Dang, this felt very true to the spirit of the original stories, an ambitious young lord spending days and weeks trying to convince a wise old man to join his cause. I choose to believe Chen Gui threw that last round in the debate because he actually did want to join you, free booze is a pretty good motivator after all. Though now that I remember who Chen Gui was, I kinda remember him and his son being dicks lol.

Thanks for this series. I just picked up this game, and I was completely lost when I started it up. I’ve been playing Hero Mode, but even that doesn’t prepare you for what needs to be done when starting a new game as a single person.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3 for the SNES was one of my favorite tactics games for SNES. Probably tied with Civilization. It was so damn hard though as a 7 to 9-year-old kid. I can honestly say I never beat the game until i replayed it on an emulator when I was like 16. I dunno how I found it so fun when I never won once lol. Civilization, on the other hand, I was able to beat on the hardest setting when I was 9 to 10. I kicked ass at the game. The highest score I ever got was 4th ( i think it compared me to Tomas Jefferson) at 108% or around there. I know it was above 100% because I was like how can I do better than 100% lol.

My fav tactics games are all the Civs, all the Romances, FF tactics and a little known game for Genesis Shining Force 1 and 2. I loved the shining force games. They were easy but very fun.

My favorite person of the era was always Han Dang. I'd love to see a game eventually get made one day that is Three Kingdoms, but with more of a historical twist instead of just a remake of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's a lot more interesting when everyone isn't assigned a narrative trope.

Yeah I'd love to see one based on the historical data more than the Romance itself (they can still use it to complement gaps in historical knowledge). Especially since I'm a Cao Cao fan boy and he gets so much ahistorical shit in the Romance (he was amazing and by all accounts a great guy irl)

I love how you don't play with OP characters. I look forward to the LP. I'm bit disappointed with the translation, though. They've greatly reduced the length of biography in the English version compared to the original. Original contained both ROTK novel and Historical bio for each character with more contexts.

Watching this series while waiting for your Yuan Shao updates. I think there are just fewer characters in this series but you might have more luck finding people in the south. One tip: Zhao Yun is in Julu (the northern city without a governor) this point of time...

As a kid I always picked Cao Cao and pronounced it wrong until like a few years ago lol. I used to pronounce like Kaio Kaio, not Tchao Tchao. Then again im Canadian not Asian so I cant blame myself to much. Plus I was a kid.

to retreat you must order your forces to your own main base on the battlefield and then the option will appear when you highlight them in the base. I haven't played long so I'm still figuring out the marriage thing myself...

This scene, with the 3 brothers raising their weapons in unison, is so iconic that even CA's Total War copies it. In fact (in the novel), I don't think the brothers have their signature weapons at this point in time yet. If I remember correctly, they just toasted each other. Then AFTERWARDS, they commissioned some smiths to make their weapons.

Not quite right. Most of the important characters had official court biographies. KOEI's biographies are usually a blend: they're based on the novel, but sometimes also mentions the official records.

Yea Ive been told but I never had a chance to play the previous versions though I have heard they are better. Yes also the price is ridiculous, I guess they know silly people like me wanting to get my three kingdoms fix will pay it :(
