Trying to figured how to put it on Facebook. 7.25 inch real prey forage trout. Top hook... Silver Lake Athol Massachusetts. WoW. what a day. There was no tick it HAMMERED IT !!! She was full of eggs. It looked like a softball in its belly. 1 week ice off. Thank You guys .

so true on the 3rd method you speak of. biggest bass i ever hooked and saw was the same. on fly, sneaky pete just bobbing it in the same spot by giving the slightest of strips and she comes beneath to inspect and almost "smells" the fly. a few quick, short striips and she was on! ....for a second, way too small a hook for that big of a fish! damn, a maddening strike

Hey Matt and Tim, could you please give me a general rule of thumb in regards to what ROF to use for each depth? 5ft? 10ft? 15ft? In this instance I am talking about the slow creeping retrieve.
@Ozzierob5 жыл бұрын
i agree :) all the way from Australia
@tucowept5 жыл бұрын
ROF 12 for most, 80% of your stuff, If I were to slow crawl 5 ft I would go rof 5, deeper than 30 rof 16. good luck.
@drewfarmer78018 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I've had a hud for a while but never really knew if I was throwing it right or not. When your crawling that thing that slow especially with a 5:1:1 it doesn't lay over on its side? That is why I can't wrap my head around that crawl. I just always feel like I'm imitating a dead fish being drug around. lol. Thanks again Matt! You guys rock!

hudds are designed to stand straight up like a trout restimg on the bottom.
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
That's why you're throwing a hudd or other high quality swimbait (we linked to some others in the video description) if you're using a knock off they'll lay on their sides. The high quality baits lay upright on bottom and look great at super slow speed. :-)
@kyledempsey72905 жыл бұрын
I use it as a wake bait often. Reeling medium speed with a high rod tip.
@lojofishing8 жыл бұрын
Are there any special considerations to take with regards to these swimbaits when using them in the southeastern US where the water is notoriously murky or stained?
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
When that water is dark, slow is generally better. Although the bait doesn't have much movement the water displacement will help them find it.

the jerkbait description on the final retrieve is perfect. i used to fish the original LC Flash Minnow in clear water in NY. i could see bass come up and track it and i would just kill it. the bass wouldn't move an inch. maybe drift downards under it. then, without fail, giving a couple quick reels would make those bass commit to grabbing it.

I bought a Hudd rod and I have an old garcia 6500C on it but casting is not what I like. I have been looking at the Diawa Lexa 400HD because of what I have been reading and watching on KZbin. I fish from the bank so I need castability and a deep spool so what I hear this is the one. Is it hype or the real deal? I am fishing (well not yet...health issues) for mainly Striper, Bass and Catfish. Is it worth 300 bucks?

So my big question is if I am throwing one or the other, what would you say is the major difference in retrieval? Thank you so much for your time and knowledge of bass fishing and keep up the good work Matt!!!!!
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
The S-Waver is much more "reactive" meaning you do those things much more often to the bait. The huddleston, even when you're trying to be really reactive will only be done 2, maybe 3 times in the entire cast.

Thanks for all your info
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
We could probably do that. Main difference though is torque. Its not about storing line, its about being able to turn a giant's head that one time that you really need to so she doesn't come off.

But it is a very clear lake and m not sure what to use as a leader. 17 or 20 fluro too light for a 6 or 8inch hudd? Boy, looking for this episode I realized how much content you got out there Matt n Tim. I don't think anyone in the industry can even come close to the vid time you've logged thats purely out of love for the art. Shit thats real cannot be denied. The whole industry will end up here eventually. Without TB I could have missed out on a lot of good memories. Thank you!

I was looking to get the ROF #5 but I see its not rigged with hooks. Or that is my understanding. Do you guys have a video on how you set up the bait itself? The size and style hook(s) etc. Oh and great video on the retrieves.

The ROF 5 with jig hook exists but they're really hard to find. We typically just get the ROF 12 and call it good. We don't have a full rigging video but we'll probably do one soon.

Do you guys do the "Butch Brown rigging" of any other sort of hook modifications to these? I think I remember watching an older video where you said you leave the hook alone, but I'm not sure.

Yeah they don't like the stinger hooks, they say it's better to leave the jig hook on

Jeffrey nailed it. We throw the bare jig hook, you're so much better off. Without going into all the details I'll just say that I don't agree with the BB rigging method. The solid jig hook is a phenomenal option. -Matt

Everyone talks about top-water blow up's but they aren't anything like a bass hitting the Megabass Magdraft 6'' swimbait.

Hey mat big fan I'm from Wisconsin I wanna throw one of these my lake has lake trout so what is a good color and depth to target around this time ? That's one thing I can't figure out what depths to throw and colors to use ?

Just chuck it shallow and treat it like a big spinnerbait this time of year. Go with regular rainbow trout, they won't be that picky its just an easy meal.

Great Info! i learned a lot. which rod are you using in this video?

Sorry for all the questions but just one more please lol. Is the rainbow trout color good for places that have no trout?
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Here on Clearlake we have no trout but they're still willing to eat it.

Slow as you can go then slow down some more! If I feel a ticking strike or a fish bump I don't slow down or speed up my retrieve I'll stay there as long as possible without stopping hoping to piss them off. If I have followers (a sign of more active fish) I'll make a second cast covering the same area and use an occasional side sweep flick n pause retrieve that induces an about-face to my swim bait. One other retrieve that I like to use, is None!! A dead-stick or drifting floaty in clear water over a tapering point or drop off or a shallow weed bed shoreline.

You have more patience than me... I HATE deadsticking! I've caught my share of fishing doing it but man I hate it! I'd rather stare at a bobber lol

+TacticalBassin lmao I hear you! I usually swimbait when the conditions are right and I'm by myself. If I'm swimbait fishing with somebody else they usually want to throw me in the water. Especially my son who is a cranking maniac! lol

Great video Matt! Question, in another video you talked about for shad lakes you recommend the JSJ Hitch 6. Do you still think that is the best soft bodied swimbait for shad lakes or is there another you would recommend?
@tacticalbassin8 жыл бұрын
That is an AWESOME option. The only other one that immediately comes to mind would be the Osprey Tournament Talon and if you drop down the video description of this video we talked about/included links to both. You're way ahead of the curve!

Thanks for the response! Just ordered one off TW. Looking forward to hitting the lake soon and trying for my PB.
