I have followed this amazing railway now since it reopened after WW2 ( I am 83 ) I saw Laurel & Hardy , Tommy Handly from Itma and others . It is really great to see the Stunning Black Prince up and running again . But like others have mentioned having recently travelled to Dungeness felt that at times the track was a bit scary so I think that there needs to be a serious upgrade along the line !

I agree with your comment Eddie. I was just going to submit a comment comment myself on the condition of the line at certain points throughout this video where the tracks seem to be in disrepair. I don't know if it was just a case of poor maintenance, or if it is just due to the fact that this is a light rail system and subject to faster decline than full scale rails.

The nervous Nellie's in the US would have kittens if they saw those twisty-turvy rails, I just giggle. It's a little scary until you realize it's 15" gauge and and only going about 25 mph because the valve gear looks like it's going 100 mph. This is a gem...

Scale speeds, low angle, telephoto lens - all adds up, making it look far worse than the reality of the situation.

Love the rock and roll of the locos, it's always a heart in mouth moment to watch😨 but never noticeable on board!!! You certainly moved around a lot, I was almost out of breath. Triple header - magic stuff, plus all the coaching stock by the look of it!!! Thumbs up once again.

Glad you enjoyed the video, Bob! It's amazing how the camera makes the situation look far worse than the reality - won't help that there's an "RH&DR at speed" video in the works. The triple header was certainly a highlight!

A lot of this footage was shot through a telephoto lens, the foreshortening effect these lenses produce always magnify any undulations of a moving object. Just watch and note the time difference between seeing the whistle steam and hearing the whistle.

Good to see her back and in fine form. Interesting to see how much more Germanic in outline Black Prince has become since ariving on RH&DR especially when compared to her siblings at Bressingham, smaller German style smoke deflectors, high running plate and changes to the front end interestingly show some comparisons to No 9 Winston Chuchill and 10 Dr Syn.

It reminds me of a comment I made a short while ago with me raising concerns over the state of the track, It looks very unnerving to those not in the know and it still makes me cringe when I see how the ride is going. I honestly think that if a train was to go a little too fast on this line, I am almost sure it's going to tip over. But looking at the response by harold Wilkes below, I can understand just what it takes to keep these wonderful machines going.

Fantastic! What is the speed limit on this line? If like other heritage lines it’s 25 MPH then it must feel like 100 MPH in the small coaches so close to the ground. Excellent filming in great locations btw. Never been I must visit!
@TheSouthernerYTChannel3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Limit of 25mph, though it is lower on some sections with frequent level crossings. The kind words are greatly appreciated.

I have to (unless i myself am mistaken) correct you description. Fleißiges lieschen translates not to "little flower" but to "busy lizzy", which is obviously a much more fitting name for a loco
@TheSouthernerYTChannel3 жыл бұрын
Admittedly, the translation confused me when I ran it through Google Translate and got "Busy Lizzy", since I'd got "Little Flower" from the RH&DR Association website.

Great video thanks but looking at the state of the tracks ? A derailment awaiting to happen? Just slow down the speed a bit ? Locos looking as they could jump the tracks at anytime? Track needs upgrading for these speed's very soon 🔜. Otherwise a serious accident awayting to happen very soon ?loved the video 📷 though thanks 👍.
