You need to get a moisture meter and check your dry wall! Our washer flooded our downstairs and it was only about 2 inches and it caused a lot of unseen damage. We had to call insurance and have about 2ft up the wall removed and dried out.

I agree; my BIL & SIL’s house flooded, they also had brick/tile flooring and when their insurance company came into analyze the damage, they used a meter to assess the moisture in the house and it was significant. So even though you think that because you have brick flooring in the flooded area, the water can still make its way under the drywall. My BIL & SIL ended up having to have their tile floors removed, the sub flooring dried out using industrial fans for a few weeks and then new flooring put in. Their insurance company and the disaster relief service company told them if they didn’t do this, they were at risk of having mold in their house. I also noticed that there seems to be a lot of moisture still in MaCenna and Romeo’s house based on the moisture on the living room windows - i noticed the moisture on the windows when MaCenna was opening the packages at the 8:36 minute time in the video.
@ellison202410 ай бұрын
I agree with that based on experience. We punched some 4” - 6”holes into the drywall and then had fans running to get air in to help it dry. The experts came and amplified the approach. They had to replace the trim and lower drywall. It minimized the damage so our claim was not at all disputed. It also helped we immediately took video so they could see we didn’t delay and tried to minimize the damage (our was a leak due to failure in the main line at the turn off valve).

You need a professional to assess your drainage system. but for sure, whenever heavy or persistent rains are expected, backwash your pool to get the water level down lower than normal so that you have room to take on rainwater. We live in Texas and back in the day when we owned a pool, we always backwashed when the forecast was for heavy rains. I suspect you need some additional drains around the pool so that your lower hardscape near the back door is not as much at risk for being overloaded.

QUICK DAM is a product sold at Home Depot. We have flooding in the Spring, if we get huge amounts of rain, and it's what we use. It's a strip of what looks like fabric, about 8 inches wide. You lay it down and when water touches it, it swells up and creates a dam to stop the water from advancing further into the room. Water Always follows to path of least resistance and with your back yard being completely Hardscaped it has nothing to soak in to. A sump pump could be a huge help for you, long term.

I wonder if the previous homeowners had that issue and they raised the floors in the other rooms and that is why the house had brick floors in the lower areas. You are probably found to have to have some type of sump pump installed.
@stephaniegower51039 ай бұрын
You need to fit an overflow to the pool to allow excess water to drain away so the level never gets too high. I’m surprised there isn’t one in place already. In the meantime I would drop the pool level. The majority of your back garden is made up of hard surfaces aside from the raised bed at the back….you have very little drainage and no grass for it to soak away into. I would get a building contractor to come and look at the drainage system…you need more than one drain for sure….in fact, I would plan to put a whole drain line in across the patio in front of the pool so the water is caught and it can run away. That’s what I did with my extension. It runs the whole width of the house to take the water from the patio.
@jessicapavilonis132410 ай бұрын
Definitely call in a professional remediation company to assess the floors and walls. Let your insurance company know as well since any damage should be covered. Contact a plumber and get a sump pump installed. They can probably look at the drains in the yard and make sure they are working properly (could have clogs, tree roots, etc. along the lines). Also buy a wet vac and dehumidifier to deal with any minor water/moisture issues in the future.

If it strictly was coming in from the pool then there really isn't anything to disclose. Our back yard fills with water sometimes and we figured out how to drain it with a normal garden hose. This is crazy but it works. It’s a poor man’s pool drain. Ok so this is how it’s done. Take a long garden hose. Put some netting over one end (has to be the male end) with a rubber band so it doesn’t suck up leaves and get clogged. Take that end and stick it in the lower part of water your draining. Now heres the strange part. To create suction you need to have force going through the hose. Your going to take the other end of the hose to the front of the house or an area you want the water. Connect it to your spigot/faucet outside. This seems counterintuitive but it works. Turn the water on for 1-2 minutes. While the water is still running disconnect the hose from the spigot. It has to be running still. This creates a reverse suction. The water will continue to drain out until there is no more suction. It’s amazing and it works! Our house is not on a hill and the hose was mostly level but not completely.

In Washington and Oregon I was a waterproofed. For homes like yours we would out in French drains at entrances and detour the water down the properly slope away form where it's coming in. For others who didn't want to do the drains we did perimeter inside flood proofing drains that direct the water to a sumppump in the lowest part of the house and then have the pump direct it out of the house and down the lowest slope.

You need to have this conversation with a plumber, your pool person and grounds keeper. There are diversion tubing that can be put into the back garden and there should be a way to lower the water level in the pool. Your plumber can advise you about an automatic sump pump. Here in Utah, we get water and mudslides. Oh and there are water sensors that will let you know when water is coming into the house

I grew up in a "sunken" house built in the 1920s. The ground went up about 2ft on the exterior walls of my bedroom. We had to be very careful about fabric on those walls because it would mold in the winter! Not flooding but something to watch for on the lowest levels!

Oliver Jeffers is my absolute favourite picture book author/illustrator! He has so many great ones. My favourite is Lost and Found, it he also has a wonderful boxed set called Once There Was a Boy, and a few of them are space stories. You must get more of his books - your little guy will love them! I collect picture books and there so many great ones out there! You’re going to have a blast building his library. ❤

Firstly im so sorry about the flood,im in the UK and our house and street flooded a few years ago, and when you said it was so fast ,i could totally relate, as fast as my husband was bailing water out of the front door ,it was coming through the walls in the back ,i love your positive attitude, you did well to get on top of it ,i know you can buy flood proof door gate type things that at least afford you time,hopefully you manage to get something sorted to prevent it happening again x

Make sure you keep a check on any walls the water got to as sheetrock draws in water and can mold.

I had a flood in December that I’m still dealing with today. Mine wasn’t weather related. But water is an extremely destructive force. Make sure to get a moisture meter and industrial fans to dry your drywall. When they came to fix my apartment they drilled 1 inch holes in the drywall to help with drying the inside of the drywall. Water in drywall sitting will cause conditions for mould and mildew to grow.

I knew that was going to happen when I saw your back patio back when you did the turf. Your thresholds aren’t higher than the patio so any pooling of water will going under the doors. You also have those hills behind mixed with a pool yikes !

MaCenna. This WORKS. Lowes has FLEXSEAL Flood protection TAPE. Plus use Flex paste flood prevention to seal the edges of the tape. The tape comes in 4 and 8 inch widths. We live next to Tampa Bay 8 feet above sea level. Our house has never flooded.

Glad the flooding has cleared up! You'll have to get the book "the little house" by Virginia Lee Burton for baby boy. It reminds me of the story of the cottage. It's one of my favorites and I think you would love it!

We live in the central valley and last January during those storms it rained for days and days. Then the wind came. We lost 10 trees in 48 hours. One fell onto our little house. It smashed through the living room and the whole house is a loss. The impact of the tree caused cracks in the ceiling and walls throughout the entire house. Then it rained even MORE. It was awful. Watching our house flood for days and days and there was no way to stop it. We have to get our house demolished now and it's been such a long, awful experience. We did get lucky that none of us were hurt. Looking bank in not sure how we all (and our pets) walked away. I know the panic you much have been in. I hope you get a solution figured out so you don't have to go through that again. ❤

Have been seeing so many pictures showing all the flooding in California!!! I bought these tubes that go across the door area or wherever you need them and that somehow soak up the water away from your door think I bought them on Amazon in case this ever happens again. Our problem is when the snow melts and cannot soak in the ground because everything is frozen in Northern Michigan. I have not had to use them since I bought them because we have not had the snow we use to have!! But I have them!!

A pool company can add a drain for pool water release, meanwhile put garden hose in pool, and place other end downhill (pull water out like siphoning gas) place rug in garage until rug company can pick it up for a good clean. Later evaluate property for French drains etc! Check walls if moisture present have it removed and repaired. Take care!

MaCenna. You need to get a remediation company out to dry out the moisture and check the walls (drywall). If not you could end up with mold which is very dangerous especially since your pregnant. You'll then want to have someone come in and fix the drainage around your pool so it drains away from your house. Sorry this happened to ya'll. Been through it myself not fun.
@katherinesanneman794010 ай бұрын
Our pool pump has a dump setting, where you can just dump water out when it gets too full. Water claims aren't usually covered by insurance if the water comes in through a door or window. Usually only covers if a drain fails. Just FYI.

I am so very sorry you guys are going through this. I come from a family of Canadian builders/architects. Here are some tips that may be helpful if you are not already aware. My tips come from a place of kindness, this happens. Your grading needs to go down away from your home. Do you have French drains? Get a sump pump installed if you don't already or whatever is to code for your area in what I've mentioned. You need dehumidifiers and a moisture meter. If the bottom of your drywall has any moisture, it needs to be cut away, (mold spores). I would check all your drywall, even where you don't suspect. Also, if you don't already have one, an HRV or ERV SYSTEM is installed for healthy levels of air circulation. And top of the line air purifiers for your home, each only cover a certain square footage. Healthier home series for your channel perhaps to share important info with your viewers. I very rarely comment, but my heart went out to you, Romeo and little Kinsley. I'm sure youll get professionals in to assess and remedy asap. Congratulations on your pregnancy🎉. Cherish every moment of the entire experience xo

Thank you so much for sharing this information with MaCenna, and the rest of the commenters whom I'm sure could use this information. Hidden mold in a house my husband and I bought ruined my health and our lives. I now spend most of my time advocating for mold-affected chronic illness patients like myself and educating others about how to protect themselves and their homes from mold.

Our pool has a "back flow" feature on the pool pump, to prevent over flow. With flip and twist on the top of pools filter, the water is reversed and pump out into the street. Have you checked you Filter Pump?

OMG... im so sorry, i can't imagine how that feels when that happens to a home that you love, respect, and care for the way you do. I'm not sure if you have this in the US, but i'd most definitely check to see if you have a damp proof course on the foundation walls of the house to protect from moisture getting into the walls. Unfortunately It wont protect from flooding, im not sure what can other than checking you have proper drainage and using sand bags, etc. But that amount of water can create damp, mould, rotting, etc which isn't good for your health, especially pregnant women and a baby. I hope it gets resolved asap and doesn't cause too much stress on you and bubba. As someone part Turkish Cypriot i can confirm turkish cotton and turkish bath towels in general are the best towels. They actually make me feel drier and the dont get heavy when wet like regular towels . Unfortunately its been raining here non stop, and it looks like its here to stay for the week. It could be worse though, as Scotland, the north of England and parts of Wales have snow. The south at least had a pretty dry summer and autumn. Much love from London 🩵

When you redo the kitchen you all need to raise the floor all the way outside to fill that in and bring the dining room floor up to the current kitchen height. Something about that step down by the door just doesn’t make sense at all.

Oh….I’m so sad for you & Romeo. Our home flooded 4 months after building our dream home. It’s a nightmare. Because you have the hillside is in your backyard you should hire someone to put some drainage pipes at the top of your property so that the water will not flow into the yard or pool. It will be diverted to the road in front of your house where the drainage is. I love the waffle towels they are awesome. They never get that nasty mildew smell.

Knowledge is power. Now that you are aware that this may be an ongoing issue you can take steps to mitigate it. Make sure you always have 3-6 inches of space in pool if rain is predicted, get professional assistance to inspect the damage and divert the water in future and increasing and possibly moving the drains, dehumidify the affected internal area immediately to prevent mould. Keep us posted on the solution.
@heidikitt478010 ай бұрын
Doesn’t the water get in the walls by going under the baseboards and ruin the insulation? Water wicks up the insulation and molds. I’d open the bottom of the walls, get a professional dehumidifier 0r 2 and dry everything… replace any insulation that’s been contaminated
