Romania is not a member of the Schengen Agreement which makes it a great place for a non Schengen home base.
The Schengen Agreement has ruined the dream for millions around the world to slow travel through Europe. Gone are the days of crossing from Spain to France and resetting your clock in a neighboring country. If your country is not a member of Schengen you have to look at these 26 countries as one, an American can only spend 90 days out of 180 days between all 26 countries. Romania and a handful of European countries including the UK are options to live in to reset your Schengen clock. If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, or from South Africa a Non-Schengen country like Romania should be in consideration for your investment budget. Even if you’re not choosing residency in Romania, it’s a great place to live 90 out of 180 days if you need to leave the Schengen. There are some residency options available through a few Schengen countries, but most of these require €250,000-€1,000,000 invested in or paid to the country. Italy has some options that are vaguely written and subjective to local decisions that can be inconsistent.

Thank you, I've been researching the requirements for residency in Romania for years and this guy clearly explained the start-a-business option. I'd wondered about that option and didn't find clear advice. The only thing I found lacking is that y'all did not discuss the new Digital Nomad category.

I know someone living in Spain from Ireland.They have property, but not residency, but still can only stay 183 days per year or they must pay taxes,or become a resistant and pay taxes. So going moving from Ireland which is EU non-schengen to Romania which is EU non-schengen, do you know the rules?

Also note that Romania is likely to soon become a visa waiver country thus allowing Americans to stay there for 90 days visa free.
@WarrenJulieTravel
@WarrenJulieTravel 2 жыл бұрын
It is currently visa free for Americans for 90 days. If Romania joins Schengen and the ETIAS goes into effect in 2023 Americans will then need the ETIAS approval once every three years.

How does that differ from previous years? On each of my four trips to Romania, the guy at the airport just waved me through after a cursory glance at my passport, no visa required (American Citizen). One of those trips was within the 90 day window of the previous trip, and I believe he stopped to count up the days of the previous trip.

Hi, I have a question. Me and my husband are both from Philippines and we have a temporary residence permit and I gave birth to a baby here in Romania, can we apply for a permanent residence permit for him since he was born here?.. Although me and my husband just have a temporary residence permit? Hoping for your response. Thank you 🙏🏻

Unfortunately it looks like this may happen in 2023 or 2024. A reason we would not invest in Romania as a non schengen home base. Hopefully it’s delayed again. Montenegro seems to be a best bet for Schengen alternative home base investing, Turkiye and Serbia are potentially the next tier.
@tipsydog3

@@WarrenJulieTravel Unfortunately? Romania is demanding entry and has waited a very long time. It will be difficult during wartime for the Netherlands to continue to block them. Romania wants entry badly and expects it. It’s odd to desire to stymie the development of a nation for one’s benefit. Serbia is not a place I’d invest a dime! Turkey is volatile. Caveat emptor. Kotor pales in comparison to Croatia! Of course, a EU passport wouldn’t be a problem for me.

@@tipsydog3 As an American the Schengen sucks, we can only spend 90 days in the entire zone every 180 days. Romania joining it takes it off the table for Americans, Canadians, etc that are trying to have a non Schengen base for 90 days. So as an American I cringe as the Schengen grows. It forces us into a small group of countries if we wish to remain in Europe. We own a home in old town Kotor Montenegro due to the Schengen rules.
@swissy5608

@@tipsydog3 Sounds like you also want to stymie the development of a nation for your own benefit. There are some serious downsides to Schengen these days, where people with much worse intentions than Americans can freely circulate. Americans may be brash, but at least the ones sincere enough to expatriate (not the tourist type) mean no harm. In fact, many are thoughtful and endearing. Superior to some alternatives.

What I've heard is that a non-EU citizen can buy an apartment, but cannot buy land. The problem is that apartment purchases include some of the land the building sits on, and therefore a non-EU citizen is effectively prevented from buying the apartment. I believe the guy in the video discussed this, but not explicitly. For instance I'd heard one can start an SRL (business) and then have the SRL buy the apartment/land and it's fine. Then maybe that apartment constitutes the business activity for the business ...? Would have to query an expert for more advice.
