Excellent, We were there in March and it was amazing. The food at Suisse was great, the entire atmosphere was serene and somewhat eerie. I did enjoy getting a class picture with the ruins and Vesuvius in the background. Your video makes me feel like I'm back there again. This will be great for my students who weren't able to make the trip. We're in Ohio.

Hello Elyssa! I’m Mirko, your tour guide in Pompeii. I’ve just casually come across this video and it made my day. Thank you for the lovely comment and I’m glad you appreciated the tour with me.

Hello Mirko!! Thanks so much for remembering me. I had a wonderful time on that tour and you were one of the reasons. You really brought the place to life for us. I realize how hard it can be to try to share such a vast place with so much to see, but you helped us see the highlights and also allowed us to imagine what life must have been like for the Pompeiians long ago. Thank you again for a brilliant tour and thanks for watching the video!

Pompeii is definitely worth a visit. It's fascinating that such an advanced civilisation existed in 79 AD.

Yes, it really is amazing - and as brutal as that eruption was, it also preserved so much of the city which is why we can still see so much of it today.

Last April I did the full day small bus tour with Walks of Italy. This tour included a drive along the Amalfi coast to Positano with time for lunch ( not included) and a guided tour of Pompeii. I would HIGHLY recommend this small group Walks of Italy day tour

I agree, Walks of Italy is one of my favorite tour companies. They consistently offer excellent small group tours. Here is the one from Rome to Naples with Amalfi coast drive that you mention, if anyone wants to check it out: tinyurl.com/rome-pompeii

Hi Elyssa, a great idea to have a day trip to Pompeii. We have been 2 times now as well as to Herculaneum when in Sorrento, it is spectacular a must visit place and so easy from Rome and we have even eaten at the restaurant you had lunch in. Once more a great tip from you, to see Pompeii when in Rome, not many people would think of that. Take care.
@Romewise
@Romewise 5 ай бұрын
Thanks, Peter! Wow that's amazing that you had lunch where we did. I was worried it would be touristy but I thought it was quite a nice lunch and the pizza was excellent! Yes, Herculaneum is another must, of course! I think it's amazing you can see all this from Rome. It's one thing to visit from Naples or Sorrento, but it's great that you can even go as a day trip to Rome, and it was not even that tiring! Thanks as always for your comments!

@@faehse47 Hi I am sure if you contact the Ristorante Suisse which is outside the entrance of Pompeii will answer all you dietary questions, the food was really good when we ate there, hope this helps.

@Romewise 5 ай бұрын
@@faehse47 I am not sure, however, when you book, I suggest letting the tour company know right away of any food intolerances or restrictions. When we got on the bus at 7:30, almost first thing, our tour leader told us what was on the menu and had us choose so that the restaurant would be prepared. So first, I'd check with the tour company either before you book or when you book. Second, when you order your food on the bus, you have another chance to let them know about any restrictions.

We took a similar day trip on the 25th of March but ended up in Positano instead of Naples. It was our first time in Italy so we knew nothing. It was a long day but the trip was awesome and the guides were very good. It was a great way to see a little of everything and check some sites off of our list. I would say it is an especially good trip for first time visitors. I also want to thank you for your content it was a huge help to us on our trip. I can't stress enough how helpful the Romewise website and channel were. I can't wait until I can come back again and see more of Italy and Rome.

Thank you so much! All of these day trips from Rome to this region involve a long day. So if that's ok with you, then yes, it's fine. Also, to visit Positano and Amalfi from Rome as a day trip means you won't see a lot, but like in this video, you will see something! From my point of view it doesn't make any sense to create a video where everything was planned by a tour company, what would be more interesting and pretty much needed is to show how we can organize a trip from Rome to Pompeii by ourselves, with the different options. Anyways thank you for the info, it is appreciated.

Yes, this is a popular way to go, and yes you will find licensed tour guides outside the ruins and can hire one. In very high season, you may have a harder time finding a guide but it should be doable.

There's also a house here where you can see a mosaic of Alexander the Great
@Romewise
@Romewise 5 ай бұрын
The beautiful mosaic that shows Alexander the Great in battle was once in the House of the Faun in Pompeii. It, along with many mosaics, frescoes, sculptures and other art, is now housed in the National Archeological Museum of Naples, one of my favorite museums in the world and very much worth a visit! mann-napoli.it/en/home-english/ Unfortunately, the mosaic has been removed from the wall and replaced with a facsimile while the original undergoes a long restoration. They do not yet have a date for when this work will be completed. You can learn about the restoration here: mann-napoli.it/en/the-restoration-of-the-mosaic-of-alexander/
