We visited in early January ‘25, also. We arrived at the fountain at 6am. It was the most perfect most serene time and we loved our experience of drinking a coffee on the offered seating and watching day break, PURE MAGIC . We had previously visited on another visit to Rome, but that time in mid afternoon. Our early morning experience was far better. Would highly recommend rising early to head down there.

Elyssa, thanks for your prompt reply. You are amazing and cover everything needed to visit Rome .I have opted for a goid hotel on via del bufalo, rather than flavia mas it looksa nice area, with most sights and metro nearby. We are opting for November this year. rather than waiting until Nov.2026. Do you think the jubilee will be as busy with crowds Have found 2 weeks that month when there are no events, if that will make a difference Also my grandson wantsbto see the enormous Constantine statue ,and believe it will be removed after Jubilee, Thanks again for taking the time to reply to myself and many others
@Romewise12 күн бұрын
Glad you found accommodation in an area you like. We expect Rome to be busy because of the Jubilee, but it will also be busy even after the Jubilee. Late November can be fairly quiet while early November is usually still pretty busy. I'm not sure that the Constantine statue will be moved. But either way, I think it's a great idea to come this year. Watch my video coming out later today for my reason why 2025 is one of the best years to visit Rome!

Really useful as always! From what I could see, before 9am or after 9pm, the barriers were put up so no one was going to the basin level, but could only take pictures from further back. Is that how this is meant to work?
@Romewise7 күн бұрын
Hmm, actually, no, while I was there at 7 AM, you could easily walk down to the basin. I show this in the video. There are some barriers up on the main level but they are not closing off anything between 9 PM and 9 AM. They are just there for use later in the day when they start limiting visitors going to the basin, but before that, they don't serve any purpose.
@Adam-e9l6l7 күн бұрын
Oh interesting! I checked the live cam as well today and yesterday for the before 9am and 9pm and everyone was behind the barriers. Wonder if something has changed now?

@Romewise7 күн бұрын
@Adam-e9l6l Yes, I just checked now and can see that even at 5 AM, the barriers were up, preventing people from going to the basin. On Fridays (and Mondays), they clean the basin, so that may be the reason. But as I mentioned in the video, things could continue to evolve, especially as the crowds begin to arrive in the next month or so.
@Romewise7 күн бұрын
@@StacyStellar Oh that's interesting, and I'm sorry you won't get to go down to the basin. I'm not sure of the reason why, and I'm not sure if that will change. I will continue to monitor this situation, and update everyone once I have concrete news.

First of all, May is peak season. Second of all, hotels in Rome are expensive in general, but not really because of the Jubilee. It's because it's a popular place to visit and tourism has been on the increase here since long before the pandemic. I do not believe 2026 or beyond is going to be much less crowded or much less expensive than it is now. The genie is out of the bottle.

Thanks for the update Elyssa, how are the officials going to keep track of the 400 they are limiting to? my thoughts are maybe giving a ticket to people in batches of 400 then when they all go admit the next 400,. This thought of mine will probably not happen but we shall as always rely on your great advice.
@Romewise15 күн бұрын
Thanks as always, Peter. I am not sure how they are counting people. There is no turnstile currently, and I didn't see them really counting people. I think it's more of an "eyeballing" situation. They are keeping the basin area relatively uncrowded so that everyone who is down there can enjoy the space and get their photos without too much elbowing. Maybe at a later date, they will make things a bit more formal. For now, I sensed they just let people in a little at a time as people were leaving the basin area.

1:31 You mention the cleaning time for the fountain on Mondays and Fridays but the sign doesn't match with your comments. In fact, the sign is confusing as hell for a person from the USA because they put 12am, which is equivalent to midnight, and then they write in smaller print underneath that 2 - 9pm... So it technically doesn't say noon anywhere when referring to the cleaning schedule.
@Romewise17 күн бұрын
Yes, you are right the sign is confusing. They indeed say that on Mondays and Fridays, visits are from "12", showing in the English version "am" which is incorrect. In Italy, we use the 24-hour clock, so Italians would understand that 12 means noon whereas 24 means midnight. But the English part of that sign doesn't make sense. And then there is the fact that they wrote a different time below the text, i.e., from 2pm, not noon. Hopefully, they will fix this sign soon.

Two questions first one is that fountain in front of the pantheon going in January because it was in your video and second question as a solo female if you were by yourself, did you feel safe that early early in the morning to be by yourself if there was nobody around and what time was that?
@Romewise14 күн бұрын
The fountain in front of the fountain is just called the Fountain of the Pantheon. It's located in Piazza della Rotonda. I feel comfortable walking around the historic center as I did for this video, even at 6am. There are a lot of police around the center, and even if it's very uncrowded, it's not totally deserted. Perhaps as a common-sense rule of thumb, I would avoid going down completely dark and deserted alleys, not because I am afraid but out of an abundance of caution.

Will it still be possible to walk across Pza di Trevi unrestricted? Just cutting through so to speak without getting caught in a queue?

Being a woman, would you feel safe walking around those areas alone so early in the morning if you are a tourist?
@Romewise7 күн бұрын
Yes, I always feel safe walking around the city center early morning or late at night. There are a lot of police around but also, even if it's much less crowded than during the day, there is always someone around. But as I would in any big city, I avoid dark unlit streets at those hours.
@Jpppppppp1215 сағат бұрын
Been in Rome for a week, zero problems other than I get approached, asking to sign or buy whatever, they leave my wife alone. Policia and Carabinieri every where around the major monuments. North of Trevi is all luxe shopping and quite safe. Trastavere, I would not walk alone at dark.

Did I hear you right, they are now charging for the Pantheon? Even early morning like 6am visits? I hope they don’t charge for Trevi Fountain. I do like the idea of limiting 400 people at the base of the fountain in order to manage the experience. People around the world love Rome, but seem to forget their manners. Thank you for the update, Elyssa. 🌻
@Romewise15 күн бұрын
Yes, as of July 2023, there is a 5€ fee to enter the Pantheon. It's really easy and the wait times are usually not very ling. You can pay cash or credit card. I hope they won't charge for the Trevi Fountain, but if they do, it will just be to get access to the basin. The current situation is a test to see how limiting access can work. So far, it seems to be working well, and maybe they won't need to charge. We'll see what happens!
