Join me at Living Latin in New York City 2024! Use this link to get $50 off the $180 registration fee: www.paideiainstitute.org/llinyc_registration_payment_speakers I don't get any money if you sign up, but I'm happy to be able to offer my audience such a huge discount to this one-of-a-kind event. Nōs vidēbimus illīc! See you there! ERRATA At 3:37, I said "Tiberim" but I think "Rubicōnem" would have made more sense, since that was what Julius Caesar's 13th Legion was so famous for doing. While I had practiced my talk beforehad and knew what I was going to say, I did not memorize it verbatim, so you're hearing me speak Latin fluently from my head as I would speak about these topics in English (and thus errors and gaffs can occur, as in any fluently spoken language). 13:25 For some reason I say "pilum" (with a short vowel) instead of "pīlum," apparently confusing the word with "pilus," meaning a hair. Many thanks to my friend Metatron, who inspired me to learn about the Lorica Segmentata. See this video of his on the Lorica Segmentata that I helped him translate into Latin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onvUkJ9sfs2maMU

Por eso, se llaman lenguajes de la pasión. 😛

I like how you accentuate important points with hand gestures and speak Latin intensely and emotionally. It's not unlike hearing modern Italian and Spanish being gestured and spoken by current speakers in their respective nations. No doubt that part of the Roman influence has lasted all these centuries via the speech patterns and gestures (and helps with the authenticity- to say nothing of keeping the audience ready for more)!

I found two old leatherbound Latin books from 1914 Malden Massachusetts and I've been having a hell of a time with the pronunciation because I don't have any kind of instructor. Listening to your videos has helped me out tremendously. I didn't realize that V is always pronounced as W for example. Gratias Luke.

This was great to watch! I have always wanted to re-enact Imperial Rome, however my passion has been WW2 for over 30 years. One day I will put together a Roman kit with lorica squamata and Italic d helm. I always liked the Signifer look. Gloria ad Romam!

Latin certainly sounds awesome. He's just giving lecture and he sounds epic. No wonder their war time speeches could convice people to fight to the death.
