It took me days to try to get a full experience ticket experience. I wanted the underground 1st, but those were also impossible to get. I ended up getting one for the 2nd to last day of my trip. I was up at 2am refreshing every minute 😂. But the view was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and worth those few sleepsless nights trying to get it!!!
@RomewiseАй бұрын
I'm glad you got the tickets you wanted, but I do believe that people visiting with a standard colosseum ticket can still get pretty amazing views, as I show in this video :)
@deanhatescoffeeАй бұрын
We're planning on visiting the Capitoline Museum, then heading down to your "secret" entrance on Foro Romano and buying tickets there. If we can get into the Colosseum that day, cool. But if not, then we'll just enjoy the walk through the Forum and Palatine Hill and the view of the Colosseum from the outside. I figure there's so much to see even from just the outside, I'm not going to stress about not being able to do this one thing. And if we don't see it this time, that's all the more motivation to come back to Rome another time.
@RomewiseАй бұрын
Yeah! That's great! You will love the Capitoline Museums and also using that secret entrance. I STILL never see people there. If you are ok with a standard entry ticket to the Colosseum as I've outlined in this video, you can alsmost always get these tickets same day on site. But you are right, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill are really the best places to see and learn about Ancient Rome. I'm so glad you find my videos helpful! Have a wonderful visit!

Awesome video! Those tickets are more than “elusive.” They are gone before they are posted, so those tickets are only available through resellers that charge a ridiculous mark-up. You are helping a lot of people with this video.
@dummygirl1201Ай бұрын
Yeah, they literally block the site and only open it when the tickets are all gone for the Underground. I've also had them email me 1.5 weeks later saying that my Domus Aurea ticket was invalid and canceled. This is the official site. Wtf? This only happened with the Colosseum official site. I haven't had any issues with the Vatican Museum official site
@RomewiseАй бұрын
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful. I just see people getting really upset and stressed about these tickets, when it's so easy to get standard entry tickets, and they are great tickets!
@RomewiseАй бұрын
I agree, the site is not able to handle all these requests. But the fact of the matter is they have a very limited number of these tickets and sky-high demand. The Vatican is a separate entity and they have different systems in place for their ticketing.
@acmejiaАй бұрын
@@dummygirl1201 I had exactly the same experience. I watched the site for days trying to "practice" buying underground tickets for when they opened for my target date. Those tickets were CONSISTENTLY sold out even before they open the time slot. It's like they are all sold out in advance to robots or third parties. I saw this several days in a row, refreshing with several browsers and my phone (If you refresh too much it kicks you out for an hour). Needless to say when the time came I found no availability. I was so stressed. So I followed Elyssa's advice and got the 24hr arena ticket. Done. Too much stress.

@@Romewise Hello! First of, I would like to thank you for doing this. It is a great help especially for me who will be visiting for the first time. If you don’t mind, which entrance ticket should I select when I an ready to buy? And also, do you recommend morning or afternoon to enter? We will be there on November 10th. Many thanks!

Thanks so much for this video! It will save me SO much time when trying to visit the Colosseum again. You’re absolutely the premier source of information for visiting Rome! Too bad you and your husband are not licensed tour guides. I bet people would relish a chance to take a tour with each of you. Your ebooks about Rome are great! Your fans might line up to buy autographed copies. Thx again. Cheers.

Awww thanks Ralph! So glad you like this particular advice - It pains me to see so many people getting really stressed about underground tickets. We thought about getting tour guide licenses but we decided to dedicate ourselves full time to creating these videos and managing our websites, which is more than a full time job for us both! But thanks as always for your vote of confidence. I'm also glad you enjoy my eBooks. More on the way, stay tuned!

My wife loves the Colosseum and we have done all the tours in all our visits to Rome over the tears. Night Time is great/Underground is great. But really like you said in your video you really get the best of everything with what you just laid out. Maybe not the ambiance of night time or the actuality of the arena floor, however your video shows what you can do without all the money/time/energy/stress involved. Great Video

Every time I watch one of your Colosseum videos I think back to my first visit to Rome in December 1996. Back then the ground floor was free and the outer arcade was wide open. I strolled through it at midnight one night, utterly magical. There were many changes post EU that helped give access to everyone but it really changed the vibe of the place.
@RomewiseАй бұрын
Wow that sounds so amazing! I was here in 1997, that's when I met Alessandro. But I don't remember visiting the Colosseum then. It must have been really super to see it the way ou describe. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just did the underground tour yesterday which really covered the entire colosseum. It was amazing and the guide was great.

That's fantastic! I'm not saying the Underground is not worth it. I am saying that in my opinion, it's not worth stressing and losing sleep over. I think for some people, it's turning their trip planning into something really stressful and my goal with this video was to assure folks that a standard entry ticket still offers so much. But I am glad for you that you got the tickets you wanted.

Great video, Elyssa, very enlightening, thanks so much!!!! I'm going in november, and started planning on March. After examining all kind of tickets available than, I chose to buy the Arena Full Experience tickets which at that time were being sold 30 days out, same as the Underground Full Experience and the Attico. But unfortunately, more recently Parco Colosseo decided to sell the Arena Full Experience only 7 days in advance, and I will be already traveling, and unable to spend hours trying to get my so wanted tickets to the Arena. I got very upset, and changed plans willing to buy the underground tickets 30 days out, altough it was not my first choice. But now, with this video, I think I'll buy the standard tickets, avoiding all the hassle to wake up at 3 am and start fighting for a ticket. I really think that in my case, who is not at all interested visiting the underground, the standard tickets will perfectly do the job, once I'll be unable to step in the Arena floor anyway, which was my original goal. Thanks so much to open my eyes pointing out this alternative, which I was not even considering!!!! Cheers 🙂🙂🙂

Thanks so much for letting me know you will be happy with a standard entry ticket! I am sure you will have a wonderful visit to the Colosseum. If you really want to see the arena floor (stand on it), you could try to book the Full Experience ticket while you're travelling - 7 days prior - and you will likely find a ticket available. Then, if you can't, you know you can get the standard ticket. Hope that helps!

the one stressor of the arena floor full experience is that it is only 7 days in advance- I was already on my holiday at that point. I reassured myself to check a few times and see how many tickets were still available only the next day or 2 of whichever day I checked.
@RomewiseАй бұрын
Yes, it's strange that the Full Experience Arena floor ticket is only available 7 days in advance. On the other hand, they do seem fairly available and not nearly as hard to get as the Underground or Attic. I hope you were able to get the ticket you wanted!

Elyssa, you should do a quick video explaining how to get from Termini to your hotel, because outside the Termini train station in Rome are dozens of very aggressive drivers who take advantage of tourists, overcharging them on long drives to their hotel. How to avoid this scam and find a proper taxi stand nearby.
@RomewiseАй бұрын
Have you seen this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3WZha2koKyAgNE I have a video coming in the near future about Termini station and how to navigate it and how to find the various modes of public transportation, but the above video should help explain about how to get a taxi in Rome and how to avoid getting scammed. Thanks for watching and thanks for your suggestions!
@erikdolnack846Ай бұрын
@@Romewise I love Rome. Been there twice. But those private drivers outside Termini are a huge drawback. You know how it is: you're flying from the United States, been on a plane all night, you're groggy, tired, completely disoriented in a new environment in a foreign country with foreign customs, and you're off your guard and vulnerable. Those private drivers take advantage of tourists in that state. You end up getting scammed and paying five times as much. My first trip to Rome I got scammed for fifty Euro, only to be infuriated later when I found out my hotel was off via Nationale, within several blocks walking distance from Termini. The local government of Rome should crack down on those independent private drivers and how they scam tourists. Rome is 100% awesome, but getting from Termini to your hotel kinda sucks and is a problem. They need to make that easier and cheaper, because when you first arrive anywhere all you want to do is check into your hotel, freshen up and take a huge sigh of relief that you arrived safely.

Hi! I would like to ask how long can I stay at the attic? I would like to see the rest of the colosseum before I get there, I would like to see the sunset from the attic. The booking time is only for the entrance of the colosseum or it's for the attic entrance? (sorry, my english isn't good, I hope you understood my question) thank you very much!
@RomewiseАй бұрын
When you book the attic, you may enter the Colosseum ONLY in time for that visit, not before. Then, you are allowed in the attic 30 minutes (although they are not super strict, but you can't stay hours). Then, when you come DOWN from the attic, you can stay inside the Colosseum as long as you want until closing, and explore the other areas.

Don’t know why you can change the name on the ticket when ticket is non refundable or changeable. If you change the rule that name on the ticket is not changeable problem is solved. You are cutting off the reseller and ticket will be available to public at is lower price any day and time. I visited Paris last year and had no problem purchasing my Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Versailles Palace tickets ticket w/o any problems it because once you add a name to the ticket you can’t modify it.
@RomewiseАй бұрын
They allow for a one-time change. I understand the ticketing process for the Colosseum can be frustrating, and that's one reason I made this video.
