😊 I was working the theater when this movie came out, late 2001, it and a few others had to be delayed in release due to 9/11 and editing out scenes of the Towers....😢 I watched this movie almost as many times as I watched the first Harry Potter in the theater, it was free. 😂 A lot of people came to watch this movie to unwind from the stress of those months. It was very therapeutic for the times. We needed these laughs then, and always. 😂

Great reaction, Ollie. I came here to say what I thought everybody would be saying. Maybe it is because it is SO obvious that it got overlooked, but... if you like film, which you do, and you've never seen Tropic Thunder , which Stiller also wrote, directed, and stars in, that should really be a high priority. It is a comedy as well. I happen to love that movie, but in addition to me loving it and thinking it is very funny, it is also extremely culturally relevant. Great channel, and keep up the great work!

There's something about Mary and Meet the parents are other good Ben Stiller comedies.

As someone thats a little older I can explain the joke about the small cell phone. Cell phones were large in the 90s but they progressively got smaller and smaller so the joke is that they have the "newest" phone which means it's also really small.🙂

When you said you weren’t alive or were just an infant when this came out…my heart sunk a little. I was 11 when this came out and was already starting to become a HUGE David Bowie fan so he was the only reason I rented this in the first place; but it’s obviously a comedy classic that holds so much nostalgia for me

YAY, Ollie did ZOOLANDER!!! Great reaction! My lil story. This came out right after 9/11, and people weren't going to movies (least where I was). Our town had a tiny movie theater, one screen, tucked away in the biggest mall. Hardly anyone knew it was there and never understood how it stayed open. Every first showing of any movie for that day was always $1. $1!!! AND, the staff were all teens who didn't GAF, so you could just see the 10am for $1, not leave the theater, buy another coke, and see the same movie at noon and 2 all for the same buck. As long as you bought SOMETHING they didn't care if you saw the same movie three times that day for $1. (But all showings after six an adult manager was there, so fun and games had to stop) SO. I was self-employed when 9/11 happened, and my business dried up along with my funds, and I had time on my hands. Zoolander came out, I saw it, and declared this the greatest comedy of all time, which I still hold (personally fav anyway). So I saw it three times a day the entire run, and I was the ONLY person watching it at 10am over 100 times. 300+ times in that theater, and thousands of times on VHS, then DVD, then streaming. Kept me sane at a hard time!!! So yeah, when I saw you just watched it, oh boy!!!

Trivia - the Mugatu name an appearance is based on the Mugato, the ape/unicorn/yeti monster in an Original Star Trek (TOS) episode "A Private Little War". There are very few movies I like Will Ferrell in, but this one and Elf are two of them.

It is a fun movie. I didn’t see it when it came out either, I think I saw it for the first times about five years ago, but I’m 50 so I remember all the celebrities who had cameos. What hit me about how old this is was that Apple computer. I remember those and what a big deal they were. Everyone talked about them and wanted one and they were the Next Big Thing and then flatscreen came out. Almost overnight computers went flat, tvs went flat, all the Diet Coke went flat, alright that last one was an exaggeration but there was a time when the top of the line computers looked like candy apples…

I wouldn't say it's the funniest movie I've ever seen but I would put it in my top 5. They are, in no particular order... Tropic Thunder The Hangover Zoolander This Is Spinal Tap Kingpin

"But why male models?" "Are you serious? I just told you that a moment ago." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Heidi Albertsen and Melania Trump. Family Affair Fact: Ben Stiller had several family members in this film. His wife, Christine Taylor, his father, Jerry Stiller, his mother Anne Meara, his sister Amy Stiller, and his brother-in-law, Mitch Winston. Cameos Cameos Fact: Victoria Beckham, Sandra Bernhard, Malan Breton, Emma Bunton, Stephen Dorff, Ethan Higbee, Karl Lagerfeld, Gavin Rossdale, Winona Ryder, Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Natalie Portman, Donatella Versace, and Billy Zane appears as themselves. Casting Notes Fact: Ben Stiller wrote David Bowie's scene as judge of the walk-off into the script without knowing for sure whether he would agree to it. Ben Stiller wrote the part of Hansel specifically for Owen Wilson, and said that no one else was even considered for the role. Making Lemonade Fact: Derek's repetition of the line "But why male models?" for the second time, in the cemetery scene, was an ad-lib by the actors; Ben Stiller forgot his line and simply repeated the earlier line again, and David Duchovny ran with it and gave him a straight answer.

“Why are there so many famous ppl in this movie ?” Ben Stiller has been in the bizness for decades. He knows a lot of people. The Ben Stiller Show from the 90’s stars Saul, from Better Call Saul, fer pete’s sake. Andy Dick played the bigbooty masseuse was also in The Ben Stiller Show. Stiller and Winona Ryder had decent success early on in Reality Bites. As you said the words about the writer of this movie being on crack, the crazy looking dj was onscreen aka Evil DJ aka Justin Theroux, Stiller’s writing partner. Out of makeup, he’s considered incredibly handsome. He cameoes as Evil DJ in Tropic Thunder.

“Princess Leia hair buns” are not exclusive to her. They were a popular hairstyle in Europe in the Alpine region a hundred years ago for sure. They make me think of lederhosen and Austrian accents. 😂 okay maybe I have a biased American view because of The Sound of Music.
