So color dosn't matter as much as size? What's the water clarity you fish? If clear you you always target cover - eg. Grass, Docks, wood?

BassGeek for me swimming action seems to be a bigger factor than color. Stained water I might go with a bright white for flash or really dark for silhouette. And clear which is what I mainly fish i throw fairy natural patterns. Trout. Shad. Gill etc. I target wherever I think the fish are staged or will be staging. My little home lake isn't a great representation for big lake patterns. It's small and shallow and they are almost always on docks or rocks

Not to wear my staff positions on my sleeve and down what you said at all man. I love my Ardent Apex Magnum I got it well before I got on staff with them. It's $170 retail but I've thrown everything from weightless plastics like the optimum boom boom to a Deps 250! Sadly don't have trout anywhere near me but we've got huge shad and I can do pretty well when those shad are active. Nice vid as always man!

I was at T-Bar this weekend. Monday morning that storm you were talking about rolled through at 3AM. Fantastic Thunder and Lightning show. Don't get to see that much home in Socal. i like my hd for up to around 6 oz. after that it feels slightly labored on the retrieve with glides and issues engaging the thumb bar with heavy heavy baits hanging off of it.

Hey Swimbait Chronicles I just got into swimbait fishing and am going to by a Huddleston 68 6'. I am going to be bottom bouncing it most of the time and was wondering if you suggest a RFO 5 or a RFO 12. Thanks keep up the awesome videos

well a 5 obviously takes longer to get down. but once its down it comes up and over cover easier than a 12 does because of its lighter weight. the 12 gets down there pretty quick but can get hung up a little easier. id say look at two things then decide. how deep you'll be fishing, and what's on the bottom. rocks, trees, silt, standing timber, then decide from there.

Hi , love your vids, using such big baits for largies do you get much unwanted muskie attention or from pike or other predators? and having lost a few big lures to crack offs myself , how do you feel about losing a lure you paid a ton of money for ? or do you look at it primarily as a tool for catching fish and secondly a work of art.(if i lost a 50 dollar lure id be inconsolable never mind one costing between 200 and 400 dollars lol )

Chas WEST we don't have toothy guys around me. So I don't worry about it to much. I try and throw a lure like this like I would a 20$ lure. And put the cost out of my mind. I've yet to lose one of my expensive Lures. But it will happen one day. Try to block it out when fishing otherwise I don't put it where it needs to go.

im looking to purchase the new tran x 400 but they only have the 7.2.1 gear ratio avaible at bass pro would that be to high of gear ratio for big swimbaits

jon garrigus no I don't think so at all. I think it's perfect for hard baits like glides and swimmers. And you can always slow down for soft bats. I'm looking at the same reel right now. It looks like the new staple of sb fishing. As long as they start offering the 400 with the option of a paddle handle it'll be great

this wont be thrown on my little home pond/lake. this is only for the big waters. and as far as the color way, i just like it the best. the swim and size on the mother is 90% of the attraction. i have a full vid on the A3 and i love it so far for anything up to around 7 oz.s

i meant as far as any lake/ pond that doesnt stock trout, can you throw trout swimbaits like a hud or bbz. My lake is similar to yours so i was curious. As far as the A3 ive seen your video multiple times. You mentioned having the reel for 2 weeks. Its been long now, have you been able to test her out more?

+mike kusicki yeah i throw trout pretty much everywhere and it gets bit. Usually I'll look into what's local forage and base my core baits around that then build off it . I've noticed that with bigger baits it's more of the action or profile than color way a lot of times. That's not to say color doesn't always matter. But I've gotten bit in lakes where they've never seen a trout. And yeah I've thrown the A3 a lot now. It's a great reel. Still super smooth. Casts a mile and the drag is great. Only thing I've noticed it laboring a bit with big big Lures 7oz and up. It throws them but the thumb bar is a little harder to engage and it just feels like it's working to hard but I absolutely love it for 6oz and under.

The toss up is between the lexa 300HD and this A3..still leaning towards lexa.. i have the older 300 and its starting to kick out of gear randomly so im alittle worried on purchasing another

plutoplatters anyone who throws big baits day in and out will definitely get it. 125 is a steal especially for a shimano round reel. Average retail of any shimano worth its salt is 250-600$ all day long with the Cardiff being the most budget friendly at 129.

not sure if ya missed the name of the channel. lol but for real.... whats normal tackle? the channel and myself are 100% dedicated to big baits. id rather zero than throw a worm. thats not a knock on you or anyone that throws conventional gear at all or a snarky comment, but those of us that only throw big baits have a bit of a different mind set regarding bass fishing.. im ok with going days, months without a bite knowing the next one could be a record. and where im going in florida is specifically managed for trophy bass. lake record is 15.6 with regular 10's and teener's

You can still fish swimbaits anywhere in the country and be successful. Hell I live in MA and a fish over 8 is almost unheard of for most guys. But there are still guys that throw the bigger baits and catch fish. Now maybe a 12" mother is a little overkill for my area but I'm sure if you stuck with it you could still stick a few on it.

TheBushwooky my buddy in Maine caught a 3 on the mother, so yeah it's doable like you said.
