Nice to see your experience with grocery shopping here in Romania. That ribeye steak from Lidl is absolutely sensational, if you prepare it properly! I quickly fry it in a pan with just a tiny bit of oil and at the end I add a bit of butter to caramelize the exterior and some aromatics like rosemary. Quick tip: the lower tray of the fridge is for veggies. Meat should be put on the highest shelve as that's where the lowest temperature is.

In Romania, normal yogurt is a lot more popular than anything with flavor and sugar. Also sour mil (lapte batut), kefir and Sana are popular - sana is a Romanian drink similar to the other 2. And smantana is sour cream but it;s different than US sour cream, you'll see it in small buckets in grocery stores as a lot of dishes go with it. Oh and btw, Orthodox Easter is in about a month, you should try to read a bit on the traditions and see what you might want to experience. Oh and do not try papanasi if you have a sweet tooth. Actually, Romanian deserts are not anywhere near as sweet as US ones and they can even be sour or salty Try placinta, try langos, you'll find them as street food. And try Luca, you'll spot those, there is always a line.

I just found some 100% real Romanian yogurt today at the big grocery store, I’m excited to try it! I will definitely take note of these foods to try! Also, I’m very interested in the Easter traditions here. I’ve heard a little bit from some new friends, im excited to experience that this year!

hey just a small info. in LIDL and some other shops(very rare) the price and product name are always above the product. In all other shops(most of them) the price and product name is below the product. Yeah it is confusing shopping at LIDL.

@@sierramarie In your video you can see at 2:23 that you pick up "rosii pasate(chopped tomatoes)" at 5.99 the price tag can be seen. at 2:25 when you show the price you can see under it the small glass container which has tomato paste.

Go to the vegetable market, where people from the countryside are selling their produce, find the largest one in the city and go. It's cheaper and better produce but focus on what's in season as everything else is gonna be the same as in stores. There should also be raw mil vending machines - and you boil at home before drinking it, while storing it in the fridge. It's way better than in a box. Also maybe see if you can buy a jar of zacusca from the market, it's home made, it's gonna be much better than in stores - it's a vegetable spread and there are a few variations plus it tastes a bit differently in every household so try it more than a few times. Also ă is pronounced like the a in about - not to be confused with â , this sound is not really in English, except maybe in chicken (after the ck) when said with a certain accent

3:19 She asked if you have the Lidl Plus app on your phone. Every major supermarket has an app now and they usually have discounts in there. So you usually scan the QR code from the app when she's scanning the other items on checkout. You went to Lidl. That is not one of my favorite supermarkets. Lidl is always so crowded and everything is messed up. I actually prefer Carrefour and Kaufland. They also have self-checkouts, so you can scan the items yourself and pay through an ATM machine. No humans involved. :) With Carrefour, you can scan the items with your phone at the shelf when you put the item in the cart and just scan the total on the ATM and pay. It's MUCH easier and you avoid sitting in line. :)

@@sierramarie You just have to check if that particular store has the self-checkout registers on your way out. For Kaufland, if that store has the self-checkouts, you have to scan the items yourself at that register. At Carrefour, again if that particular store has the self-checkout registers, then you can either scan every item from the cart at the register, similar to Kaufland, or you can scan the items when you put them in the cart and just scan your total bar code at the machine and pay either by card or cash. And there's usually personnel there to help you out if you don't know something. :) Hope this helps.

The no more free plastic bags came from the EU, protect the environment eco laws, to encourage reusable bags, you've probably seen the more expensive bags you can get at most supermarkets, the big rectangular one, they've started carrying those since the law was given

Does the same type of food, tastes different in US vs the one you buy in Romania?

In my opinion it does taste different! I think the produce seems fresher here overall but also if you go to the chain food places (Starbucks, KFC etc) or even the “American” candy tastes slightly different. I had a KitKat the other day and it was still good- just didn’t seem as sweet, but also I haven’t ate one in years! I think this is because the EU has banned more ingredients that the US still allows- but this is just in my opinion, based on observation, I’m not sure if that’s the exact reason ☺️
