Obviously Green has a much wider radius of effect; I seem to recall Luthor mentioning 10 meters in the Action Comics Annual #10? Even if it wasn't that, I'm sure he noted an exact distance. Edit: I looked the page up, Luthor said 10 feet, not 10 meters. Regardless, that's an official number, at least for the nebulous (in regards to Superman continuity prior to Secret Origins) and relatively brief post-Infinite Crisis pre-New 52 period. The number may have been different for other versions.

These are Superman's weaknesses according to the comics and official DC data books: *Vulnerability to Kryptonite* Since the destruction of Krypton, its remains (rendered radioactive by the explosion) have been spreading throughout the universe as Kryptonite, a crystalline substance whose specific radioactive wavelength is lethal to Kryptonians native to this reality. The most common form of Kryptonite is Green Kryptonite, and its effect is directly poisonous to him. Kryptonite from other realities do not necessarily have the same effects on all Kryptonians. *Vulnerability to Magic* Superman's biomatrix is his most powerful asset, but the strength of this field is also its greatest weakness. Its permeability to certain wavelengths makes him vulnerable to certain radiations, particularly magical energies whose chaotic electromagnetic or extra dimensional signatures disrupt this force field. Superman's vulnerability to magic varies depending upon the special effects of the magic. He can be injured and worn down by magical entities. Magic can have powerful and unpredictable effects on Superman and his magical enemies have often proven to be the most dangerous. *The Black Tide* If Superman's chi flow is disrupted by being overwhelmed by this disturbed substance, he'll suffer from fatigue and pain; until he sub comes to unconsciousness. Eventually he will die, unless acupuncture is administered in time. *Lead* Superman cannot see through lead with his x-ray vision powers. *Solar Energy Dependency* His abilities will eventually weaken without replenishing his energy reserves with normal (yellow) sun radiation, especially if he doesn't have any direct contact with yellow sunlight. When exposed to the same red solar radiation as Krypton's red sun Rao, it causes Superman to lose his powers within a large amount of exposure until the exposure to yellow sunlight will reverse this effect. *High-Pitched Noises* Because of his super hearing, Superman's ears are extra-sensitive to extreme noises. This gives individuals like Black Canary and Silver Banshee who use sonic screeches, a particular advantage in combat against him. *Psionics*

When I was a kid, I found and read an old comic where it gave Luther's backstory. A small meteorite made of kryptonite landed on Earth and Superman got weakened by it. (I think he went up to it to move it or something, I don't recall). Luther saw him and was like, "Oh no, Superman! I'll help!" he pushed the meteorite into a lake with a bulldozer and superman flew off, but then all of his hair fell out from the kryptonite. He blamed Superman and that's why he's Superman's arch-nemisis. Lex Luther hates Superman because he "made" him bald. And this is the only backstory for Lex that I accept.

I think the major thing that everyone forgets is that it's not like it's these guys' first day on the job as superheroes. They've been active in-universe for years and had to fight people who tried to use their weaknesses against them. After a while through just sheer experience alone they'd start coming up with ways to get around their weaknesses. Think about it. Everyone on the planet knows that Kryptonite is Superman's weakness...and yet he's still standing. That's not just happenstance, he actually had to get good at dealing with Kryptonite.

Back in the '60s little me gobbled up every mention of Superman's weaknesses in the comic letter pages (the subject was very popular then). Among other things, the editorial answers included "Q Rays" (never saw a story with them), various colors of Kryptonite, and one interesting fact: Kryptonite was immune to friction. It didn't burn up in the atmosphere, so no mass was lost that way. Which suggests heat-vision wouldn't destroy it -- just break it into smaller bits.

Red sunlight, electricity, and extremely loud noises (his superhearing cannot handle it). Those are all of the other ones I can think of.
@getthedunkon934718 күн бұрын
Good nature, he takes time to get into superspeed, if not ready then he can be caught off-guard regardless of super hearing. Batman can just straight up out stealth him. Not even an exaggeration, he's straight up disappeared from superman in the early days despite them being feet away from each other. It's not even just him, he can straight just not be seen by Oracle's cameras. He was able to get into somewhere that can detect air pressure low as a thousandth of a pound. If Batman willed it, he could straight up never be seen again.

@@Rengokuo4o6 I'm pretty sure "I Can't save everyone" is a pretty big bummer for superman in pretty much every continuity "I can at this moment hear a number of people suffering whom I could save right now, but I can't save them all" is a often recurring theme with him. For all that he's borderline a god there's still only one of him (at least since he forgot he could make mini supermen pop out of his hands)

It's less that red sunlight is effective against him, but that our sun can energise them to a level far beyond their potential. DC's biggest joke is making Batman more and more unbelievable
@LuznoLindo18 күн бұрын
You aren't wrong. How he was portrayed in his very first appearance was arguably his most realistic: A guy in a weird outfit with purple gloves and a grappling hook, driving around at night in his red car for criminals to fight.
@spacevagabond401717 күн бұрын
Similar to Captain America (another peak human), he’s usually fine on his own, but has gotten a monstrous power creep simply so he won’t look useless when put with the heavyweights. At this point, I’d honestly be fine if someone just made him a good guy vampire. Guy has enough resources that he should never need to eat somebody, he’d be superhuman physically, AND he’d have a bunch of unique powers that would fit his aesthetic and fighting style.

Well, if the good ol DCAU has anything to say about this: Electricity, it just... bypasses his imperviousness... somehow. It's kinda dumb.
@BlandoGaming18 күн бұрын
Well he still has a conductive nervous and musculoskeletal system which means being exposed to electricity would still cause nerve misfiring and involuntary muscle contractions including potentially seizures and cardiac arrhythmia. But similar to the Magic example, it's not so much that he's "weak" to electricity but rather it just effects him as one would normally expect.
@sdgdhpmbp18 күн бұрын
DCAU went out of its way to make Superman take a lot of hits. IMHO I think it works. Entertainment value aside, they show Superman acting with a consistent power level that can go up the longer the fight goes on. It shows how much he's holding back and always thinks to take hits instead of avoiding them (which is a problem when he should react faster but unfortunately that part is canon. Shame). I can see why Superman in his true OP form can be boring, especially as a brawler superhero who'll never lose a fair fight. As someone who also loves the human side of Superman like most here, I enjoy seeing him fight his way to victory as well.

Yeah the whole weakness is magic thing is completely bs. He’s more resistant to magic than anything. Think of it this way, if you were hit by a magic lightning bolt you’d probably die, or become a potato, Superman gets knocked out then goes back to normal at most by it. Sure being trapped in a book or getting body swapped, losing memories, etc, that can definitely hinder or even stop him, but it would also stop anyone. The difference between you and him is that he has other super friends and we’re just, well… normal.
