The point is that men had Affairs ALL THE TIME. Scandal arises, gossip. But that is all that the men endured. People were more vicious towards women. Women whose husband's had affairs couldn't get divorces. Anna was shunned by EVERYBODY, while men just kept on.

I have read the novel and then watched the movie. I had different images of everyone in the novel than in the film.The faces and expressions all different than how they are in the novel. Anyways .I enjoyed both the novel and the film but on different level

Unspoken social rules of adultery. She told her husband she was in love with Vronsky and then tried to force him to accept the situation on her death bed. Basically in this society adultery is acceptable as long as it is hidden and there is an attempt to lie about it. Anna’s crime in the eyes of her peers is that she was too honest with her desires.
