Hi Macenna ! The blue spoon holder is made of baked clay, and it comes from a village named Soufflenheim in northern Alsace (Far far north east of France). Soufflenheim is a lovely place with a long history in poterie, and those drawings and paterns are typical of this place (FYI next to this one is Betschdorf, another wellknown place for traditional craftmanship where they work with "Grès au sel" (salt-enameled sandstone ?), always in blue and grey tone that you would love too ! Always a pleasure to watch your video, but this time... How fun (and frustrating!) to know you were so close !

I would love to visit far away places. But we all have phases of our lives. First there is the go-go phase. Those were the years I was working and completely unable to afford travel. I am now retired and in my slow-go phase rapidly entering my no-go phase. Life passes so quickly. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you.

Oh my goodness Sara that is so true😂 all of the above. When it was just me and my husband go go go go go then me and my kids and my husband go go go go go go and then when it came down to me and my husband, we did what we wanted. Took vacations together without the children and the grandchildren it was just us, and it was marvelous .😮 I am going to be 73 and I’m very very active. My husband passed away in 2014 so it’s just me and the dog 🐶 and I am doing what I want to do now… when my kids want me to go someplace or take a trip out like nope dad’s not here anymore not going to do it😊 if you don’t mind, I am going to borrow that. I am now going to say I am in my slow- go phase, rapidly entering my no -go phase😊😊

Hi, a home gardener here. Based on the color of the flowers in the painting at 8:06 and the way they are structured, they are likely peonies, not hydrangeas. They could also be a ruffled tulip or Ranunculus.

I totally agree with you about not letting yourself get overwhelmed with all there is to see. My husband lived in France for a year after college (before his Master's program), as he speaks French fluently. So our best moments were finding an out of the way cafe that was family owned.... just hanging out enjoying the culture. We had our boys with us, so there were specific things we wanted them to see. We took a boat tour down the Seine, and we were able to see so many famous places! We were there before the fire at Notre Dame cathedral, so we felt very thankful for that!

A few years ago my husband and I took a 17 day backpacking trip around The UK (Ireland, Scotland, and England) and its true, you really do have to accept that you won't be able to see everything and you just have to pick what is most important and choose to be present where you are... and even so, toward the end, when we were in London, we were soooo tired that we ended up sleeping an entire day just to regroup. We were actually halfway to the train stop and I just looked at my husband and said "I have to go back to sleep," lol, so we turned around and went back to the AirBnB and caught up on sleep. I'm glad we did because that day he took me to see Phantom of the Opera (on my Bucket List) and if we had tried to push through and sightsee all day, it would have totally ruined the experience of something that had been a dream since I was a little girl.

Travel hack : always save the zippered plastic covers when buying sheets and other bedding they are perfect for packing and separating dirty clothes and shoes in your luggage. Plus, it's a great way to recycle, and you got em, so they were free. I have been doing this for years, and it is such a handy thing. Safe travels, ya'll.

I'm so happy you three had a wonderful trip! Watching you make your way through the markets was fun (though I kept wanting to reach out and touch things) and seeing you with your mom at Versailles and and later at the museum (haha getting tossed of the lawn!) was ALMOST as good as going with you. You brought home much less than I imagined you would. That framed painting of peaches is spectacular! And I love the unframed painting in the style of Cezanne. The others are beautiful, but those are my faves. The first one - the floral - is gorgeous, too. When I travel, my souvenirs are always artwork and practical, usable things like the hardware and tea towels you bought. Or your spoon holder. Now you'll have instant reminders all the time. Glad you're safely home. And Kinsley looks like she's over the moon to have her mom back! ❤

It’s important to live in the moment when you travel. I always tell myself to enjoy living like a local. That’s what’s important. If there are things that I don’t do, then it’s just a reason to come back. This motto has made traveling so much more relaxing and enjoyable. I love a good flea market or charity shop, so I always look them up and have them on my possible things to do… but the unexpected fleas are always my favorite. FYI… When you looked at those records. I was saying stop… I so want to see them and the pricing. I love bring back a record and playing it when I get home. It’s like filling my house with the sounds of my adventures.

Thank you for taking us along in your Paris journey, I feel like my life is incomplete if I don’t get to see your videos weekly. I never thought I would feel that way about watching another persons life on KZbin. I just adore you, your mom, Kinsley, Romeo. So very happy that you enjoyed your trip and you were present in the moment and didn’t let FOMO take over. I can totally relate to that!!! Can’t wait for more of your bathroom Reno!!! I’ve been renovating RVs for the past 12 years and have been involved with interior design since I was very young and I must say that watching you had inspired me so much that my style has evolved. My style has changed many many times through the decades but in the past couple years I have incorporated a little vintage, little cottage, more wood tones and warmth which has been inspired from your cottage Reno, I’m absolutely loving what I’m creating in my own home. Thank you MaCenna for not stopping your videos even when you’re on vacation, I loved seeing the Paris flees. I hope and pray you never burn out because every week I look forward to watching your journey and even more so than anyone else that I follow on KZbin. My week is complete when I can watch your videos!!!🎉❤😊 That sounds so crazy to me to say but it’s true!!

I always envy when you go to any flea market because in the small city where I live (San Sebastian, north of Spain. It has a lot of French vibes btw) there's no such a thing as a flea with antique furniture. Everything is always new. But then when I saw that spoon holder you bought and all that porcelain pottery you liked can be found everywhere in here. Even in some of our "dollar stores". So it made me also cherish what I have. Great series McCenna. I enjoyed it so much that now I wanna go to France too (and I live 30 minutes away from the border😂)

Not gonna lie, I was hoping to see her receive it 🤭🤗 Looks like it was a beautiful trip and I need to say how stunning your mom looked throughout the trip in which we saw her. You always hear how elegant and flawless french women are and I definitely thought your mom looked like that description. Plus, she has the most gorge hair and style. Absolutely stunning 🤗

Ive spent my life moving and travelling … if I could offer any “wisdom” it would be this: you travel to encounter the spirit, the character, the soul of the place you are traveling to. Thinking in terms of specific things you want to see is focusing on the materialistic (I don’t mean that in a consumerist sense, I mean it in the literal sense of the word) aspects. For instance, focusing on seeing Notre Dame Cathedral or The Louvres rather than the spirit of the people who have inhabited that spot of earth that have valued their religion and beauty and the expression of both for centuries. If you open your eyes, you’ll encounter many beautiful churches with something special and unique to the people who live there, you’ll see the artists ateliers and studios all around you, the sculptures in the public spaces, etc. Pick one or two things you absolutely think you’d be devastated if you didn’t see while you were there and then let the city/town greet you and introduce itself to you. It’ll be the little details you end up remembering long after you’ve returned home. The way the light looked, the smells, the little spoons the cafes all seem to use, the shape of the benches, the way their street signs look, the nature of the roads and avenues and how they line up vs where you live ….. sure, you’ll remember being in Notre Dame but most of the time those big tourist attractions end up being a bit disappointing, a bit anti climatic and you often miss the actual character and spirit of the city/town you’re in because those places have been set up for tourists. Always ask someone local where to go for whatever it is you want to see or experience. Above all, use your manners and be gracious and humble. When people sense that you truly want to meet their home and that you respect it and them, they will open the door for you and let you take a peek inside. And it’s those moments that you carry with you forever. So, ya, don’t worry about seeing all the things. They’re just things. Open yourself up to encountering the spirit of the place you are visiting.
