@@eric-jr2nf there are a lot of explanations for why you might come to a different conclusion. It is not your conclusion or my conclusion that is correct, rather it is what was intended by the original author that is correct. If you want to lay out why you conclude differently, then it is possible I could explain how that happened, but the text only has one meaning...so if we come to different conclusions, one of us, or both of us, are wrong.

I too was taught this by the Spirit in 2016. When Jesus holds up the coin with a usually dead Caesar on it and says "render to (this DEAD) Caesar the things that are (this DEAD) Caesars"... he is holding up a coin that doesn't even belong to Caesar, and a Caesar that was likely DEAD... Jesus was MOCKING the "obligations" of authorities... and says "render" meaning, "when they come and threaten your life to take what they pretend to be theirs... give it to them" - you belong to a HIGHER Kingdom... who cares about this Earthly one... Jesus was a badass.

It always felt EVIL to teach absolute pacifism. I could not shake that and absolute pacifism made no sense. I hear this interpretation all the time, in fact it's the only one I hear. What this interpretation boils down to is "obey unless it is a sin to obey", which is also an extremist interpretation when you think about it. It means that a government can tell you what to eat, what to wear, where to live, where to work, who to marry, what schedule to have, what medical treatments to use (such as a certain shot), what entertainment to use, and everything else that falls into the category of "not a sin", and to disobey them in any of these things would be called a sin. If a government official told someone to clean his shoes by licking them, this interpretation would call it a sin not to do so. The limitations in Romans 13 are far more complete, and they are perfectly clear: it says to obey, because rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. That is the reason why we are to obey, the reason why it is resisting God to disobey. This means if a person is not exerting their authority specifically against evil, then they are not the ruler Romans 13 is saying to obey - the reason for obedience is nonexistent in their case. In other words the interpretation is, "obey if it is a sin not to obey". It is as much as to say, disobeying a ruler is disobeying God, because a real ruler never demands anything but obedience to God. Biblically, a person has authority only over what they own (this includes contractual agreements), and the only exception is if someone commits a crime which requires another to step in and do justice on them. A ruler who is not a minister of God for the sole purpose of executing nothing but the wrath of God on no one except evildoers, a ruler who gives any order, law, or command of any kind outside of this purpose, has no biblical authority over a man. A ruler who is a terror to anything except violation of God's law is not the ruler of Romans 13, but the ruler of Proverbs 28. "As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people." Not an authority or someone to be honoured, but a wild and dangerous animal.

Incredibly informative. It kind of makes a support for Christian Anarchy as God WAS, IS, and WILL BE the only True Authority we answer too. Not the government. I see myself as Libertarian Politically but the case for Christian Anarchism is stunningly profound. There will always be good and bad - does that mean a law will stop anything? Nope. More laws = nothing but preventing good people freedom. If you believe in Christian Anarchism as something Biblical, feel free to comment...
@DefyTyrants
@DefyTyrants 2 жыл бұрын
Actually - not even remotely an argument for Christian anarchism. This was the standard throughout Western Civilization - "When the state commands that which God forbids or forbids that which God commands - we are to obey God rather than the state." Understand - this standard was proclaimed all the while that governments with laws existed. Why? Because civil authority is one of the four great governments God has established in the earth. Civil authority is needed in the earth because of the nature of man. Laws are NOT meant to prevent good people freedom (though they become such in statist nations), rather they are meant to punish those who do evil. Civil government has very limited authority in the earth - but when men rebel against God the state increases in authority and oppresses men. Here is the appendix from the Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates that addresses just some of these important matters. defytyrants.com/laws-nation-mirror-law-justice-god/
@clc-gl4jn
@clc-gl4jn 2 жыл бұрын
@@DefyTyrants So this is where we are not in agreement. Laws are subjective and arbitrary of man BECAUSE it comes not from God (only God's Word is the full law and not by man). God (Who is Jesus) is the ultimate Authority over everything will be The One to punish the bad people in this world ("Vengeance is God's"). So what do laws do in reality? They are made as a way of man having power of the people any way man can. It is not Divine law that man makes laws. So what does this do? It creates authoritarianism which is manipulation which is EVIL working on controlling mankind instead of God's purpose of doing such. Now we DO have governments and need to accept their circumstances of laws and such as God's Will works through everything. This is why I believe Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write these Biblical teachings - to let people understand that we must accept God's Will and Glory in every situation under the forms of government we currently will ever live under. That God will work it out. I appreciate the response, however, Government is what satan loves man... It is an easy concept to see. I hope you see it someday.

@@DefyTyrants I hope you know anarchism is not always a concept of violence or even rebellion at all. Anarchism is just no government. Plain and simple. Which can remain pacifistic and not violent. When anarchism happens, people create their own resources and when it is Christian anarchism, it remains peaceful as God has the end all be all. Now what about defending against the bad guys? Of course. You have a right to defend against bad actions the Bible teaches against. But the ultimate justice is God's. Not by you or I or anybody on earth to get payback in our own way by inflicting harm for the sake of inflicting harm or even to determine how their life will go in a concrete cage. Bad people will exist with or without government. Whether we like it or not, our only responsibility in the secular sense is simply to be able to thrive and protect ourselves. That is not even arguable. It is objective Love your video nonetheless!
@DefyTyrants
@DefyTyrants 2 жыл бұрын
@@clc-gl4jn Glad you love the video and thankful for your interest in such matters! Yes - I did not view it as violence or rebellion when you speak of Christian anarchism but as you state - just no government. The reason that no government does not work is because of human nature. It has been tried many times throughout history and has failed every time - again, because of human nature. Civil government has a legitimate God-given purpose - but it has a very limited purpose and must be confronted and resisted when it abuses its purpose and authority. Sometimes I think people go to the other extreme called Christian anarchism precisely because we live in a statist hell in America. But there is a ditch on each side of the road. Again - I think well of you and am thankful for your interest in these important matters.

WE must obey all laws up to the point they turn against God, and those particular laws, we must disobey, in order to obey GOd. But there is a thin law of discernment. So , Daniel obeyed all laws of state except those against God. So, he never turned into a complete rebel of the national law, only against the ¨laws¨that directly go against the laws of God. This is requires to discern, But Daniel never said, that he would disobey Babylon's authority, in all instances, because it was an evil government. He obeyed all except for laws against God's Word. So , then, we only must discern which laws are against God's will, and yes, those we must obey! Period, but to turn into complete rebels of the local governments is a exegesis. We always must obey them-except for laws made against Word of God, and all others, yes, Exactly how we saw Daniel do it. He was considered ¨blameless¨ according to the law of the land and the other aristrocrats wanted to blame him for something, but simply coulnd't find any blame, and therefore they said, that ¨ONly with His God, can we get him caught for something, so they proceeded to make the king make a law against His God. So because a government is evil-like Babylon was and is today-we like Daniel, must still obey it in all things-EXCEPT THOSE LAWS AGAINST OUR GOD; Period. To understand otherwise would be to disregard God's Word in this issue. Pray about it and discern. This is how I see it. Blessed are you for being persecuted for ¨righteousness sake¨, not for your ¨own sake¨. So Civil obedience is biblical, only not for the laws against our GOD.

Killing babies (as in abortion), worshipping kings or men (as in idolatry) are very clear acts of unrighteousness before God therefore defying them (the laws and commands) is a Christian prerequisite. But defying authority (as to the men in charge) over all other laws (such as not paying taxes, or resisting arrest, etc as per Romans 13) would be acts not fitting a Christian testimony. I'm scared as to the spiritual ramifications of what this video content maker's "teaching" might cause in the Christian realm.

@@tuberobotto 2 Corinthians 11:33 (KJV) And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands. So no doubt from your comment that you would have rebuked Paul for not agreeing to be arrested. Somehow God did not rebuke Paul for seeking to escape, so your view of the Bible is a very worldly one and not a Spiritual one.

I don't think anyone actually teaches unconditional obedience to civil authority. The correct rendition is that we are to obey civil authority so long as it does not cause us to sin against God's commandments. And what's this "church men" business. If you are in the body of Christ, you are in the Church.

Let the Holy Spirit show you it refers to the authority of the hierarchy of the Body of Christ. The “civil authorities” are neither civil nor ministers of God to whom Paul refers. Government worships the Devil and God did NOT ordain these corrupt powers to be.

Yes, I agree with most of this teaching. However, in Daniel’s instance you made it sound as if he was saying defiantly in your face I will pray even though the Nebuchadnezzar said it basically was illegal. But clarification Daniel always prayed with the window open to the east to the one true God. So in reality he was just doing what he always dis and would take the consequences. Remember when the Jews were first taken by the government. The Daniel was ordered to eat a certain food. Daniel basically said they would eat the food set before them but first they asked to eat vegetables for a few days and if they were not as healthy or healthier than the Babylonians then they would eat what the king ordered them to eat. My point is that we must look at all scripture because scripture does interpret itself if we do not add our individual opinions. I do not think the one with Paul is a good scripture to use either but i think i made my point.

It also doesn’t mean to physically harm or fight. Where it can become a bit toxic is when you see believers touting how armed with guns to the teeth they are. I might be wrong but I don’t recall seeing anywhere in the scripture where it says to start a bloodbath. But rather we stand up. We flee or defy. We don’t pull out our gun and shoot or swing the Sword. Open to correction here.

Zachary Batson, have you considered how the Armenians were disarmed first before they were exterminated? Have you considered the Holodomor? Those Ukrainian Catholics and Christians were first disarmed before 7 to 11 million perished in the famine.

I think it’s even more simple when you look at revelations although I’m not the most diverse biblical scholar I would say that isn’t it defying authority if you don’t take the Mark of the beast that right there to me says more than pretty much any other scripture you can cite the fact that we are to disobey authority if we feel it’s ungodly.

Although I agree wholeheartedly that God's Law is to be followed above all, how do you understand 1 Peter 2:18-23? Seems like the common exegesis is to not follow orders of a tyrannical government, but Peter is instructing servants to obey "unjust" masters. Similar to the family model that many do not believe applies to the Church, is there similarity here? Shalom
@robertzeurunkl8401
@robertzeurunkl8401 3 жыл бұрын
That *they* are unjust masters does not mean that they are compelling YOU do be unjust, or do something illegal or against God's law. The "unjust" master's judge is God, not us. So, if your unjust master, while being unjust, demands that you go a mile with him, then you go two miles. We are simply responsible for obeying authority so long as it does not compel us to break God's law. But at that point, we must refuse. Honestly, I haven't seen anyone teaching otherwise, so I am not sure who the "target" of this video is. Paul says that we are to live in peace with all men, but not indiscriminately. He says *_"In so far as it is possible,_*_ live in peace with all men."_ But sometimes, you can't live in peace. If men are intent on making you disobey God, then you cannot live peacefully with such people.

I agree with this interpretation of Romans 13, but wanted to point out that I personally have never heard a pastor assert that the chapter suggests we obey the government without exception. I've only ever heard it taught exactly the way you just taught it. Not saying you're wrong or lying, just wanted to offer up my perspective on the matter.

Yes countless do teach that it is without exception. And, for many others where they do have exceptions to obey - have never seen the government do anything to which they should not obey. They have never seen a applicable reason not to obey (and in this society). They believe unlimited obedience by default. A popular exception is that "We obey unless we have to personally sin." But that is not true. Here is a three-minute video addressing that assertion: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpaUk2udhLmdd9k

Why even bother saying “ hey as long as the government/authorities are good then you should obey but if not then it’s ok.”? This is one of those things that is better left unsaid. Common sense tells me I should listen to the ppl over me as long as they don’t interfere with Gods word.

Doesn’t the verse suggest that the authority determines what is good or evil?
@AxeAndAnvil
@AxeAndAnvil 3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. That would be another example of rank wise gears- reading into the text. How can “God’s servant for good” be read any other way than God defining what is good? Once again, if you read all of the other New Testament passages that relate to the subject of Romans 13 it is impossible to get the idea that civil governments are allowed to determine what is good and what is evil. Scripture interprets scripture.

Yes. (but who is the authority?) Any power is given and defined by the authority that gives it: the powers that be are ordained of God: ordered under Him, defined by Him. Power must needs be endowed by an authority, lest we declare it arbitrary, or inherent in the corporate creature; both leading to anarchy: for even the Lord Jesus, our King, was given it (Mat 28:18 - “All power is given unto me”). God defines good or evil. Hence why His law is talked about at verses 8 onwards.

Pastor, Being a new 'fan' of your teachings, first on rumble, now here, I say THANKS and may The Lord guard and guide you. Re: this particular video, I agree wholeheartedly that you're ascertaining the true meaning from Scripture. I take (very slight, hut real nonetheless) offense at the meaning you "put into" (isogesis, yes?) Daniel's praying in the window. He ALWAYS prayed at that same open window (which faced Jerusalem, I think). He had a longstanding habit of praying three times/day - NOT so others would see him, as you seem to insinuate here. Other than that, this teaching is much-needed and spot-on. I only think you should correct the insinuation that Daniel went to that open window only to 'show-off' his obedience to God & defiance of the evil edict; that is an incorrect interpretation, erroneous and misleading.
