@Redbee-nl3kw3 жыл бұрын
@@bobertroth9134 its not entirely clear his two great co creaters Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby had grown to hate him tho and put theselves as far as possible from him. if you know what the marvel method was you might know that the artist had alot of the work to do themselves and stan just came in later to add the dialouge he wanted yet Steve and Jack didn't get to see really any of the money from their labours. if you look at the history of comic creaters Stan is pretty much the only one to make it out rich and there is a reason for that he knew his way in business and according to Steve and Jack you might think he was just a con man
@bobertroth91343 жыл бұрын
@@Redbee-nl3kw alright. So I did some digging. And it seemed like Steve and Jack do definitely deserve more credit then they get and that Stan may be overstepping it by saying how much he really masterminded all of Marvel. But I wouldn't say that Stan is the scumbag conman that most Steve and Jack stand make him out to be. Like, Stan definitely had some creative input on the stories and unlike Bob Kane, he always addressed himself as the co-creator as opposed to what Kane did which was always address himself as the main creator of Batman and fucking denying most of the work Bill did. I personally believe that Stan was 1/3 of the creative minds that made the marvel universe, but that doesn't necessarily mean he did little to nothing for it. Kane always took the easy way out. A lot of art, even some of Batman's most iconic panels, was traced by him. And he just took all the credit for Bills creation. Stan always had enough involvement and genuinely cared about Marvel. He really put his heart into it when he could. And even when he claimed he did more than their was, he always really loved what he did. So overall Stan was far from a bad person. But he does get more credit than what's due sometimes. That could just me being unwilling to except the idea that a person who I've admired and respected most of my life was a con man, but that's the conclusion I'll settle on for now. And I really appreciate you telling me about this stuff. It's good to know everything you can about this stuff.

@@Gamer-lq4wl That's not true. Stan always gives Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita, and the other key artists he worked with in the 1960s, the credit they are due. I have been in Stan’s presence seven times and heard him tell many stories praising those men. Everyone that knows anything about comic books understands the collaborative nature of creation. The writer and artist together craft the work. Quite often, each person thinks they contributed more to a creation, but both are essential. The thing is that while Stan always credited the artists, they didn’t always get the same focus in the media that Stan did. That was for a few reasons: First, Stan was the actual voice of Marvel. He was the man in charge and the artists were largely “work for hire”. Second, Stan had charisma and Jack and Steve did not. If you read interviews in which a reporter actually visited Marvel and talked to Stan and Jack, you will read long quotes from Stan as he waxed poetic and charmed the reporter and you will read monosyllabic grunts from Jack. And third, Stan lived. Jack Kirby died in 1994. Much of the media only started paying attention to Marvel when the superhero movie revolution began. When the X-Men and Spider-Man films were being made and the media wanted to talk to the people behind these wonderful concepts - there was only Stan to talk to. Steve Ditko was still alive (he only just died this year), but Steve was a recluse and didn’t talk to the media. The media doesn’t necessarily understand the collaborative nature of comic books, so they were often happy just to write that Stan was the creator. In the case of Spider-Man, Kirby deserves no credit. The history is convoluted, but Jack may have at some time pitched a Spider-Man type character, similar to a character he did with Joe Simon in the 1950s, called “The Fly”, but that character didn’t at all resemble the Spider-Man we know and love, the nerdy Peter Parker living with Aunt May and working for J. Jonah Jameson. That Spider-Man is the collaboration of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and further defined into the character we love by Stan Lee and John Romita. Jack Kirby deserves a huge amount of credit for the Marvel universe. He was a brilliant artist. The Marvel Method meant that he was very involved in the storytelling, taking a one or two page synopsis from Stan and visualizing it into a 22-page story and then handing it back to Stan to come up with dialogue. However, Jack needed Stan to make that magic. Jack could plot, but he could not write. His 1970s work that he did alone, at DC, is wild and visually crazy and wonderful. Real fans will recognise not only Stan Lee but Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and John Romita for shapping a universe. Maybe sometimes Stan Lee might have stolen a bit of credit but everyone just like Stan Lee, we are humans and we are not perfect.

I totally respect Stan Lee's legacy and perspective of how Superman should've been more vulnerable but according to me that's what makes Superman different and more challenging for the authors to write and the fact that the authors were able to achieve such a huge success is a proof that they were able to pull off the idea.
