go back to the bench. I am thrilled he actually gave it another try. It should have been much less awkward from the get go. None the less he DID it. What a courageous accomplishment to check off all the things disabled bodies can do that able bodied people take for granted. he's gone from ski slopes to swimming pools. I taught swimming lessons to 5 year olds for 6 years (5 classes a week for 6 weeks .)The goal was getting them to float on their own. I hope eventually Cole enjoyed it. Maybe if a certified instructor and Cole worked together in a pool before the vacation and Charisma learned how to help it may have allayed Cole's fear. It all got off to a shaky start but once again Cole's bravery overcame his fear. I truly hope it felt good Cole. But I have no idea since if you have no feeling below your neck how would you describe being afloat in a body of water and out of a chair and laying above anything other than water. Hope you had a great vacation!
