This understanding was absolutely life changing for me. I feel free to live in love and joy without having to earn God's love by obeying every commandment perfectly. This has been self-imposed fear of not doing things right and not a fun way to live life. It is amazing what happens when you look through the lens of God's love in the proper way, and to join the Savior's law of loving even our enemies. I am so grateful to you and to God.

Thank you sooo much for this podcast. I've been stuck so long in a place of thinking I had to earn God's love (which of course I could never do), and I knew my perception was distorted, but I didn't know how to break free from that. I kept falling into the same trap - knowing that Christ was the answer, but always feeling far removed from Him because I felt unworthy of His love; I felt I had disqualified myself from His love. But that's not how it works. Through your words and through the power of the Spirit I have been given eyes to see, and I pray I can hold onto that vision and believe and accept Christ's love, that it's always been there and that I don't have to earn it. Thank you for helping me turn around the telescope 😀

Holding onto this vision is difficult when our General Authorities teach the backwards version of the Gospel ad nauseum.
@angelaaleman7787
@angelaaleman7787 Жыл бұрын
@tsmithson1 I appreciate you sharing your perspective, but I don't know that I agree with you on that. Listening to conference talks by certain general authorities has been one of the few things that has given me hope for myself and my relationship with God. Elder Uchtdorf, for example has given many talks where he talks about God's love and focuses on that. And many others express constantly God's love for us. And I don't think any one of them has ever said that we have to earn God's love. They do emphasize keeping the commandments, but out of an understanding of God's love, not out of fear of losing it. Commandments are a way of participating in God's love; as I think they were saying in this podcast. I think, more often than not, there is a mis-interpretation of some things general authorities have said, just as we can mis-interpret the scriptures when we read them. At least that has been my experience.
@tsmithson1
@tsmithson1 Жыл бұрын
Oh yes they have preached the "earning" message. We have different words and expressions to dance around the subject, but President Nelson specifically has, a now, infamous talk on God's love being "Conditional". You don't think our concept of "Worthiness'" and "tithing" are ways that we club people into good behavior. We suggest obedience "qualifies" us for blessings (God's love). This concept itself is promoting that God's willingness to open his blessing's wallet is dependent on my relative good or bad behavior. We restrict the emblems of the Sacrament for those who have broken the more severe commandments. I don't see any evidence that Jesus made himself less available to people based on their relative obedience. I do however, see Jesus, highly critical of those who used the law to shun or refuse service to the said "sinners". I am glad you have not internalized the toxic message, but that does not mean it isn't highly prevalent. @@angelaaleman7787

This was an amazing Pod Cast! Dr. Miller is amazing and watching you two learn and grow as he speaks is testimony building. We continue to learn and change and be better each day as we fall deeper and deeper "in love" with Loving like Jesus does! I am changed with each new discovery in my learning of the ways of Jesus. Thank you for your hard work to bring all these amazing, scholars and philosophers to our ear buds! I am changed because of it. I came to learn the true meaning of the gospel through my own cancer journey but I could never quite put it in silky elegant T-shirt worthy words like Dr. Miller. I understood this in my heart, that I am to love other people and "work" on deepening my conversion by loving them and what ever else I am inspired to do, listen to pod casts take notes, my own Holy Ghost fire "Check List". A list that helps me learn more about Jesus, so that I can love his people till he gets back, not a list to earn his love. I knew the whole time he loved me and everyone else despite our natural sinning tendencies. I will continue to join him in His love project and become perfect WITH Him! You guys are the BEST, please please have Dr. Miller back!

Amazing! Thankyou for opening my eyes to the fact that love is a commandment given to us to learn how to love everyone instead of judge. I have always thought I need to somehow earn the right to be loved just like you said. Jesus is Right & learning to love everyone in the way he taught is the only way but getting there…..this podcast gave me hope it could be possible. Upside down in the gospel, I’m so used too. I feel like I have a weight on the wrong end that keeps throwing me back there. Thank you! For the insite of a better way.

28:15 - Abuse in relationships! 2:59 - Dr Miller is my favorite! Paul is my favorite! And now you're discussing weeds & comparing them to converts becoming new creatures in Christ. I'm a convert. This is exactly what I teach. I've always considered myself a weed. I love weeds, and there is beauty in them. I wrote a poem about being a weed. The Savior changed me! Yes, I'm a weed, but as Dr. Miller just stated weeds also have flowers. My favorite weed is called the blue corn flower. 💙 They grow along the highways here in Indiana. When I was a tiny girl, my dad explained to me how this little blue flower was actually a weed. I didn't care. For me, it has more beauty than the red rose! 🌿💚🌱

Wonderful. Thanks for posting. I think we would loose fewer members if ‘true doctrine’ like this were shared and taught more in the church. False, pseudo, or cultural doctrine is fear based, validation (ego) based, disorienting, and makes life exhausting. True doctrine like this message inspires, uplifts, and allows people to take in more realities of life. Rather than focusing on reward-or-punishment hurdles to clear, true doctrine helps us grow in our individual capacity and wisdom. Law of rewards/fear/ego vs law of faith/love/becoming. Great stuff. Thank you. More of this please!

Wow I have never thought about love, works and faith this way. “ I do need to do better but why? The answer for me was so God will love me, bless me earn the reward. Such a shift to” join God in the work the work is Love.” The law is love-cannot get love, earn love. Join love and that is the fruit. Wow!!

I believe faith, love, charity, mercy, etc... are all a state of being, just as Christ demonstrated. Jesus didn't love because it was a law but because He was the embodiment of love, charity, mercy, etc... That to me is what conversion is. To BECOME love, charity, mercy, etc..., without measure. Not having to decide who I will love but to love all people unconditionally and without a second thought, just as Jesus does. Studying and learning about the attributes of God will help us to know what sort of person we must strive to become and never cease trying, no matter how difficult it will become. But, let's not dance around Romans 1:18-32, but call out the sins and LUSTS of the people. They changed God's laws to suit their own abominable, wicked, and homosexual practices. 😢

Could it be that the law upon which all blessings are predicated (D&C 130:20) is the law of love and that the blessing is the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy & peace (Galatians 5:22)? When we love as God loves, He bestows upon us an even greater capacity to love (Moroni 7:48) and we receive grace for grace until we receive a fullness (D&C 93:20).

In trying to makes sense of Brother Miller's thoughts I think I can summarize what Paul is trying to teach. The Law of Moses was a law of works. Israel thought that if they did those works God would love them. But He already did. The law of works dies in our burial at baptism and we rise up out of the water living the Law of Faith, knowing that God already loves us. Well, this makes sense in my head! I think it's all about leaving the old law and coming to the new law.

This was indeed life-changing guys. I've taught this stuff for decades, I know this stuff, I've had my own revelation about these concepts, but somehow this hits me so deep and right, and makes me feel as if I never have heard it :) . ...as I concluded my re-read of the transcript, my thoughts went to my beloved prophet Joseph Smith, who said how he very-much identified with Paul, and this leads my thoughts to the relationships with the early church 12-apostles, who had joined the work and then left the work--condemning themselves by removing themselves--but then some returned to the work for the asking, without any friction from Joseph, who, without restraint engendered them his love and welcome again (which hadn't retreated btw, so Godlike)... it's the CHOICE they made to join or remove ... to join and keep the law and join the love, or choice to leave the work, thus condemning themselves. OY! More delicious stuff please!!!! Thanks for all ya'all do to share these things!

I think we must, as the scripture says, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart that ye may be filled with this love.... Moroni 7:48. Despite our circumstances and our past lives, God loves us and will help us love like He does.

This one bothers me in the fact that God does not have enemies! We are His children.

True, but we humans have enemies, and that is the language Jesus uses in the Sermon on the mount. Not to mention, we have a very famous scripture, Mosiah 3:19, that specifically states that the natural man is an "enemy" to God.

I wholeheartedly believe in the first four articles of faith that God gave us out of love for all His children. Everything God does is out of love for all of us; Everything. (Even the Mosiac law,). I will stick to the articles of faith. Especially 2 and 3. I never believed in original sin and I don’t know anyone who actually does. The two greatest commandments of all are to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves; thats not new doctrine. Without charity, which is the pure love of Christ, we are nothing; that’s not new doctrine. If ye love me, keep my commandments. I believe in Acts 22:16 and D&C 39:10. What is baptism for the remission of sins if it is not a ‘washing away’? Article of faith 4. I say this with all the love in my heart for all of us. God loves all of us no matter what we do, that is true. And it is true that obedience matters. Look up what the prophet says about ‘Hesed.’ Covenants matter. There is a difference between being a ‘child of God’ and a ‘child of the covenant.’ Grace works in tandem with other principles of the gospel, (articles of faith 2 and 3) and it must, otherwise grace is a Nehor principle: Alma 1:4. It sounds awesome that we’ll all be saved because God loves all of us. I’m sticking with the articles of faith. I don’t know very many people looking through the wrong side of the telescope, and I am certainly not going to say that our church leadership, former or current does. I prefer the suggested readings in Come Follow Me to learn about grace; like Elder Uchtdorf’s talk. God loves all of us no matter what we do. That is true; that I believe wholeheartedly. And, Strait is the gate and narrow is the way. There is only one way. Deep love to all my brothers and sisters in the gospel 💗💗💗

I hear unconditional love mentioned and the February 2003 Ensign article entitled “Divine Love” by Apostle Russell M. Nelson says there’s no such thing, not even in the scriptures.

If effort was the measure of success~Satan would be a success. Thankfully love is the measure.
