I’m not going to lie, I never used my nursery. My second didn’t even have a nursery. Changing station on your new dresser in your room and a crib/bassinet next to your bed. In my experience, I’ve wanted the baby a lot closer to me after birth than I thought I would. I’m so happy for your new adventure. Take my unsolicited advice with a grain of salt and do you mama!

During your break I rewatched old videos and realised I started watching your youtube when I was a 20 year old party girl who lived in a apartment with my friends in a big city. Now as soon as your videos goes live I watch them in the middle of the night (as i live in sweden) while breastfeeding my 7 week old daughter. Since then I’ve moved back to my tiny hometown and bought the house my grandfather built when he was my age, which I’m now renovating with you as my inspiration. Big congratulations to the pregnancy I’m so exited for you!

Little tip- baby’s don’t need as much as you think and nurseries are overrated. My baby’s stayed in my room until they were old enough to feel comfortable alone. It took 5 years total.

I never thought I’d be that mom, but totally was that mom. My daughter slept with us for that long. We managed to navigate it. But i had more emotional separation than she did. I don’t regret it. She was a breast fed baby and after falling out of the rocking chair on day one, or should i say night one, i never went back. I loved my time with her when she was little. So now, fast forward 41 years, i still dont’ regret it. My daughter is a well rounded, beautiful woman with a husband and two sons of her own.

I think it’s important for a young baby or toddler to have their own space. Ive had two boys. It’s healthy for kids to play in their rooms and have alone time. Also I can see her having a play room because like McKenna I cannot stand toys all Over the house. That playroom is so similar to ours right off the living room with double French doors.

As someone who has had two babies: I would get a bassinet for your room because that’s where the baby is going to be for the first several months. I’d plan for that wherever YOU as mama are going to be sleeping, that’s where you want 90% of baby’s stuff. You don’t want to be walking all over the house to change diapers, make bottles, etc. Especially in those first couple of weeks. 😅 Also, less is really more with newborns. You don’t need all the gizmos and gadgets that they tell you to get. Top things for me: -A bed, obviously lol! -A diaper changing table with storage so all the diapers, wipes, butt cream, a change of clothes for blowouts, etc is right within reach. -A car seat/stroller combo. One that the carrier clicks into the stroller are chiefs kiss. -A good quality swing. These SAVED my life with both my babies for nap times or any time I needed my hands free and couldn’t wear them. Strap them in and let it go while you take a shower, do laundry, etc. -A carrier or wrap so you can wear the baby while your out and about. And that’s really it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Everything else can be a bonus but isn’t absolutely necessary. I’m sooo excited for you and Romeo! Congratulations!!!

@@VintagebyVandergrift It’s just been my experience. I definitely lean towards being a minimalist so maybe other mama’s had more and felt like they needed all of it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just felt overwhelmed. 😅 I paired down a lot with my second and felt like the newborn stage was easier when I had only what I used on a daily basis. As she got older I added and subtracted stuff. Everyone has to figure out their own style for the newborn stage.

A "murphy bed bookcase" in place of the current guest room wardrobe would be a great conversion! You'd still have a space for mama when she comes to visit. But then the entire bedroom opens up for Little Romeo or Juliette. 😘🥰 Praying for a happy and healthy journey forward for your growing family.

I don't know what your yard looks like or how big it is, but I feel like you could use a little outdoor storage shed for your supplies. My dad has a shed like that to store his projects (he renovates furniture). You could order a pretty basic one, and give it a cute makeover for content!

when i was pregnant with my second daughter, i worked full time at a “real” job (in super high heels and suits 0:15 0:15 - how did i do it?) almost until the due date - while renovating our house, too. the day before i went into labor (that night), i pushed a queen size mattress and box spring up to the new second floor of our house, plus the dresser and the crib. i styled the entire new second storey of the house. i had so much energy and GRRRRRRL POWER to do it. i learned later that it’s the nesting instinct kicking in and boy oh boy. nothing could stop me. those first few weeks with the new baby is like a honeymoon. you’ll remember all the smells (the good ones, i mean!) and the colors and the songs and the weather. it’s a wonderful time. and for me that was about 45 years ago. i remember it as if it was yesterday. wishing you and romeo so much happiness. and i will just slip this in: take it easy when your body gets tired. now my baby has teenaged kids and i’m a gramma! it goes by really fast so enjoy every minute. ❤

I think your idea to use that jut out space as the nursery is brilliant! That way you get to keep your guest room and yes, the entire house will become the babies! You know MaCenna? You may actually need to rent a storage space for all your frames and decor items. Remove your base boards so the cabinets sit against the wall, lower the horizontal one so your vent is unobstructed, I don’t think it’s that big a deal.

I agree with you about it looking “heavy”. However the other issues are super solvable- you can slice through the baseboard with a flush cut multi-tool and remove it in that section, and you can easily move the vent. The main thing is patching drywall doesn’t always look great but since the old hole will be covered by the units it won’t matter. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Trust your judgement though- I’m sure you will make it perfect no matter what!

It can put your child at risk to a wide variety of predators even at a young age. You are an incredible creator and have done well to protect your privacy, you respect Romeo’s boundaries, I really don’t feel like you’d share a lot, and this is your little one so it is obviously your choice. I really only say anything just out of an abundance of caution. I am so excited for your family and for this next year.

So agree with this! I don't have children, yet, but I know I'd be the mother that didn't broadcast my baby much, if at all. I think it's such common practice nowadays amongst creators, but there is so much sacredness (and safety/security) in privacy. Beautiful reminder.

Women are so are amazing! We can actually create life inside our bodies and remodel our homes at the same time! The nesting phase is amazing and my favorite part of pregnancy. My husband traveled for work when I was 8 months pregnant and I took my whole kitchen apart and painted all my cabinets. When he came home I had a brand new kitchen😂

Congratulations on the baby and new year. If you not craving anything it’s because you getting the right vitamins and minerals in ( thank you @ag1 ) . Have you thought about placing the ikea shelves against the wall with the smaller window and then place a desk or more cabinets ( built out look)? It would free up floor and visual space. It could also look ok when it becomes a guest room ( just an idea). Good luck with the journey and keep taking care of you

I'm sure you already had this idea but you can remove the baseboard from behind the cabinets to get them closer to the wall. Also, if you would have to add wood across the top of the cabinets to get them to the ceiling, you can add pieces that direct the airflow to the front of the cabinet area and add a little vent there. Just paint it the same color as the cabinets. imo GOOD LUCK!

I worked as an ICU nurse during my pregnancy until 3 weeks before delivery, night shift and had two younger boys . I feel if you keep doing what you have been doing is good with a few exceptions. I made sure I didn’t lift heavy items/ patients but I liked working while pregnant, it made time go by faster. Congratulations again, so excited to see your pregnancy journey 😊❤️

Layout idea 💡 to avoid the air vent and have space for the TV can you move the shelves to the opposite wall? It would look nice as you walk in the room too. So lovely to see you well and back at what you love! ❤️

I would build out storage around the window at the far size of the room. Then you could build out storage or a bench under the window. I think it would make the room feel less cramped since it is longer than it is wide.

With my first daughter I felt so good. My doctor told me to go ahead and do the things that my body was use to doing just don't start new things that your body is not and always to use my upper body strength and not my stomach muscles. Hope this helps. Loved this first vlog. Can't wait to see the nursery come together. Happy New Year.

I think it’d make the most sense to just remove the guest bed and add some pretty pull out sofas to the nursery and Romeo’s office. Six penny has some really nice ones. It’ll help to not have to negotiate the space while still having places for guest to sleep when they visit. I agree with everyone else thinking you should move your bedroom to the same floor as baby.

Hi Macenna!!! Great to have you back in my life!!! I missed you very much. I live in Australia. After watching you plan out your nursery I must say I am surprised you are having the babies room upstairs and you are downstairs. As a mum it’s important that you have your baby close. Whether you move upstairs or bring the baby downstairs with you is your choice but I think you should think about where you want to be.

Take the trim off it’s worth it even if you move it later just save trim. Storage cabinet under Tv. Hang tv on wall. Coffee table Modular’s to a standing height or table top desk height for Romeos business. Folding table or packing then can be put away. Love the new chair and and all the storage solution building your shelves with n family room with cabinet doors will be an idea toward more storage. So excited to see your ideas.

Glad you're not giving up what you love because you're pregnant. You may have to cut back at times (e.g., toward the end of pregnancy) but you can still do a lot. And as your child grows, they will learn so much from the work you do. I'm a health researcher and i have a photo of each child sitting on my lap while I worked (first on a terminal and later on computers). I took my kids to work with me on occasion (school holidays and snow days) and my oldest has great memories of hanging out with my colleagues and me. She even gave a little speech at a goodbye party for one of my colleagues! (People loved it!)

Building an Ikea unit is so smart. I've always had adhd and in more recent years developed a chronic health condition and it is such a relief to find accommodations for them. It can really force you to prioritize your time and energy and find solutions to problems in new ways. Plus you get to make the storage unit look how you want it to work because Ikea items are so easily customizable. Excited to see how Romeo's space and the nursery turns out!

Loved this cute first video back! Absolutely listen to your body and if you feel you have the energy to DIY and build then do! My son just turned 3 but we moved into our last house when I was 28 weeks pregnant, and at 36 weeks pregnant I had a random burst of nesting energy and I was balanced up the ladder nailing panelling to the walls and painting and building furniture because i decided i wanted my living room to look cute before i was home a lot with my baby in there! (Covid lockdown times)! You absolutely can still be you and do the things you love. Congratulations! I’m so happy for you 💕

Happy 2024!!! have you considered moving the master bd and nursery upstairs and making the downstairs the office/guest room? it will owrk much better for putting baby down, be there when your toddler has nightmares, change diapers are night etc. It is not very practical or realistic to sleep on a different floor! Also, maybee get rid of some stuff? it will help you start the new phase with less of a burden of things. I am a compulsive cleaner and it itches me to see so much stuff!!! but I enjoy your vlogs and creativity.

It's great to hear this run down of your plans for your channel. I know you'd prioritise your child's health and safety and know you won't publicise their life in a way that is unhealthy or potentially damaging so it's good to hear you will not be shifting the focus of your channels. I am still keen to see you as a mum with your child because I know you'll be such a supportive and creative mum and it will be very inspirational and give us lots of ideas for children and I feel very reassured it won't be in any way that will have negative effects. You see so many family channels with dark sides so it's easy to be skeptical of creators starting families but based on your previous content and your plans outlined here I feel a lot more reassured. Good luck for this year, I can't wait to see what you make!

Hi MaCenna, I'm from Germany and here in most families the babies sleep in their parents rooms. We use little beds that you can put right beside the parents bed, so mom and baby feel safe because they are right next to each other and mom doesn't have to leave the bed at night to feed the baby, which ist very convenient 😊 our baby is now a toddler and still sleeps in our room and i Love it ❤ in the nursery we have the closet, toys and the changing station (which we barely use because in reality you change the baby right where you are 😅 couch, bed, carpet). Love seeing you again and wishing you all the best for this year and your pregnancy!

Girl, I just gotta tell you. I’m only 4:30 seconds in to this video, when you start nesting near the end of your pregnancy you can’t help but take on projects! I was 35 weeks pregnant and installed my kitchen backsplash… had I ever done that before? Nope. Did I just have an urge to get it done and couldn’t explain it to anyone? Yes. I also installed some laminate flooring at 36 weeks and a kitchen island butcher block countertop around 32 weeks. You shoulda seen me try to get grout in the corner, I could hardly reach the wall with my massive belly.
