Fantastic railway- went on it 40yrs ago and 4yrs ago- hopefully again a bit sooner. I thought my garden railway trackbed was rough! I'm surprised these locos don't derail more.

So glad Green Goddess is restored. In these straightened times I feared that was the end of her when I read about the collision. We have a family photograph somewhere of me standing on the footplate as a 7y old in 1946.It was in the yard, and as a member of a railway family I was amused to see a driving wheel being raised against the springs with a crow bar! One could wander anywhere in those days.

Wow, not been on the RH&DR since i was a kid back in the late 70's. Remember the locos well. Sad to see how tired the permanent way is looking, some re-ballasting and new track needed by the looks of it. Fantastic railway though, they do well to keep it going seeing that it's open all year. Amazing to see these locos still going strong after nearly a century of use.

Lovely . My Dad, whose funeral is on Monday, liked this train . We all went on a day many years ago for one of my sons birthday treats . Wonderful to see this pop up on my feed.

I traveled on this train in about 1946 or 7, Wonderful to see it again after all these years. Such memories. There was still lots of barbed wire about then and not many trees and bushes. My minder was a lady from a holiday camp, We had a carriage area to ourselves, Well done to all who worked to restore the loco and the train. The Green Goddess, the name stayed with me. 👍🏻

@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Is that what these guys are called? School trains? (I'm from the US, where we never had these lovely little guys)
@TheSouthernerYTChannel5 жыл бұрын
No. A railway like this is just referred to as a Narrow-Gauge Railway (there are a few in the US). This railway ran a 'School Service' until 2015, carrying students from Dungeness to New Romney.
@LNERfan5 жыл бұрын
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Oh, this counts as a narrow gauge railway? (I mean, it _is_ a gauge of rail that's more narrow than the standard, but I thought this kind had its own name). But that is some of the neatest stuff I've ever heard. I wish *I* could commute to school on one of these!

amazing footage. Am I Ok to say I worry as the tracks look really bumpy especially all the long shots taken in the video. it looks like a really bumpy ride
@TheSouthernerYTChannel5 жыл бұрын
It's worth bearing in mind that this railway is 1/3rd of full scale, running on 15" gauge track. Every bump, jolt, and dip that the camera picks up gets exaggerated compared to the size of the locomotives.

@@TheSouthernerYTChannel true, the tracks just didn't look straight to me, looks woobly. I haven't been to the railway since I was younger. The railway had a video made about their railway and my family got featured a bit when rode behind Hurricane. I would love to revisit. :D

The health and safety at work regulations book is about 2/5 mine regulations, 2/5 railway regulations and 1/5 everything else. Suffice to say if those tracks were dangerous, HSE would stop the RH&D running until they were fixed.

That track is looking terrible these days. It is seriously time to do something about it before there is an accident. Th locos and trains are useless if they have no track to run on.
