Nonsens. Były znacznie ważniejsze bitwy w historii o których dzisiaj mało kto pamięta-- poza grupą specjalistów. Bitwa przypomniana i rozreklamowana w XIX wieku - epoce romantyzmu i nacjonalizmu.

Great Video! Two small gripes, the Romans at this time barely, if at all, used the segmented armor. Chain-mail was still the preference for most. I also saw some roman cavalry and germans using the Nieder Bieber helmets, something that only really cropped up centuries after teutoburg. Aside from that, this was a good video, cant wait till the next one.

There are at least two, main mistakes that led to the Roman defeat. Arminius knew Roman tactics and he knew that he couldn’t have won against the Roman legions on an opened battlefield. The Romans were led by Arminius into the ambush. The path on which the Roman legions marched was very narrow because on the right side there were swamps. The film doesn’t mention of a very important feature, the very long palisade that the tribesmen built on the left side of the Roman marching troops. Thus the Romans couldn’t manoeuvre like in an open battlefield and were slaughtered piecemeal. The site of the battle for many years was thought to be almost at the most eastern part of the Teutoburg forest, more or less where the tall statue dedicated to Arminius is now to be found. Actually, the findings of the palisade, coins and even a Roman knight helm showed where the actual site was. It’s more west and the place is called Kalkrise.

I know that one of my ancestors who immigrated to the U.S. was of Saxon descent (as proven by archival material). I can only imagine to what extent my Saxon ancestors were involved in this battle. (My Alsatian ancestors were probably of Alemanni descent. The Alemanni fought the Romans too and later fought the Franks.)
