Yes! I was about to cringe when I first heard it in this song--but then I relaxed when I realized he was using it as an effect to create a mood. And it works pretty well! He uses a variety of voice effects in a lot of his songs (Losing It comes to mind), and they all work. (Edit: I saw that other commenters say it's not autotune but distortion; Ren never uses autotune. Hm. It's true that he doesn't really need it. In songs like Humble and How To Be Me his natural pitch is perfect.)

Bro, Ren doesn't use auto tune, he hits whatever note he aims for all by himself. What Ren is using is distortion or layering and at times echo effects, to enhance certain passages to give it more weight in the song..

Ren doesn't use "autotune" because autotune is not a real thing, what people refer to as autotune is nothing but one of hundreds of effects you can put on a microphone, in real time or in post. Even Ren's most raw, live recorded songs, like his "For Joe" performance, or "How To Be Me", have slight reverb or some compression applied to his vocals in post or real time. That is done, not to cover any short comings of the vocalist, but when that sound physically leaves his guitar or his lips, if they weren't using any mics or amps, the natural environment affects how you hear it 20ft away. Since you're not 20ft away, his voice and guitar have to make it's way through a lot of technology before it comes through your speakers at home, that is why a little reverb, echo or compression is used on even the most basic of songs. What people call autotune is a digital pitch deflector/amplifier, it was just used so often in the late 90s early 2000's to pitch correct rappers who wanted to sing, or rockers that wanted to sing without screaming (see Kid Rock - Only God Knows Why), that the name kinda stuck. Pitch control can also be used live with a very high degree of difficulty to make someone who can already sing well, hit crazy cool alien sounding high and low notes (see Bo Burnham - Can't Handle This 'live') That is what Ren did slightly in this song, near the end of the hook, it doesn't mean he can't hit that note like a champ, but sprinkling in some pitch amplification on those last couple words just gives a cool post production sound. That's why I enjoy it when used correctly, because then you get a nice contrast between the same song at a live show and a produced version driving in your car, neither better or worse, just different. ✌️💚

This is officially my favorite Ren song. It's the beat, it's the distortion, it's the juxtaposition between the bouncing beat and the darker lyrics, it's the lyrics themselves that speak directly to my soul (I relate to this song so much.) It hit me like a punch to the throat the first time I heard it. Ren's pen game is "sick," no pun intended. Great reaction and feels like Bri is getting more comfortable in front of the camera and it seems her personality compliments your personality.

With all due respect, you have no idea how many, what set up or the quality of the speakers in which they chose to listen to these songs, so you really have no idea the percentage, if any at all, of quality lose they are experiencing. I have a 5.2 4Atmos studio quality set up with a sound proofed basement, I guarantee I hear as much if not more than someone wearing a decent to good set of headphones. The reason reactors get flack for not wearing headphones is because they're usually not aware when you record without headphones and don't adjust input(recording) settings, your video will output the audio from the speakers you were listening to, which is when the listener at home then feels like there listening to phone speakers, or an old time radio. You always want the pc or hardware your recording from to get it's input(recording) audio directly from the source, not any speakers you are using to listen. These two obviously don't have that problem, because on our end, or at least my end, the videos they react to have great sound quality.

Couple things, first, no such thing as autotune, it's simply one of hundreds of effects that can be used live or in post, digital pitch deflection/amplification is what people often call autotune, when used with someone that can already sing well, it sounds great, probably why he liked it on this song. Second, remember when trying to figure the meaning behind the lyrics, a lot of these songs he's releasing right now are songs he sat on for a long time, he wrote some of them when he was still real sick and undiagnosed, and many of those years he was not only in a ton of physical pain and struggling with his mental health, but he honestly believed he'd never get diagnosed correctly or live past the age of 30. So what might look like suicidal thoughts, which he had some of those too before he lost Joe to suicide, are usually him just trying to come to grips with not being around as long as most people.

I've been watching Ren reactions for a while, mainly because his music rocks, but here's an idea, reactors should react to the video (as in, react for the first time watching) then end your videos with a reaction after watching it a couple of times and learning what the song means. Seeing what you think after fully comprehending the song and its intent would by far make me appreciate the effort more than what is currently the trend of reactions. I love watching peoples thoughts on the art as well as a "first time view". I'd subscribe to reactors way more if there was a bit more depth. Just my two cents, ten pence, do with it what you will. I find this interesting that you found Ren via his new music, which was actually written years ago and before he blew up. He said he wanted to record a hip-hop album for the fun of it and knew that some of the tracks on this album weren't as profound as his older tracks. And is just experimenting with beats, flows, wordplay and concepts. That said, they are still fire and there is still deep deep meaning behind them. His last 4 releases wouldnt be the tracks many RENegades would recommend to start off with. But jeez it shows the talent of even his experimental tracks to draw people in. I'd highly recommend digging deep into his catalogue. Chalk outlines and How to be me are not Hip Hop they are beautiful songs with another amazing artist Chinchilla. The live versions are the best. They show off his singing talent. For Joe shown of his piano skills. THE TALES OF jenny screech and Violet ( must be done in that order) show off his story telling and guitar skills. Then there's his band The Big Push All different, all show his multiple talents. He is a literal genius.

So, I have million mile/min thoughts to where I only sleep 1-3hr/night, if I'm lucky, & I sleepwalk the entire time. I've had 15 major surgeries, 9 cardiothoracic, & they have to strap me to alarms so I can't sleepwalk while inpatient. I finally had a dr that prescribed me a benzodiazepine called Restoril, & that was the 1st time in my adult life that I slept more than a cpl hrs @ a time. They come in really low doses, they 1st gave me 7.5mg, & I got 3 whole hrs, &, once they knew it didn't affect or react w/all my heart & lung issues, they slowly increased it. I now take 30mg/night & sleep 7-10hr/night & don't sleepwalk on it. I do eat a lot more too, but I need to bc I'm 5'11" & 100lb.
