Hi Elyssa. Brilliant, as usual. One surprising thing I found was the coffees at the 1st level of the cupola - magnifico! Thanks for the places to eat etc. My favourite tour of the colosseo was the night underground - intimate, informative, not hot. Apart from Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Maria in Aracoeli has become my favourite inside il centro storico.

We'll be there 4 full days (5 nights), so day 1 of your itinerary sounds good to start on the first full day. We'll probably take it easy and discover the neighbourhood on the afternoon we'll be arriving. It'll be a 15 minute walk from our Airbnb to the obelisk in St. Peter's Square, so easy peasy for day 2 of your itinerary, and we can go back to the Airbnb for lunch. Only thing, I have had two stent surgeries in 2019 and 2020, and my fractal ejection is at 37%, so I'm not sure climbing up the stairs to the dome is right for me... We may do the Capitoline Museums on our 4th full day in Rome... I'll have to talk it over with the missus when we plan our stuff.

It's very early to book for next August. You could book it if you like as long as you read the cancellation policy. Please remember nobody can book Vatican tickets more than 60 days in advance, unless the Vatican changes their rules for 2025. So anything you book right now is just a placeholder.

Hi Elessya, I’m planning a last-minute trip to Rome in the first week of January, and I have three full days to explore. I’ve been devouring your videos-thank you so much for the helpful content! I plan to follow your suggested itinerary. I have a question about climbing the dome at St. Peter’s Basilica. I’m a bit claustrophobic and want to know if the space is too confined. Also, I noticed that the Vatican tours including St. Peter’s are quite expensive ($150 per person). My plan is to take a Vatican tour and then walk to the Basilica and wait in line, even though I know the line can be long. Do you think this is a good idea, or should I pay the extra money for the shortcut? Thank you!
@Romewise
@Romewise Ай бұрын
Thank you so much. I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. Regarding your questions: You can see what it's like to climb the dome here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGmVppWkqsyqfqs As for taking a tour - I am a big believer in tours when they are good and add value. I think being able to take the shortcut into the basilica is worth it, but this is subjective. So it's really up to you to decide if this is something you want to spend money on. The alternative is indeed spending more time logistically getting between the two sites, and yes, standing in line.

We will be heading to visit Italy shortly and have a question: In minute 16:00 of this video you mentioned that we need to book the tours that have direct access to Saint Peter's Basilica. I tried your links and there are plenty different tours and I don't know which one has this access. Can you clarify it please?
@Romewise

Thank you so much for letting me know you find my videos helpful! Yes, I agree, taking a tour that allows you to use the shortcut between the Sistine Chapel and the basilica is a great idea. I show different tours because many companies offer this tour. You may want to select one based on the group size, time its offered, price etc. If you want me to tell you the one I'd probably recommend the most, it would be this one: fas.st/t/Q7bMWNTF I hope that helps! We’re visiting first week of October for 3 days. Thanks for this guide. If we are staying near Vatican City, do we need to use much public transport for this 3 day plan?
@Romewise
@Romewise 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, if you are staying near Vatican City, you will need to use public transportation for most of your visit except when you visit the Vatican. The metro red line A is the easiest to use and takes you to many points in Rome's center, but there are also buses, depending on where you are staying.

I sometimes hear of people's tours being canceled last minute, so is it safest to book directly with the official sites for my once in a lifetime trip? I am going during Jubliee and would hate to have a tour canceled, after I have spent all this time and money for this visit. Thanks so much for all your insight!!!
@Romewise
@Romewise 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I recommend booking through the official sites if you just want an entry ticket or basic tour. If you want a more complete tour, you will have to book through a third party. The chances of your tickets being cancelled depend on the kind of visit you are looking for. Standard entry to the Colosseum is easy to come by and those tickets / tours are unlikely to be cancelled even through a third party. If you are looking for the highly sought after underground or night tickets, there is a huge demand and limited supply, so it's impossible for everyone to be able to get these tickets, and therefore, yes, sometimes those booked through a third party can be cancelled because they simply cannot get the tickets.

Too many tourist attractions to see in Rome 🏛 🏟 ⛲️ ⛪️

As the Romans say, "A lifetime is not enough"! I live here, and I agree. I am always discovering new things. But for many people, 3 days is the time they have, so I hope this helps to maximize that time.

@@Romewise Quick question: Are there many tourists in Rome that saw the Olympic Games in Paris last week? 🤔

@@lilpenny1982 I have no idea - I assume there might be some but I don't have any stats about this.

I entered the Pantheon numerous times and never paid. The Vatican is closed on Mondays.On your day one I would have burned out already.

As of July 2023, there is a fee to enter the Pantheon. The Vatican Museums are open Monday - Saturday and closed Sundays except for the last Sunday of the month when they are open and free. Saint Peter's Basilica is open 365 days a year.

The itinerary is a suggestion. Everyone should go at the pace that's comfortable for them.

What about Trastevere? The Aventine Hill? Rome is an endless discovery :)

@Romewise Aventine Hill seems a bit far. It's after Circus Maximus from memory. When I was last in Rome, I walked in and around Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Colloseum (including Arch of Constantine) and Circus Maximus and I was done 🤣🤣🤣 Time to head back to the hotel to rest my feet 🛌 No time for Aventine Hill

Those areas I just mentioned will last a whole day. I spent the most time in Palestine Hill because it was so big and long. 🏰 The least amount of time I spent was in the Colloseum.🏟 Looking back, I wished I spent more time in the Roman Forum to really study the Arch of Titus and especially the Arch of Septimius Severus ⛩️⛩️

Well it does when you visit the Vatican Museums in the room of Constantine. But it's not often mentioned as a tourist attraction, you are right. It's a bit far from most sites, and it's actually not that interesting to look at IMO.

@@lilpenny1982 Yes, that's why it's the focus of a huge fresco inside the Room of Constantine in the Vatican Museums. When you take a tour of the Vatican Museums, the guides talk quite a bit about this fresco and the history behind it.

@Romewise I've been to the Vatican Museum and unfortunately I can't remember seeing this painting. I can only remember the wall of maps, Raphael's Room and Sistine Chapel.

@@lilpenny1982 The Room of Constantine is one of the Raphael Rooms. However, it was under a long restoration and has only recently been visitable. I hope you'll come back to Rome to see it! You can see it in this video where I feature it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJbLiHRvltdgb5Isi=Oax4wzib7Ijw0LkA
