I have never seen a wrestler show worse sportsman ship in my 30plus years in the sport. His coach should be ashamed he didn't bench him sooner. I though Iowa was better than that. Defending his outright assholery because it "brought people into the sport" is blazingly stupid

Such a good match. At 35 secs left DeSanto makes that subtle whip/shuck attempt/fake, just enough movement for RBY to grab that leg. That's all it took to decide the match, razor thin difference in styles really.

The difference as I see it is RBY stays relaxed and is able to react with tremendous speed on counter attacks as a result. Iowa wrestlers push and pull and push some more. Seldom relaxed and that takes a lot of energy and sometimes sends a telegram to the opponent regarding where you are and where you plan to be next.

However I watched every match from Pac12/Big 10/ Big 12 and D2 Nationals, Live 5 miles from NJCAA powerhouse Clackamas CC in Oregon, watch them all the time. I'm just reporting what I see, Hawkeyes losing in similar fashion IMO injury, gassed, not changing game plan, no off season 🤔. I'm all ears?

What in the world was that at 1:18? Post their hand on the mat and then step on it? Oof. Other than that Desanto put up a solid effort against RBY this time. Still wrestled a bit cautiously it seemed (for Desanto anyway) although maybe that's respect for RBY's ability as a counter wrestler. That said though Desanto has nothing to hang his head over for this match. Losing on a takedown in the last couple seconds against the defending national champ in the semis isn't anything to sniff at.

I’d rather watch desanto wrestle any day of the week.

Say whatever you want about DeSanto, he made this sport fun to watch. This sport needs more people like him.

Stepping on fingers and cheap shots are not what the sport needs.

Desanto at his BEST is still 2 steps behind in terms of talent

How many times does desanto have to lose the EXACT SAME WAY to figure it out man. Love his intensity but RBY has beat him with the same gameplan 6 matches straight

Guys like these are the reason Nick Suriano quit wrestling after he quit Penn State (Gilman) and quit Rutledge (Fix).

I really thought Austin was.going to get it done.. I was on the edge of my seat.. Then the last 30 secs, I was like that spacing seems weird. RBY is the better scrambler.. Then boom gets it done...

Desanto seems to find a way to lose these close matches against top wrestlers. Love watching his energy, but it's frustrating when you want the dude to win.

I’d be saying this a year ago, I hated desanto every year of college he wrestled but he got me this year. Tho I only recently began to like him, it still hurts seeing all the work and dedication he’s put in shatter like that, like him or not.

Why spoil the outcome in the title. That is insanely illogical.

If he had been the 3 seen he would have faced fix who beat him this year and in all the previous matches. He may have got the wrong seed but he was going to have a tough time making the finals no matter what seed he got.
