I was in Rome during the last Jubilee. I went through the Holy Door at St. Peter's. Now, I am not Catholic nor particularly religious, but it was one of the most emotional things I have ever done. Just seeing the faithful walk through before and after me was so uplifting. People were kissing the door, kissing the floor and steps, and many were crying. I am contemplating braving the crowds and attending again next year.

That’s great. Sometimes it’s the faith of others that helps Give us the faith. I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be interesting to see how impacted it will be. Rome is already busy without the jubilee.

I have beautiful memories of the Jubilee of 2000. Yes, a long time ago. The city was invaded by very young priests and nuns. I had never seen so many priests all together and especially young ones! On the Aventine we witnessed a very entertaining party among young Polish novices. They played and sang the guitar. One of them did lead vocals imitating a man's voice. They were hilarious. Then, yes we passed through the Holy Door and it was an emotion.

Great! Be sure to get your reservations set as early as possible. Right now there are several airbnb options in good area for about €100 per night, come May they will be €400 plus per night.

Thanks for the information! I will be in Rome the end of December. Will St. Peter’s Basilica open on January 1st New Year Day? Any special event on that day?

The actual opening up the doors starts on December 24 of this year. New Year’s is actually a huge party season ends with the Epiphany on January 6 then down for about a month. When do you arrive in Rome?

It’s our faith in Christ that will save us. Walking through the doors is just one of many ways we can show our faith. If you use it as an opportunity to start over ,re commit, live a better life, seems like that’s a good starting point.

The exact date I am not sure but sometime between Christmas and New Years eve and the stay open all year and close similar time in 2025.

We are headed to Italy the end of February 2025. Seems like an already crowded Rome might be even more crowded. We have 5 days there before we head to Tuscany. Suggestions for escaping Rome for a couple days trips. I watched Spoleto and definitely planning on that. Any other suggestions would be appreciated ❤️

For the 'remission of sins' ALL catholics MUST go to confession and go to mass and receive holy communion. Plain & simple

Its NOT a cathedral its correct title is a BASILICA! The Cathedral church is Rome is SAINT JOHN LATERAN.
